Is Aimee really doing a book?So is Tairre B of My Ruin.I have heard her talk about it in interviews and when I met her recently after a show she told me all about it when I asked her.She said it was a coffee table kinda collage styled artbook with thousands of photos, poetry, lyrics, letters and personal stuff like journal pages. What is your book about Aimee? That is so totally cool that you are both doing books I can't wait to read each one.Are you and Tairre related or just kindred spirits? Please o please post on the board and tell us all about your book. kisses and hugs missi hellen

Gee thanks for responding Aimee. I really didn't expect you to. (Yeah I know that was about a zillion posts ago, but I haven't been to this board in a month!) So the basic understanding is emotion and feeling through music. This is so true that sound vibration can affect us on so many different levels (as my good friend Puke has so eloquently pointed out...btw puke: I can't wait for your book "My Views On Stuff". I'll be the first in line to get a copy!) Music and sound is definitely a powerful medium for affecting and altering consciousness. In reality, we are surrounded by sound vibration. What we perceive as being solid is really just millions of tiny atoms bouncing around. When something is solid the atoms are vibrating at a very low level and when something is more subtle and etheral, like vapor, gases, sound, etc., it is vibrating at a higher level. So everything in existence is actually just energy, vibrating at different levels. Even our thoughts and minds and intelligence are a certain type of energy. Hmmm...I could get really deep into this, but since I have a short attention span, I'll end there. So thank you once again Aimee for your response. I'll be looking forward to the new album..oh yeah, and that manifesto for the band that you offered! ;) Maybe you could write that little explanation about the purpose of your music and include it in your up-coming CD. That would be keen. Peace out.

Okay, here's my conspiracy...don't be influenced by it, it may not be true its just some silly thing i thought up that MAY VERY WELL BE TRUE! but prolly not... well here i go.... I have reason to beleive that Aimee and Gwen could be the same person...i mean they look simular (well when Aimee's not loading on the eyeliner) they both sing kinda high pitched and a lil bit whiney, yet make it sound good, they both have very unique ways of dressing and they both are really cool. And you would prollly never see them in the same photo...wut does that tell you?! hehe. Well it makes a lot of sense to me. and what is the motive for this double person thing??? well thats simple... see if you were one famous person.. youd make a lotta money.. but if you were TWO famous people.. youd make more money? seee.. it may very well be true.. think about it...

i hope nobody is getting upset based on termanology. we can't really define the word "poser" in order to fit everyone's interpretation of it. it's just one of those terms for a group of people thats asociated with music. like "groupie" everyone has a different definition of what that is. especially when actual "groupies" start giving their definitions.

Well, I think it's great that more people are getting into good bands, whatever age they are. It's better than them listening to rubbish like N'Sync or Christina Aguilblabla, at least they may grow up with some morals and hopefully basic intelligence, at least Korn and such bands sing about real life, and not about who or what they hope to screw on a daily basis. I can't stand it when people complain about "newbies" or whatever, if the band are worth it, then everyone should hear them.

I talked about this with a friend, and I guess this is the same. There are people who see music as a fashion Item, something to be associated with, and if they want to listen to n'sync, or the Backstreet boys, or even Korn, then whatever. Likewise, there are people like me, and I hope the majority of people on this board, who really FEEL music, for whom music is an integral part of life. I remember the first time I heard some songs, especially the first time I heard "Hang on Me", I was almost crying. It's so beautiful, it really speaks to me. I can't expect everyone to appreciate it in that way, but if you don't feel that strongly about a song, or a band, don't pretend you're a huge fan of them. I admit to not knowing much about some bands, but I try and find out what I can before I form an opinion. I'm sick of people demeaning the music I love because their friends said "It's Cool". I hope when theSTART tour over here, the audience isn't full of kids screaming obscenities at Aimee, which is what I've heard, but likewise, I hope the venue isn't empty. I guess we can't all be happy. As long as we all act like ourselves, that's all we can hope for. I'm drunk, in case you didn't guess.....

In the past 6 months,I can close my eyes to any music and just feel the heart and soul put into it.. charles: music should be about music - yet today that seems almost impossible to keep it to. ....last night i experienced something that hadn't happened to me in such a long time. i put on a cd and for that like 45 minutes i was completely lost. nothing else seemed to matter, i had no thoughts, no worries, nothing else existed to me. all i could feel was the music running thru me. i had an urge to dance...just be completely and utterly absorbed by what i was hearing. i missed that feeling, but i knew it would come back with time. and it did and it has to be the most refreshing thing ever. i don't know why i'm posting this but oh well. its going up. as for competition dean - it will always be there. competition brings challange and without challange where would so many be? it brings risk - risk to test yourself to beyond the limits and break the barriers. competition is good when it has good intentions - it's when it becomes selfish and greedy that competition destroys. -amanda

again..no one really needed to be on my side or anything of the sort...I wasnt really pointing to competition in music, more as in life, people compete for everything, whether it be music, food, popularity or whatever else you can think of......I find it however, real real interesting that one comment can make so many ripples.....Its kind of neat to know that, people sometimes can actually take you seriously...hmmmm...Goes to show that maybe were all wrong and opinions arent just opinions, seeing as to how my own and everyone elses has put such reactions on those on this message board....

Amanda.. I agree with you on all degrees. I have a tendency in wording things wrong and you said basically what I feel. People should like whatever music they want to, no matter what people may say. And when I was saying about the trendy is trendy... I don't like the term trendy to begin with. I also understand about the people who do just like things because its in.. but also in some of those cases they're afraid to be left out of the crowd so they follow it. Some even find that they do love the music and relate, but those who just try to please people.. I really do pitty them. I hope someday that people could get along and not bicker about who listens to what. As I said before.. "If you like the music, feel it.. If you don't, leave it alone".. Maybe some day it will be like that. I hope to be part of that revolution. We'll see.. Love & Respect. Late

charles: a lot of people would consider the term *poser* to mean - a person trying to be something they are not. i'm not here to judge or put down kids or even try to generalize because frankly i have met some awesome people who love the music i do, but only got into it the past year or 2. however, i'm going to state what i have seen happen over the last couple years. there are people out there who however have hopped on a bandwagon and are certainly trying to be things they aren't. they're not keeping it real. now...in the whole "nu metal" (i hate that term) scene that exploded awhile back, the term *poser* became popular and quick to label others with. it became the label of the kids who would run out shouting they loved a certain band after hearing one song on the radio and not owning the cds and used to make fun of that music the year before or whatever. maybe cuz i don't live in CA it's different here, but that is what happened here and when *poser* became the label of the majority of new fans to the scene. a single can be your favourite song. there's nothing wrong with that. but i think in the end maybe if you're going to claim you love this or that band or that they're your favourite group in the whole wide world...you should perhaps know more then their single. you don't need to know which member is married or who's fucking who, but at least pay more attention to the music then what you hear on the radio or see on the tv. otherwise it seems like you are trying to be something you're not. that is where defenses start to rise on the people who have been there longer or whatever the fuck you want to say. i think if maybe the kids who have been a part of a scene longer give some guidance to the new kids then maybe this *poser* term wouldn't be so popular. now moving on to the whole "trendy not to be trendy" - ok that shit is bullshit. it has happened but who gives a fuck whether you listen to something trendy or not. it's what you like and no one should be able to take you away from that. sure it's *kewl* to say "i hate korn, limp bizkit, slipknot, kittie, etc etc..." but at least have a more valid reason then just because they're *trendy*. and now - yeah some people heard about theSTART thru their friends while others stumbled upon them on their own - but isn't that what the whole PROMOTION side is about? getting the word out. isn't that what you do charles?? it all goes hand in hand. i'm trying to be nice in this post - it is the holiday season, but i'm finding it hard. i'm not trying to say i know it all or anything here, and it may come across like that but i'm just stating my damn opinion. and if you don't like it - i don't care. say whatever you will, at least be honest with yourself and everyone else. keep it real! not some sugar-coated piece of crap that so many people tend to spew these days. excuse the length of this. i'm just having my say and we're all entitled to that. -amanda

One more point. I just noticed this lately... It is now trendy to be not-trendy.. whoever was mentioning about limp and roach.. thats the truth of the matter. In other words, stop with the babble of who's trendy and whos not.. it just lets us see how insecure about yourself you are. Well thats my opinion anyways and I'm sure I won't hear the end of it either. Love & Respect, Late.
Charles M. <human_tecato@yahoo.com>

dean... someone has your back don't worry. Well, where should I begin... Let me think. First the people you call "posers" is yourself as well.. I'm sure you heard of theSTART from one of your friends, thought it was cool and started liking them.. so you just hopped on a bandwagon. People usually don't hear a band unless they become popular, look at korn.. When people started listening to them when "freak on a leash" came out they were labeled as posers, why is that? I think a poser is only someones definition to say, "I was listening to them first!".. People like to have their own territory for keeps sake.. Example: I just got into hip hop and just started listening to KRS-One & Mos Def and a bunch of people I didn't know of before.. My favorite song by KRS is "Step Into a World(raptures delight)", which happens to be his most famous song... does that mean I'm a poser? I think not. People like those songs the most cause they are good songs.. why do you think their played on the radio? It only makes scense. And stop with this, I hate teenie-boppers act.. its getting really anoying. If you like the music feel it, if you don't.. just leave it alone. Respect & Love. Late.

I had a very depressing conversation with a guy last week. It boiled down to the fact that he liked Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach, but didn't know anything by RATM or the Deftones or Metallica and so on... Likewise though, it seems as though it's now fashionable to dislike bands such as Slipknot and limp Bizkit because they're getting succesful. My own opinion on those bands is unaffected by other peoples opinions, but it irritates me, y'know? Apparently at the PSI gig this last week, there were teenage girls who spent the whole gig screaming "Oh Jon, you're so sexy! We love you jon!!!". Hmmm. Not exactly an in depth debate on the causes of poverty in the Western world now is it........ On a lighter note, Have you got any gigs planned for the summer guys? I'm considering taking a week out this summer to fly to the US, and if it could coincide with a gig, i'm sure I could make it along...... ;o)Oh, and somewhere to stay would be nice.....

i don't think it's really gone back to competition. not that i am using best of judgement in this deprived of sleep, sick state i'm in. i think a lot of us our going to be feeling like shit during the holidays. haha. wonderful. "poser" man...i dunno on what to say there. a lot of us are guilty for throwing that word out way too freely, and others of us are guilty of being called one. in some cases both have happened. i'm kinda sick of that word. i can't find words to make sense of what i'm thinking right now...i'll finish this in a more awake mind state. i'm off to go get lost in music again. isn't it such a wonderful feeling when you do that? just put on something you love and drown everything else out and nothing else exists for a period of time except that music...i love that...goodnite everyone. -amanda

i agree with puke. that's what happens a lot these days and i can admit that i get defensive when there are people who claim to be the biggest fan - yet know practically nothing about what they are talking about. it's just something we do i guess. kinda like how way back in the day people listened to things like mc hammer and kriss kross and now deny ever being a fan. well maybe not fully like that - but there's a relation there. (excuse my lack of explanation - i NEED sleep...but insomnia...ahhhh!) i mean - what if next year theSTART becomes huge...can a lot of people here say that they won't feel somewhat pissed off with "posers" running around claiming to love them?? it happens a lot and yes it can be annoying but at some point - we're all guilty of doing it. well...maybe not all of us...who knows...i'll stop rambling now. -amanda
hypnaughtika <hypnaughtika@yahoo.com>

dean, it's my understanding that most old school fans of a band or whatever are intimidated by "newbie" fans. a lot of times certain bands that were underground and became popular get the attention of "posers" who think that they know everything. you know, those people that say "when worlds collide" is their favorite pm5k song or "last resort" is their favorite papa roach song. or those people who think that they are soooo punk rock cause they have the blink 182 live album. i met these kids in the mall who thought that opiate was the new tool album. it's because of people like this that make people like me brag about how long we've been down with whoever or how many times we've seen whatever band before they got signed. not everybody is like that, but with the ever-growing population of "posers" invading music; more and more people are getting defensive when it comes to a band that they like being exposed to the brittney spears generation of consumers. i mean, you dont even have to be able to play a fucking instrument in order to have an opinion about a band and influence their individual careers. you can be the most talented songwriter known to man, but if enough people think that your band "sucks" then your whole potential listening audience is lost. just because some poser piece of shit who knows nothing about the talent it takes to write the music that they hear tells all their friends that they heard this one song by some band and they suck so now all those people will never buy that band's album unless they are somehow convinced that they dont suck. people dont realize how much their opinion matters sometimes. and, to top it all off, they cant even explain why they think that way. it's just their opinion and thats all that matters or something. sorry....ranting...

Why is it that everything is competition....Someone comes on to these types of things online. You know, message boards, chat rooms and stuff like that. Someone comes on and talks about something, whether it be a movie a band or something else. Then they are attacked, well not necessarily attacked, but put down because they didnt READ THE BOOK first or were the first to see the band! Or hear the band.. It seems to be that human nature IS competitive(just stating the obvious)...I just hate that...Why does it matter if you knew who this band was before someone, its more important to think that wow, someone that i have something in common with.....Something that someone can realte to....Not, SHIT IM COOLER THAN HIM cause i had the cd the day it came out... everyone is just so...so....so....insecure.

We struggle for freedom from oppression, yet we are only oppressed but the masses who are controlled by the few in power. These few use the strongest weapon of all against us - information. i liked the movie, but true, movies do ruin the books. Like Silence Of the Lambs, and Congo...I mean Silence Of the Lambs was good and all, but the book was awesome, it was just little things that upset me....But i didnt even know American Psycho was a book... Oh and dont see Pist, that Sex Pistols movie, its way boring...Well maybe it is because its more of a documentary than a movie.... me and my friends did christmas yesterday! I got some cool ass stuff. One of my friends got me Fight Club, i love that movie....

I know, movies are almost always worse than the books. That's why I didn't want to see American Psycho. I love the book, but they'll ruin it. I have seen one or two that are good, but I can't recall them right now. Oh, and 55 000 hits!!

I've read American Psycho but I haven't seen the movie yet. I'm always disappointed by films that are based on books I've read, they're always changed for the worse (for example, The Beach!).

Alex, We just finished recording Shakedown for the record a week ago. We're going into the studio next week to mix that and two other songs, as far as putting up files ,I doubt it because we're at crunch time right now and as soon as these songs are mixed and mastered, which is by the end of the year, the record should be coming out about a month or two after that, let's say late Feb.? So, sorry but we're not done yet, we suck.

When are you coming to the UK Miss Echo? Are you ever? I recently had the most incredible night of my life and it will never be forgotten. My Ruin played 2 sold out nights at the Garage in London(which I have not heard of any band doing in forever) and I was told that Snake River Conspiracy was no longer on the tour because someone had broke an arm or hand or something..anyway the rumor was that someone special was gonna be on the first nights show(we first thought Jack Off Jill but then remembered they broke up) so then we thought maybe The Start but we we wrong.I have to say that the show was super fantastic and all the members of Amen were there too. Miss B brought Sonny Mayo up on stage and they talked about the Strait Up tribute record and held hands and hugged as the crowd went ape shit. Miss B told everyone to remember what a "Tribute" album is supposed to be about and she was in tears as they did the song "Rockstar" and Sonny dived into the crowd. It was the most memorable show ever and even Roy Mayorga got up and played drums on the last song they did(the Black Flag cover of My War and she had Jessicka from Sugarcoma sing with her)Sugarcoma really are great and anyone who liked HWP should check them out because the singer is like a little Miss B with a bit of Echo and an English accent. After the show both nights we got to hang with the band at the party and it was so cool. I asked Miss B if she was ever gonna bring The Start over to play when they return in the new year but sadly she said no because the music was so different and would not really go together. Is that true? Are you all that different now? Well in my dream the best show would be My Ruin, The Start and Jack Off Jill but is guess it's just a dream so I better hope to see you on your own and soon too. Is the site gonna get some new photos put up soon?I agree with the Fred Durst comments below. He is what he is and should not have been allowed to ruin that record with his egocentered lyrics and shout outs to Limp Bizkit. Who ever does not see this is blind as hell. Kristy Kitten

hey now, we cant have an album with singers from "new metal" bands of the 90's and not include fred durst! how else would we get the kids to buy the record? and his track on the album just wouldn't be DURSTy enough for his fans unless he mentions the band he's in at least once in the duration of the song. besides, who really cares about the definition of a tribute album anyway? who really cares if it's apparant that fred is more concerned with glorifying himself then the memory of someone twice as talented as he is? sure, most people would think that it was wrong for him to upstage his supposed friend on the album dedicated to his memory, but those people aren't limp bizkit's loyal minions; ever-ready to send another dollar their way. FRED IS THA MAN! LIMP BIZKIT FOREVER!!
~puke~
limp vomit, usa -
My Note about fred durst being on the "Strait Up" album.. Well I thought it was such a disgrace what he did.. Everyone on that album dug in and poured their heart out and he just cussed every other word.. I had my sister listen to it and I explained what the cd was about and she was even saying that he was just not praising the memory of Lynn the way the other people were. He is very self centered and I understand why he was on the album, just not what he did on the album.. It just wasn't right.

I don't know even where to start about why I love music so much! When it's something I DO love then it gives me a shiver down my spine, like HWP and theStart do, and most recently Snake River Conspiracy (I LOVE that band!). Plus being in a band (which I'm not at the moment...!) and playing live is the best feeling! Being praised when you finish is just an added bonus! I'm a bit of a lyric freak too Hyp, but that's really so I can sing instead of hum in the shower! Heeee...

Sorry Hyp, I wasn't being nasty about Jon's Voice, and I agree, Korn have had a lot of things said about them that aren't deserved, It's just that when you compare the growl he had on the First L.P. and "This Town" to his boice on something like "Make Me Bad", there's a big difference. It's not that his voice was neccessarily better, that's a matter of personal preference, but It's different! Sorry if i sounded bitchy, I didn't mean to! :o)

for a lot of us - music is our life. for others - they don't care for it. it all depends on the person. music is my life. without i'd be insane - i need it to live. i think that when a song that you can totally relate to is when you are moved. i pay more attention to lyrics then the music. i am a lyric freak. and even though i write lyrics i don't feel confidence in them. i don't think they are good enough - but that is my opinion. others seem to like them and can often relate. anyway moving along - why does everyone rag on korn? last time i saw them jon could still growl. but that's not what they're all about. i still love them. their music had a huge impact on me - like almost 6 years ago when i purchased that copy of self titled album. i can still go back and listen to it and feel the same way i did the first time i heard it. although a lot of people don't like their new stuff i still hear the old korn in it. the things that i love i still hear. and even if i ever stop loving korn's music i'd still rather listen to that then limp bizkit. at least jon still has meaning and feeling in his lyrics. how much meaning is there in "keep rollin" or "see this platinum hair" or whatever the hell fred says. doesn't seem like much thought went into those at all. and who can forget the band plugs in the middle of songs or saying another band member's name cuz obviously a line filler was needed in the lyrics. just like mentioned a long time ago - look at his contribution on strait up. if you ask me he could have dug deeper. no offence to limp bizkit fans. i guess that's it, i'm just having a say on some things. pay no mind unless you want to. take care everyone and byebyez. -amanda

My two cents: Music is everything. How people I know can say they don't listen to music is beyond me. Surely Music is the single most powerful form of expression ever. I can listen to anything, but sometimes it just goes over you, and it's background stuff. However, when It does hit you, certain songs can bring emotion to the fore so much. I remember breakiong up with an ex girlfriend. I was distraught, and I sat there, crying, listening to "Born Too Soon" by therapy?, and it all made sense. Likewise, the first time I heard "Hang on Me", I was blown away. All I could say for a whole minute was "Whoa......". And how many songs can make you so energetic and out of control that you punch your nose ring out of your own face, like "Be Quiet and Drive" did to me a week ago? Genres are unimportant, the only thing that matters is that it hits you THERE. I can understand the Fiona Apple comment, that was exactly how I felt when I heard "On the Bound", All that matters is that you can tell the performer put their whole soul into the song. I write songs, and discard them after a couple of days because they annoy me. I just see the greatest cliches in them. But when I write something I like, I almost feel ashamed to play it. It's mine. My own feelings, which I find difficult to bear to other people. I can understand why some people write very obscure lyrics, as if it hides their feelings away. Yet when you connect with a song it's the greatest thing in the world, besides True Love. Sorry to go on. Oh, and it is Jon Davis in "This Town", just from back when he could still growl... Malcolm

Hi everyone. Aimee, you are the voice of a generation, you can put in your lyrics and voice emotions that most people can only feel. From the Demo of TheStart that I have heard, it is amazing. Not able to be categorized, but pure art in sonic form. I have a band in the DC area as well, it is called Revolved, we play a style of music that is utterly unique and more felt than heard. Our Website's URL is above, and if you feel so inclined, you may check it out. I can't wait for the album and live performances, next time you play out I will be there, even if it is California, I will fly out to see the future. Keep up the good work!
L.A. Baker <rychecrime@earthlink.net>

I see music as a culture... a culture that can make anyone unite together. Aimee put into words what I've been trying to put into words for the past year. Music is a part of everyones life, no matter how much people may deny... It helps us decide what decisions to make in life.. Thats why I myself have turned to music to tell what I feel needs to be said. I will start a group shorty that will be called 'Eyeless Premontions', we will be the beginning of a new music.. Imagine 'Sublime' with a twist of 'KORN' add a little undergound Hip-Hip such as 'Reflection Eternal' or 'Mos Def' and also add a touch of 'Bob Marley' and just a touch of 'Rancid' and you have us. We are a culture of our own and I hope to make some difference in the music culture and hopefully get people to stop wellowing in their pain and show how wonderful happyness truelly is.. i may be talking to much, but I'd like to describe what I'm talking about. People throughout life have always cried when their heart is broken.. when people die.. I know that is only human emotion, but if you think of it. Do you think the person who died wants you to be sad??? I think not, I think they would want you to plaster a grin across your face and you may do so in their memory.. don't look down on lifes troubles, look pass them.. I have found a way to do so and I am absolutely happy and I want people to feel the way I feel and that is why I have started this. People don't need others to decide their happyness, they should be dependent on their decisions. And now a very good point.. It has now become "trendy" to become untrendy.. tell you the truth.. everyone trys to be needed and they make themselves feel lonely, nothing ever seems to feel what they need. Don't try not to be trendy, so you can feel your original, just doing so makes you so... Be yourself and you will find that it makes a difference on your life and nevermind if people judge you ... being yourself is what makes you original. So think of what I said and I hope to see some of you when I finally get a chance to tour. Now, don't forget to dance.. Anyways, Respect & Love to everyone.. Late.

music is something that has been a major part of our lives since the beginning. you cannot expose yourself to any form of media and not be introduced to at least some variety of music. it is more than just the fabric that holds us all together, it is the smell of it and how it feels to the touch. aimee articulated a similar notion with her story of the piano. music from a singular instrument is created through vibration. even if a particular instrument reproduces sound digitally, the sound is amplified by a speaker which also opperates on the princible of vibration. so, not only do you hear the music, but you can feel it as well; in the most literal sense of the word. it has been proven that the vibrations caused by music mixed with it's syncopation can affect a person's emotions. simply put: sad music can make you sad, happy music can make you happy, etc. you can feel music but you cant see it. it is everywhere and everything. sounds kind of like the idea of god, doesn't it? for more insight into my views on stuff, feel free to purchase my book: My Views on Stuff. of course it hasn't been written yet, and i dont know if it ever will as long as i have message boards to post on and people to pretend that they are interested. and now i see a giant cane like something out of "night at the apollo theatre" coming to pull me away...

substance? message? The Start? Odd to be questioned about that here but, then again, I'm never surprised by anything I find here anymore. Would you like a personal belief system for each member, or would you like the beginnings of a manifesto outlining the group intent? Or is it that you just simply want to know what the lyrics to the songs are meant to imply? If you would like to specify, I would be happy to provide you with some insight into any of the above mentioned. Just to get started (no pun), sometimes a song is just that a song,MUSIC. A few nights ago, I was offered a spectacular opportunity to lay across a baby grand piano while a friend and fantastic pianist played MUSIC. He just played played and played. I was so moved, physically, I cried. I laughed out loud uncontrollably. Deep sorrow, melancholy, joy and just plain silliness, and then sorrow all over again, or whatever else he intended me to feel with every note he struck. I could FEEL every note he struck in every cell of my body. The breath was sucked out of me over and over, and the butterflies rose and fell in my stomach. I was reminded what music is, PURE EMOTION. I was instantly that five year old girl again, all by myself in giant headphones listening to my Mom's Beatles album for the ninth time that day, in my own special world that no one could destroy. Music and song are everywhere, in every known culture and have been since the beginnings of time. Music is used for celebration, for unification, for ritual, for recreation, for protest. All that it asks of you is to listen or if you choose, to FEEL, how deeply is up to you.

Amanda thats exactly what I was trying to say... Some bands just want you to get some kind of vibe from the music its self. If you go to shows and see a band that just feels your adrenaline to the max and you feel you need to move... then do so, I felt bad for Aimee the last show. She wanted us to dance but no one was moving.. People shouldn't be afraid, they should move when it seems fit.. and thats what I think theSTART is trying to get across.. You know, its theSTART to a new beginning of music, where people aren't afraid to just get up and dance. Respect & Love. Late.

Helloooo... I went to see Pitchshifter last night, they were really good from what I can remember! You can bet your bum I woke up with the nasiest hangover this morning, I've named it "La Rage". I'm not usually one for giving my hangovers a name, but this was so huge I thought it deserved one...!!!

God i'm exhausted.I got three hours sleep last night, and i've been falling asleep in my tutorials. AND this afternoon i've got to show a group of prospective students round the University, and I have NO idea what i'm gonna do. Ah well. Never mind. Jen, I leave uni next week for X-mas, then I have exams when I come back, so I guess anytime after the 20th of Jan is good. Mail me if you want to sort anythuing out, or if you want, wait till there's a gig you wanna see at Rock City , and you can crash here afterwards. Mmmm, Pitchshifter in February........

hello jeff! i'm sure he'll do a wonderful job otherwise they wouldn't have picked him. anyway - the_lugubrious_game - maybe the music is supposed to speak to us all differently. one person can pull this outta a song while another can pull that outta a song. maybe just maybe...they want you to dance! hehehe. "And DANCE FOR GODSAKE DANCE! ~Echo" you could sit here and discuss what the message, have the band answer the question, but why not just try to pull your own message out of it? that's just my input. i've been deprived of sleep too long. nite nite everyone. take care. -amanda

Whoa. I just got back from Soulfly. Marcello was cool, and the gig was pretty funky, but Glassjaw were AMAZING! They were some of the nicest, most enthusiastic people i've met, and they really put on a good show. Some of those tracks were so beautiful. I gotta get that album......unless anyone has it and wants to be a sweetie and mail me MP3's? :o)

hallo all. i thought that since i'd been watching the speakout for awhile, and thought that now would be a good time to say 'hi' and whatnot... so hi and whatnot. of course i'd also like to give homage to some of my favorite human beeings, aimee and the gang. so i sit here and toast my steaming bowl of ramen noodles to them. in the meantime, i thought i'd add some things about bands that influenced me to be who i am today. 1. soulfly, because max helped me figure out some things like what it means to have belief, faith, etc. with or w/out a god. 2. deftones, becuase chino just blew my world away the first time i heard them. 3. weezer, because i could relate to the sad love songs about always getting the shit kicked out of your heart. 4. nirvana, for helping me with the depression/suicide issue when i needed a 'helping hand' 5. placebo, for embracing things just because they feel right... that's all for now. i hope to see all you someday.

One more thing..actually two, I would first like to welcome Jeff to 'theSTART'... Secondly I want to comment on the meaning of 'theSTART' or the lyrics at least that is.. Maybe the lyrics may not touch some people on a personal level, but if you think about it.. Some people relate and as long as a few people may be touched in some way by the music, thats all that should matter. Respect & Love.Late.

hey everybody :::waves::: hey there jeff congrats :::thumbs up::: i have a HORRIBLE headache right now and my poor astigmatismic(i hope thats a real word)are kinda watery maybe its becuz we had a gas leak in my skool today but of course we didn't find that out til 40 minutes before skool was over anyway. well it seems that the Christmas season is on a roll and frankly im scared and annoyed i could go into a "how Christmas is all materialistic blah blah" speech but no.If you wanna hear that just go see "The Grinch" it had good imagery and a decent plot but the meaning is absolutely lost to me. "Christmas isn't about toys" yeah nice message but I'll remember that while I look at The Grinch waffle iron(yes it does exist) and all the other merchandise for it. Am i the only one that remembers that Christmas is a time when you chop down a tree, get into brawls with moody housewives over the last cool toy of the year..i guess it Pokemon this year, finds the brightest, tackiest and colorful decorations for your house or whatever so you can embarass the neighbors, invite the family over half of whom aren't on speaking terms but every year you love to see who's the first to throw a punch, cry,or have a nervous breakdown all the while you're standing back throwing back shots of that "special egg nogg",then after while everybody forgets what they were fighting for and leave utterly confused, you're alone completly blasted from that egg nog you stumble around singing "Silent Night" at the top of your lungs and off key, pass out under the Xmas tree, wake up next morning, battle that yuletide hangover, and then open the presents. Its the circle of life young Simba...Man,I love Christmas every year its so much fun! hehe now im done bye all for now ::::::::waves:::::::

where did i leave off? eight? okay then... #9 - deep purple "my woman from tokyo" & "perfect strangers" (a tie). every time i try to talk to someone under the age of 40 about deep purple i'm either met with ridicule or vacant stares, so i'm not even going to explain this one. #10 - the smashing pumpkins "siamese dream". now-a-days the name of this band conjurs up stories of heroin, cocaine, and courtney love's vagina. but i always think about some of the people that i've met as a result of mutual admiration for the pumpkins. okay, i'm done now...
~puke~
-
ahhh, so you've heard of me? goodness, that makes me feel special. well, my take on the whole thing is rather simple. as far as the song "gorgeous" goes i think that you cant judge the song by its words alone. it's assembled in a superior lyrical format compared to the status quo of the current music world (i.e. "who let the dogs out", etc.) but aimee's lyrical endowments are not being questioned, their substance is. it might appear to some as being lackluster subject matter, but it speaks of the meeting of 2 people. the full story of the two is not told, only a fragment of time. it could possibly be the most important meeting of that person's life, like when tyler durden meets...well...tyler durden in fight club. it may not seem all that profound on its own, but to the person singing it (or listening to it) it could mean A LOT. until there's a lyrics sheet on front of me i wont be able to comment on many other songs, but i will - if needed - do so in the future. and where might i know you from, loogie? just curious... ciao, dawg

Hey, thanks puke for the helpful insights. I liked your top 10 songs that changed your life. Unfortunately I don't have any of the written lyrics to any of the Start's songs nor of any HWP songs. From what I heard from the song Gorgeous, it seems she's singing about pouring honey on someone and making them sweet. Well, at least that's all I could decipher. Anyway, what do you think is The Start's message? By the way: are you the infamous Sir Puke-a-lot? Just curious. And thanks for the kewl nickname: "loogie". We're both named after things that can project out of the mouth and nose. Interesting...

Hi sorry it's taking forever,we just recorded two brand new songs,"SHAKEDOWN", and "HER SONG" and re-tracked guitars and bass for "HANG ON ME" and "GORGEOUS".The record will be remixed and remastered in the next two weeks and the first single will be out beginning of next year. The record will be out soon after that.It takes forever for all the business of switching record labels to be finalized and we are sorry it's taking so long, not to sound cocky but it's worth the wait.If yor waitng for a change of the guard... well the road to Icaria awaits. thanks for being patient.

#1 - nine inch nails "the downward spiral". i rented it from the library cause, at the time, the only nin album in my posession was the head like a hole single. now i dont know if any of you know the words to "the becoming" but it spoke to me in a way that i had never heard. it was my life being sung by a someone who never met me. #2 - tori amos "under the pink". this was the second tori album that i got but was the first one to move me to tears and can still do so to this very day. #3 - mr. bungle "disco volante". the musicianship on this album was better than just about everything else that i was listening to at the time, yet was completely different from any music that i had ever heard. #4 - the offspring "smash". this was the album i was listening to when i joined my first band. it made me want to be a rock star. #5 - depeche mode "black celebration". another album from the library. after i played it the first time i just couldn't get enough. #6 - incubus "s.c.i.e.n.c.e.". at the time i was into the deftones and korn and other similar bands, but i heard a tape of this album and it blew my mind. it's power mixed with versitility kicked korn's ass back to bakersfield as far as i was concerned. #7 - def lepard "pyromania". i was raised on 80's metal because my dad, at the time, was a homophobe. needless to say a lot of 80's pop music never entered my house unless it was the background score of a movie or something. "f-f-f-foolin" was my favorite song as a child. #8 - marilyn manson. my dad finally got over his homophobia and marilyn was the cure. the reason there's no album listed is cause i never bought a manson album. what actually changed my life was his book, which my father read before he bought it for me. since then he's never pre-judged my music tastes. i think i'm gonna stop here cause my fingers hurt... to be continued...

hmmmm...albums...Let me think..1)staind-dysfunction, i know i know, but this album just fuckin rocks, the lyrics mean alot to me and they convey alot of the things i feel, and i think thats what makes a good album,2) The Cure-disintegration/kiss me kiss me kiss me, the cure is the same way, and goddamn Robert Smith can rock the guitar!...3) Knapsack-this conversation is ending, i love knapsack, why did they break up!....4) Fugazi-13 songs, hell fuckin yes, good fuckin music straight outta maryland! One singer sounds like a reatard, and the other thinks hes sexy, can it get any better? 5)Boy Sets Fire-after the eulogy, i just got this album for my b-day, and its just absolutely awesome, they have no definite sound, and they are really good live 6) ZAO-where blood and fire bring rest and peace, christian hardcore with satan singing, YEAH! 7)HWP-e-lux, i always have to go back and listen to this album no matter if they are no longer a band and i saw them oh so long ago, its still awesome(aimee youre amazing) 8)Hooverphonis-the magnificent tree, really different stuff, saw em with BT and i had to buy the album, cant turn it off. 9)Tori Amos- its a tie between Little earth quakes and Boy For Pele, i mean winter and marianne are my favorite songs, but little earthquakes has Me and a gun, but Boys has Caught a light sneeza and talula, little has leather, SEE! I cant decide.....10) hmmmm......Nine Inch Nails-pretty hate machin, when trent was new and fresh, and didnt sound like fuckin skinny puppy.....Fuck downward spiral!

ok...maybe now i have narrowed mine to a top ten...in no particular order...1. Portrait of an American Family---yes i understand your objections, be there any, but i bought this album when i was 10, and for a kid that age, an album like that would definitely have an impact...2. Clutch---i first heard this album during an acid and mescaline binge my freshman year of high school, and, well, i dont know if any of you have ever given clutch a good listen, but their music serves as a hallucinagenic in itself. some friends and i drove around in a big cargo utility van and got lost on the deserted northern outskirts of austin with this album, and "spacegrass" in particular, on full volume. we somehow ended up on interstate 35 southbound for mexico 4 or 5 hours south of austin without any recollection of how we had turned around, and absolutely no memory of passing back through austin on our way down there. needless to say, an album like "clutch" on repeat for each of the 6 or 7 hours we spent that night lost in a bleak labrynth of county roads would indeed suffice an altered outlook on a certain experience in my life...3. HWP...i had never heard the estrogenical side of heartbreak, severance, etc...and the more abstract aspects of personal experience expressed in a way that i could adequately understand. that album was the emotional equivalent of a punch in the face. it followed close on the heels of 4. Snot...what can i say? i was running with a tagging crew, partying all night, mugging ravers, selling, buying, ingesting, imbibing every kind of drug i could eagerly get my hands on, and this album really served as one of those "life soundtracks" for that period of time. very, very punk. 5. Pitchshifter...speaking of punk, i was very into exploited, DK, subhumans, uk subs, us bombs, black flag, etc...etc...and had gracefully accepted that with very few exceptions (snot being one of them) punk was very, very dead, or at least it was never going to evolve. enter PSI...a band while, with all the samples and breakbeats, was un-d-niably p-u-n-k. it was the aesthetic, the attitude, its all there for them. 6. Aenima...this one goes without explanation, because everybody just GETS it with tool, even if they dont understand it, they GET it. 7. Mumbletypeg's "field of four"...this is a local austin band, and it's blasphemy that they arent signed yet. think of a bastard hybrid between janes addiction and the melvins; none of their songs follow verse-chorus-verse formula, and, well, theyre all completely nuts. COMPLETELY nuts. 8. 13th floor elevators. ive mentioned a lot of them these days...they put me back in 1968. very abstract acid headed shit. i recently found out a friend of mine, who has since moved to pennsylvania, was the lead singers daughter. craziness. 9. the doors. this is obvious. 10. a tie between the melvins and the jesus lizard. both bands that defy convention and are continuously putting shit out that gives my folks a headache and none of my other friends understand. gotta love those melvins and jesus lizards. my knuckles hurt. laters.

1. SUBLIME(RIP)-"40oz to freedom": Sublime has a sound that makes you just need to flow to the beat and the teachings they have throughout the lyrics are timeless... 2.Mos Def- "Black On Both Sides": Finally an album that shows you must have heart and soul throughout your music or it just isn't music, it has opened up the spiritualness inside me.. 3.Blackstar-"Mos Def & Talib Kweli are...": An album which shows that their should be love throughout everything, no matter what race you may be and that instead of saying there's a problem, you should act on setting things straight.. the work is not done and happyness is the greatest goal. 4.Snot(RIP)-"Get Some": I was an alcoholic and my friend turned me onto this record and it just stuck in my head.. finally I picked the album up and I heard a song "tecato" that helped me realize that that I wasn't only hurting myself, but others as well. It also helped me see that I need to wake up before I destroyed myself. 5.KRS-ONE- "I Got Next": I recently picked up this album and it shows me a culture in which I've been searching for.. All my life I have yet to find a culture or religion I am part of and this album shows that the culture of hip hop is spiritualness, happyness, and how culture is merely not a thing you are a part of.. you are the culture and if you disrespect it, you are not of that culture.......... These are the reasons that these artists or goups that is has changed my life. I may not know them, but the lyrics show there deepness. Respect & Love. Late.

damn thats a hard question to answer. the first album i ever owned was stone temple pilots' core...that was when i was around 8 or so, and ive wanted to BE scott weiland ever since...marilyn mansons' portrait album was and still is great...even if he's dry humping the david bowie cash cow nowadays...clutch's self titled album was a gem for me...hmmmmmm...ill prolly change my mind in a few, but for now, those will suffice...pink floyd, doors, and 13th floor elevators came along a little later, and with a way i am, several more are bound to come along in the future that will undoubtedly change the way i look at music. that's just...too tough a question to anwser with a once-and-for-all demeanor, so just...keep in mind mine is subject to change by the virtual minute.

hey everyone! anyone out there like linkin park?? i saw them last night! they were awesome live. really nice guys too, let us in to watch their soundcheck and even got us into the show!! damn those 19+ shows here in canada when you're not 19. i hate that venue. hopefully when theSTART make it here they won't be playing the horseshoe tavern in toronto. who hates shitty venues?? anywayz i'm tired. after a day full of fun, barely any sleep and then going to skool, still not being able to sleep and hearing everyone go crazy over your birthday when you don't really care - i need to crash. take care everyone. byebyez. -amanda

alright, alright...i know i'll probably be pellted with rotten tomatoes, pebbles, flax mouthwash bottles, comet cleanser cans and a wide variety of edible and non-edible foodstuffs, but I must ask the question: what is the substance in your music? What I mean say is: what is the message; what is the point? These days modern music is just so...commerical and empty. There's no substance. I hear you wanting us to spread and promote your music, but what exactly are we promoting? Hey, hey...settle down kids! I ain't here as no antagonist! It's just an innocent question, but I know I am taking risks by even putting this question out there. I guess I just like s u b s t a n c e. And hey, who wouldn't? Once a person told me, when I asked why most music has no message or substance, they told me: does it really have to? Well...I guess not in the highest sense...Art for arts sake...but is there really anything great with a canvas painted black? Is it really "original" after the 100th time? So is it any wonder or acheivement in just another band, playing the same four chords and doing and saying the same old thing and playing just for the hell of it? We are starved for substance. Everything in this world is so pale and shallow. From what I've seen, Ms. Echo, you are encouraging us to be free thinkers and to speak out on what we believe. This is definitely refreshing and much needed. You say the things we put out come back threefold...a Wiccan maxim, tried and true. We definitely need more love in this world.

kneecaps first? no no no, man. then you run the risk of not being able to finish them off. then we'd have to deal with a bunch of parapedgic mall creatures, still ruling the charts, but just in wheel chairs. the only thing we would have effectively eliminated would be those annoying synchronized dance sequences in all their videos and tv appearances. thats not enough for me; id prefer them headless.

lauren IS the fucking man. i was privelaged enough to have a beer with him "back stage" at the shack in anaheim after a famous show. it was so odd being able to look him in the eye and know that this man and his band mates started sixteen-o-five. if it wasn't for that, i dont know where i'd be now. has anyone else met lauren?

lauren boquette is the fucking man! i met him a limp bizkit show a couple of years ago and told him how a good friend of ours wasnt able to make it, seeing how she was in a coma after a horrid car accident. next thing i know, he comes strolling out from backstage with a silver adidas sneaker (dursts') autographed by every band member. lauren made our night. he won himself over about 50 loyal drown fans that night, too...

yeah, scott, but if the guy hadnt gone and offed himself, i for one, dont exactly think things would be this way. people take for granted how much impact one album has...think if there was no nevermind in this decade...what if nirvana was gone before in utero was released? etc...etc...oh well. it gives us all a task---either give the good music BACK to the people, and send all these godawful mall creatures back to the food court that spawned them, or we simply resort to plan b, which includes something along the lines of dragging members of all these wal mart candy groups out into the street and shooting them all in the face. both solutions are possible, and both are, in the end, tolerated (and most likely encouraged) by john q public at this point. IM MAD AS HELL AND IM NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!

Okay, This is just a suggestion, and I simply want to know what people think. I've just come from the Pitchshifter Message Board (Yeah, i've been unfaithful, I admit). A guy on there has created a yearbook on his site where all the regular posters can put photos of themselves. The idea is that when you start talking to people, you have some idea of what they look like. If you want an idea of what I mean, go to www.angelfire.com/band/phoenixology/fanyearbook.html How about doing one for this board? Threre's enough of us to make it worthwhile, Hyp, KT, Me, Linds, Starlashes, Luxy, Jen etcetcetc. I could probably host it on My site, and if people have got pics of themselves on the net already all I have to do is link to them. Whaddya Think? Let me know, I want to know i'm gonna get enough people first. Oh, and Hyp, What kinda pics work best on Homestead, JPEG, bmp, gif,? C yall soon. Malcolm

Very difficult. I tried to choose bands who I couldn't see again. I'd need at least 20 to be happy though. Oh, and kt, why should I be careful? Surely other people should be careful around me! Hmm...interesting thought: 1] Nirvana, 2] theStart, 3] Human Waste Project, 4] Hole (circa "Pretty on the Inside and "Live Through This"), 5] Alice in Chains, 6] The Doors, 7] White Zombie, 8] Rachel Stamp, 9] Sex Pistols (preferably before they got old!!!) and 10] One Minute Silence. yes yes yes...today is the day where all us yanks come together to celebrate that one magical, joyous occasion, long ago, where we put aside our differences with the native savages, and feasted with them, sharing new insights and perspectives, loves, losses, forever altering the wat we looked at eachother's world...before we subsequently mercilessly slaughtered them in droves of millions over the next three centuries, and now, three hundred some-odd years later, we still celebrate that day, while those same native savages dwell graciously on their tiny, federally subsidized pockets of the worst, most un-fertile land on the continent, where clinical depression and alcoholism run rampant like children, and their casinos are raking in what they can...kiddies, id like all you to join me in a singalong, the ones who know it, to celebrate what we, as americans, are thankful for: this country. i still listen incessantly to pablo honey, the bends, and ok computer. i got kid a and...well...i really dont know whether im insanely repulsed or if im in love with it...even though ive been listening to it a lot...i really dont know...i know now what people meant who heard it before me and the only word they could pin to it was "different". not a good "different", or a bad "different", just..."different". and they were all right.

Notmany posts the last few days. Is my comp screwed or have I missed something? Anyway, I just wanted to ask something, seeing as most of you are based in the US. What's been the general reaction to the new Radiohead LP? It's been a hot topic of discussion here, and I heard it was #1 in the US. Whad'y;all think of it? Malcolm

it seems frequent posters are made of two or three groups--- those that live IN L.A., see the shows, etc...and those that live overseas. and then me, stuck in some bastard nether-region of the innermost, bleakest depths of the armpit of america. if you guys tour, and DONT hit austin, and instead just hit dallas or houston, or even san antonio...well, i'll...i'll... i'll be really dissapointed, because thats about all i can manage.

Hey you were great last night and it was cool to see you get up with PMM. How about a show with MY RUIN? Wow that would just be the ultimate fucking gig in LA! I would love to see our beautiful MISS ECHO on stage with MISS B for even a second. Can someone PLEASE OH PLEASE arrrange this? I am so into the STRAIT UP record but why in hell is MISS B not on it does anyone here know? I saw HWP and SNOT play with MANHOLE back in the day and it's a shame that LYNN is no longer with us but how in the world could they put COREY OF SLIPKNOT on that record and not MISS B? She was such a good friend of LYNN and he always got up and sang with MANHOLE. Well I will stop my complaining and say again that your all rocked the house like always!!!!love love love and stars! caroline x

I realized that about ENEMYs' set as well.. vocals needed to be raised, but did however do an excellent show. As for TAPE, Aimee they are now my personal favorite band as well.. In other words I enjoyed their demo-nstration. PMM put on an excellent show.. I enjoyed the Aimee input as well... And must I forget theSTART, You couldn't have been better, good job and thanx for the excellent show. Also, hello to the people I met last night.. Plus one more thing, if anyone who went to the show last night would be willing to do a review for the UnofficialSTART website, email me with the review and I'll put it up. Anyways, Much Respect & Love.. Late.

first of all, that was the best show that i've ever seen at the troubadour. tape were terrific. the singer kinda reminded me of MCUD so that was pretty cool. i'd definitely see them again. enemy's set coulda been better but it seems that, at times, the sound man was too busy snorting angel dust and giving himself hand jobs to turn down the guitar or turn up the vocal. oh well. theSTART fucking owned that crowd and thats the way it should be. and, of course, i had to forget my goddamn tie... and i was soooo amazed when aimee made the GORE-geous refference. i took pictures as well. malcom, i saw scott smile TWICE but as soon as i got the camera to my eye it was gone. and what happened to the hwp one-song reunion that i specifically requested, hmmm? tempesta was there, i saw him. well, actually angela saw him and told me but i have a good enough imagination... anywho, i could ramble on forever but i wont. it was wonderful. *sigh* so i guess i'll just be at the next one, wherever it may be. neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor hail...

I just wanted to be the first to say...THESTART OWNED THE TROUBADOUR! God dammit! I got some funky fresh pictures that I will post ASAP! Aimee, you looked and sounded absolutely stunning. You performed "Glimmerman" especially great. Scott, you owned, but the drums seemed kinda low in the mix tonight :( (that's coming from another drummer) You still ruled, though. Jamie was so awesome, also. I was far away from ya, but you still rocked the house. And Jeff was super cool. He can jump really HIGH! Anyway, thank you all for an amazing night. I will put up those pics as soon as I get them back. -Alex

i just saw and met poe the other night at borders...she was such a sweetheart. has anyone read House of Leaves? turns out her brother wrote it. he was there too, got him to sign my copy. if anyone has read and enjoyed that fucked up book, get poe's new disc---it ties in with the book on many themes. thrilling. anywho, i just finished my winona ryder marathon and quite frankly it took a substantial amount of the edge off of my life for the time being---heathers, squaredance, welcome home roxy carmichael, all the way up too bootlegged copies of autumn in new york and lost souls. yeah you could say i have a crush...LOL so now i have to go renew my liscence...the great white shark has not been driven in days and it's begging me for a delinquent spin around the world. Man oh man, I come to the board to see what everyone is saying about the show on Saturday, and all I read is this fighting. It's stupid, to say the least. We are on the message board of one of the best bands around, and all everyone can talk about is whole stole who from this band. Damn, it is the pre-school version of a message board. At least Miss B has the decency to try to bring things to a closure, which is probably both appreciated and respected by all. Everyone should just drop all the bullshit and start over, talking about theSTART!!!!!! Let's talk about some cool shit that everyone is going to experience in... 3 days and about 2 hours. Come on, everyone should be getting EXCITED! See you all there. -Alex

I agree with brook, there needs to be a re-election becuase Bush winning if just a case of fraud, plus no one will be satisfied untill there is a re-election. How can we go on if some peoples votes arn't even counted? What's the point of voting if were not even listened to? Our vote is our voice and were being ignored! First thing we need is a re-election, 2nd- do away with the electorial colleges. Whats their point? to give smaller states more power? what for? votees are supposed to be individual, each persons decision, yet with these electorial colleges were not independent voters, were forced to vote with a group whos decision might not be the same as our own which means were not counted in the vote for president or all other national votes. BE COUNTED and PROTEST!!! Re-election 1st, do away with electorial colleges 2nd!

Honestly, you post one morning, come back in the Afternoon, and Tairrie B has already been and gone. Typical! :o) I have learnt not to believe most of what I read in the media, but it is still nice to see people say something in their own words. My already huge respect and admiration for both Tairrie and Aimee has gone through the roof. On other notes, I see your point Bronagh, but I presumed Charles was talking about the "Fans" who come on here once just to stir up controversy. Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick. Hyp, yeah, most people suck, but doesn't it just make you appreciate the nice guys? Kenickie, yep, i'm in Nottingham, but I can't make it to VAST at the mo, not enough money or Time to see a band when I only know two songs, as good as those two are. Oh, and one little thing. Some friends of mine are suggesting I got ripped off with mi piercing. I admit I don't know much. I paid £25 for the ring (Silver plated Surgical steel) and the piercing. I think that's about $17. Did I pay a good price? Or am I an idiot? It was in a perfectly clean place, not some backstreet guy with a hot safety pin....

...SO ANYWAY the leadsinger to the original psychadelic 60's acid band, the 13th floor elevators, lives here in austin, as i have recently found out. he plead insanity to a drug possession charge in 1968 (he was 20) and put in the state hospital for 4 years, then let out. he lives in a federally subsidized home in del valle, where, it is said, he keeps several hundred televisions and has them on and off in systematic shifts. in 1989 he was busted by the FBI for hoarding his neighbor's mail. while he was in fact hoarding his neighbor's mail, it was a big misunderstanding and he had actually been asked by said neighbors to collect and distribute their mail---until they moved away and he continued to collect, but not to distribute. the federal agents found every envelope, unopened, taped to his walls in fractal patterns throughout the interior of his house. he is a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic and does not currently take medication (!?). i recently came into contact with a friend of his, and have been invited to go out with him to dinner this coming saturday...what im wondering is...is this something im going to want to see?

Charles, I don't think it's right that you should assign yourself as spokesperson for the rest of the fans here. I myself have nothing to be sorry for, I was against these frankly nosey comments from the start (no pun intended), I think it's up to the fans to individually apologise should they deem it necessary. I also think that Aimee will succeed (well, she has already really!), not just because she has heart, but because she's very talented and is just fantastic at what she does! The last thing I want to do is start an argument with you, but your comments bothered me some, and so I felt the need to address them. Cheers, Bronagh.

To whom it may concern, I was asked by a couple kids to come to this site and read the message board. I really had no idea why but after reading it I have now the urge to leave my own personal message.I am very proud to see Aimee doing what she does best. She is one of the most talented women I have ever known and has a beautifully unique voice. We used to say that we were eachothers negatives but I really think we've always been eachothers positives. I am not a singer and Aimee is not a...well whatever I am? What we are is two women who have fought and continue to fight for the right to be heard in a very scary male dominated industry filled with lies and jealousy We have nothing to be jealous of or in competion with in regards to eachother because we are both doing music that is drastically different.I have seen The Start and they were great! Aimee is and will always be one hell of a frontwoman. It is exhausting and truly high school like to keep trying to pit us against one another. We both realize that we have many of the same fans who can appreciate us equally for who we are as artists. I do not hate Aimee nor wish her ill will. I think that people grow apart for many reasons and we have ours.I have been working on a book for the past year and 1/2 and Aimee will be a very big part of that book through pictures and tour journals and so on.I have put up photos on my site of us together as well. She was a very big part of my life and you cannot just erase your life. I am She is a brilliant lyricist who has brought tears to my eyes with her words and fire to my heart with her passion. I want her to know that I think of her always as well and there will always be a special place in my memory to cherish the fun we had together. We taught eachother a lot and we both deserve a break from this so please respect our message boards and stop the gossip. It is done.On the subject of Lynn Strait... we all love and miss him and I do not think it is fair to assume things without knowing the entire story. Aimee and Jaime have something very magical together and it's really nobodys buisness what or how it came about now is it?As for me, I am not a part of the "STRAIT UP" album or in the video for many reasons. I did what was best for me in the situation and I know that Lynn knows how I feel from where he is.Remember Lynn for the talented performer he was and spread his voice around the world and he will live FOREVER through his music! Love and Prayers TAIRRIE B

We have turned into the media.. Just imagine how aimee feels, we are supposed to be fans and not critisize a band on its own guestbook.. its just not right. Maybe one day people will grow up..instead of always trying to be the center of attention..... And Aimee, I know you work your ass off.. Hopefully now that'll be the end of it. I hate the way so many people try and stir up controversy, both in the Media and outside it, but hopefully that will be the end of it. Thanks for posting that Aimee, that should help. If anyone says anymore, I think we can just shout at them to check the Archives!!! On a slightly lighter note, I wen't home this weekend to pick up some stuff, bought a pile of CD's with me, and then found that The one I wanted most wasn't in the case! DAMMIT! *Hits head on wall* Now I just have to get my coursework done. Oh, and at the risk of sounding like I'm plugging other bands (I hate it when people do that), I just got the new Amen CD. It seriously rules. As is to be expected. Later.

Ok here it is... Tairrie and I have been friends since we met in 94'. Over the years we have drifted farther and farther apart as is often the case with busy people. There was not an event that caused a falling out. There was no falling out. We are two very different people with different lives. I think Tairrie is an amazing and strong woman and I do wish her, as always, the very best. In fact I love her. She is frequently in my thoughts. All speculation and nasty rumors can now officially be put to an end. Stop pitting us and our respective bands against each other. We are now and have always been individuals, separate and unique, with different ideals and goals. Our bands are completely distinctive and have always been, down the line, from Manhole and HWP to MYRUIN and THE START. The differences are reflected in our music, personalities, and elsewhere. We are also the same, two women trying to make our way in a overly male dominated industry. In that respect we will never be divided. It has always been quite a difficult struggle for both of us, especially when some people would prefer to have us fighting with each other, spreading nasty and vicious rumors of who said what to keep us occupied and driven away from our true focus, which is in fact music. I don't have any spare time or energy to lend to tearing anyone down. I prefer to spend that time and energy working positively, actively on my music and making myself a better person. So there you have it. Happy now?

I, for one, am not interested in what happened between Tairrie B and Aimee, either it was a huge tiff or simply a case of friends growing apart...either way it's nobody's business but Aimee's and Tairrie's.

My comment is about Tairre B and Aimee.I think it sucks and I wish that they were friends but I don't think it will ever happen.Aimee and Tairre are both cool but they are so different and as far as I can tell they don't have much in common anymore.Iwould however like to know what hapenned between them as i'm sure a lot of other fans would? Drain broke up?Damnit I loved that band too. Oh well. Videodrone are awful so thats no big loss.

Why wasn't AIMEE envolved?I loved Human Waste and have not heard the new record yet but I always read things about it...kinda Missing Persons meets Orgy? Kewl!!Is it true or just a terrible rumopr that AIMEE and TAIRRIE are no longer friends? Can you answer this question once and for all if you read this MISS ECHO? I know a lot of people have asked this on the My Ruin message board and no one knows the real answer. What happened between you guys? I don't mean to be nosey but whenever anyone asks MISS B she just says "I WISH HER LUCK" but doesn't really answer anyone. Was it something bad? Anyway I an so saddenned by the JOJ split up. hey I just heard your record(my friend had an advance copy) and it's really cool but I have to just say one thing that is sort of bothering me a whole lot. It sounds like Orgy has really"influenced" the direction of the record(sound, music and vocals) I am not trying to be an ass so please don't jump all over this comment.I was wondering if this was due to the production of Josh Abraham because I also heard he wrote some of the stuff with you guys? I have to say that I preferred HWP but I think that this could eventually really grow on me.another wierd question I was wondering was is are you guys planning on touring in the UK again?I am from Manchester and right now on vacation(thank goodness) in LA visiting a friend but I leave to New York next week and then back home again.I am a huge fan of the band My Ruin and planning on catching a few of the shows on the tour they are doing later this month(WHY IS THE START NOT COMING WITH THEM?) Is is true that Terrie B and Aimee do not get along anymore? That is sad if true but we would love to see both bands together.Have you heard of Snake River Conspiracy? My Ruin are taking them and I just bought the record.I think fans of The Start should check them out. Anyhoo gotta go(my friends computer ya know) so bye byez for now. lol missjade

the one song on that album that pissed me off was the fred durst track. how can you sing such unimaginative lyrics in tribute to a person who can run lyrical circles around you? it was a nice gesture, but we all know that fred only cares about "the nookie" and if anyone was out to capitalize on lynn's death it would be him. but thats just cause he's not bad ass enough to have a dominatrix fellate him on a giant toilet

its freezing cold here and im fearing for my very life. my blood is too thick for the cold, and im not coping well...i attribute this to my bastard genes from roots in snowy as fuck ohio combining with a little down home year-long summer oklahoma dna and creating a twisted aversion toward all temperature in general. the heat and absence thereof are only tolerable when im in the right mood...which is rare in itself. my drinks-on-the-job boss at the videostore told me today to "Buy yer books, go ta school, an' eat yer teachers", then he just walked out. can somebody PLEASE tell me what in the shit this means? so anyway i got the strait up disc and have been listening to it nonstop. anybody who would say something the nature of "they just did that to capitalize on lynns death, duh..." is uncultured swine. it was the first time i heard angels son, and i was affected. things like...lynn's recorded philosophies of addiction were amazing to hear...i am very happy with this album, and it was well worth the wait to me...props to ALL the folk that contributed somehow to be able to play us this music...well im off, tis time for the fool to get out...

Unless you were a member of snot or know Lynn.. Let the subject rest. Stop disrespecting the band, especially on their own website. Lynn wasn't that type of person.. I never knew him, but I know he didn't hold grudges. I'm a very spiritual person I can fill what a persons like. So stop putting Lynns' name in bad use. If you feel the need to keep bitching on the subject, email me.. I don't care. Just stop disrespecting Aimee, you don't even know her. They(theStart) show alot of respect to us by posting and talking with us and we should show respect back. I hope you aren't ignorant enough to keep bitching. Much Respect to Aimee & Lynn.. Sorry for peoples fixation on needing to heard. Late.

Ok I've seen enough, Snot was a band of five of the most stubborn, thick-headed, individuals ever to placed in one group together, but we were also five good friends that wanted the band to go in as many different directions. Sonny mayo was the first to leave in March of 97, for artistic and personal resons. Each of us in the band had various side projects going on, Sonny, tumor with the M.F. Pitbulls, myself with it hates humans AND HERO. After Ozzfest 97 I decieded after a two year uphill battle trying to get Snots' music out it just wasnt fun anymore. Our entire road crew had quit, our label was folding and I decieded, to be fair to the Snot guys I would leave so they could get a new member that was as passionate about the music of Snot as the remaining members were. When anyone leaves a band it's hard to deal with, you've spent so much time together and you do become closer friends than some. When Sonny left Snot we all felt like the band was missing a huge part and some people who are extremly passionate about things were upset. When I left the band 5 months later the same people were obviously upset.Anyone who has ever been dumped in a relationship should know the exact feeling. So there wasnt this big war or stealing people from bands, Sonny left Snot, we were sad, I left Snot, we were sad, but we move on. Did you ever think maybe I stole Aimee and Scott from HWP? Can't wait for feedback on that. P.S. we all love lynn, so leave it alone
jamie
-
Why is everyone on this kick that Aimee stole Jamie and Mike, They did what they wanted to do and you all like the music so why do you keep complaining about it. Just leave it alone. Lynn did not have a problem with it so why should you guys.
stuff
-
dear mr charles mouse oh i mean mounce um erh..mikey and tumer left
the band and broke it up when lynn died but jaime and the other mike left while lynn
was still with snot so please get your facts STRAIT before you speak out dude cuz we all know the
deal and hey love that new album it sounds like you stole some members of ORGY while you were at it.lynn was the
shit man.he was honest and true and a good friend to everyone.if aimee didn't do that shit then a whole hell of a lotta
people got the wrong idea and it came from the SNOT camp!

Stop being so ignorant... If Snot stayed together I would not like it. I think a band should find a new group if a player dies or leaves, exspecially the lead singer ... the fact is that the band went into acts such as AMEN, theSTART, and Soulfly...because they didn't want to go on with the main key missing. And if you look none of the sounds, really sound like SNOT. Letting us see their talent. Thats my words. Late.

I'm with Hyp, if people care enough about someone, whether they are close to their heart personally or emotionally, to go out and make a record in rememberance then we should repect that. It doesn't matter who's on th record and who isn't what matters is that the record has ben made and what it now stands for. The whole idea is beautiful, and every Snot fan should be out buying it. The bonus is that every fan of the other bands may go out and buy it aswell, bringing GOOD music in to the mainstream for a change. Nite! alexa

alot of good issues, and if he gets enough votes this term
then he will get more funding for the next time around.
if you really want to vote for what you believe in you
should, and shouldnt 'assimilate' into the lesser of two
evils. telling everyone to denounce what they believe in
and 'settle' for something else isnt exactly positive.
'seperate but equal' with the segregation laws and fight
for civil rights. if blacks 'settled' for this injustice
and didnt fight for what they believed in then where would
we be now? same with women's right to vote. its all about
standing up for what you believe in. of course i dont
think democracy is great or even tolerable in any respect,
will one vote really make a difference anyway? no. there
has never been an election in history that has been
decided by one single persons vote. we are all sanctioned
into 'states' not 'people' ..'groups' not 'individuals'...
its all a big trough of bullshit we're feeding off of and
i dont want any part of it.

Two very good keys to remember why to vote for GORE.. TEXAS HAS THE LONGIST LIST IN AMERICA OF PEOPLE ON DEATH ROW... IN THE MIDDLE EAST A WAR HAS BROKEN OUT AND ONE OF OUR SHIPS HAVE BEEN BOMBED.. IF BUSH BECOMES PRESIDEN, HIS CONSERVATIVE ACTS WILL BRING US TO WAR. HE GIVES AN IMPRESSION FROM HIS STATES RECORD THAT HE HAS A KEY SENCE FOR PAYBACK, WHICH WE DON'T NEED OUR COUNTRYS' IGNORANCE TO GET THE BEST OF THEM ONCE AGAIN. the "Strait Up" project I first heard about about a year and a half ago.. when no record company was interested, it was strait from the fuckin' heart. It however did become a bandwagon when immortal got interested, but I never met LYNN and he touched my life with the song "tecato".. It is possible to write a tribute about a person you've never known. Thats like saying the president doesn't effect your life, cause you never met him.
