*don't think there won't be more touring.. you know aimee and jamie like to surprise you all. and to miss cindy.. don't doubt aimee's love for hwp. people grow up and expand their horizons. that's all.

sorry to kick the dead dog or something, but if you actually read the article that tairrie is quoting aimee from, you will notice she took those quotes completely out of context. i think the link to the article is on the other message board.

You know, I think people just need to get on with their regular lifes and whatever drama comes onto the boards about the band, leave it be. It's just bullshit that seems to come up when Tarrie wants a reaction from people and for fucks sake, she is getting it. Laugh at the damned drama. I've been getting drama from fans of a band I like, and I used to bitch and complain about it all I could. It made me feel damned insecure and pissed off. No use in complaining about it really, sure it may make you feel better to hear that the drama and bullshit you hear is fake. But I learned giving in to the stuff is far more worse, and emotionally draining than just ignoring it. So far this year as of April 2003, I've made a pact with myself, don't give in to other peoples stupid bullshit they throw at you about people you care about. It doesn't matter. People will always be there ready to make you squirm by saying something stupid and acting childish, and if you try and deal with the bullshit, it just makes you look bad in the end. Ignore all the crap, it will go away. Sure it's going to come back, but at least you know you didn't give them any sort of satisfaction. Don't give in to the people who want to pull you down right along with them. People who start rumours and drama like that are not worth anyones time and effort. And sure, it may seem that I am contradicting myself by posting this here as a remark to the whole tarrie b crap, but I just felt like saying this. Some people are fake, and arent worth the time of day. They'll make you question the people you care for. That is all they're after, so why give them any satisfacion?

I just read Tairrie B's journal thing, so you know, skip if you don't care.
I am a bit confused about Aimee's relationship with HWP. At times she seems, not embarressed, but... I don't know, like it was such a immature thing to be a part of maybe? But at the same time the link to wasteproject.com is on here.
I loved HWP and I love theStart. If it weren't for HWP, life wouldn't have went the way it did to give her/us theStart...
It just seems to me that Tairrie is very disappointed, but that happens when we have expectations or beliefs of our friends (or former friends) that end up being wrong. I know how that goes, but I don't know if I'd say it publically. But then if I saw things printed I felt were not factual, I might speak up too. *shrug*

the way i took it, yes, that's what it means... they are making a new record, which would mean that the LA show is probably the last of 2003, which sucks, but they have been touring a lot so. another record is good too, which totally doesn't suck and is pretty exciting. i'm just upset i didn't road trip it up to St. Louis last time...
Phil
-
so here's a question worth asking, thisisthestart.com says there's a show in los angeles on august 13th, a homecoming show which is touted as theSTART's last chance to dance before hard work begins... i'm assuming this means another record, yes? but does that mean no more east coast dates for a while, hence the possibility of a trip to dc becoming VERY necessary? i didn't like my life savings anyway... :)

I'm a new fan & have only seen the Start twice. I have a question about song lyrics. I notice that many of the songs have references to religion, more specifically Christianity. Does anyone know if they are religious, atheist or what? It doesn't really make a difference to me it just helps to understand the lyric content & where they're coming from.

THe House of Blues show and PHX show rocked. Too bad they pushed everyone out right after the HOB show ended. I don't care for One Man Army. I really liked Paris, Texas, I think they are rally good. But I think theSTART did an awsome job. WORD

what the fuck is up. in this place. oh my god, so like, a WAR has happened since the last time i was here. it feels good to have a phone again. so that was a pretty good episode of Rowdy Rummie and the Pentagon Pack, wasn't it? holee shit. i wonder where they'll go next. watch as the salty old bastard chases those wonderdful weapons of mass distraction all over the world. meanwhile police officers in your cities have all been issued premium quality riot gear by the federal government in the last several months that feature no place for patch insignia or badge number display courtesy of the good ole pair o' patriot acts, that shiny new pair of jackboots our congress has handed our whitehouse. here was my war experience---a peak to end all peaks on the night baghdad fell. and yes. cubensis mushrooms and a crude attempt at concocting an ayahuasca-like stew were involved. some of you roll the eyeballs but hear me out. all that bears mentioning from those twele hours was the moment you all no doubt remember. the iraqi foreign minister was outside in the streets, waving his hands around the frame and irritatedly claiming that there were no americans in the city. this, which was airing live at two a.m. local time, was what you all saw, and was what went on to be one of the great absurd moments of the whole clusterfuck. but this, my friends, is not was i saw. i witnessed, and i mean i WATCHED with my own two eyes that man flail and wave his arms at the camera and SCREAM. in reality there was a split screen and from a different part of the city a statue was being filmed and broadcasted. the pundits talked over both these feeds. but again, i was watching something altogether different, and, might i say, all the more climactic. i watched smoke eddy from burning city buildings behind the leathery politician, while explosions rocked the horizon behind them. helicopters swarmed over him, casting shadows as he wailed about there being none of us in his city. i watched troops pour from nooks and crannies in the concrete around him. i watched tears fall from his eyes and grease his face in misery, humiliation, and defeat. MEANWHILE, back in realityville, all yall probably watched the statue get wasted live on tv, while the iraqi foreign minister was simultaneously bullshitting about our presence. all you guys saw was a pixellation in the left panel, the statue dissolved, the talking heads oohed and awwed. this, obviously, did not help my situation. i saw one image, the statue having been BEHIND the minister, with all the smoke and the hooting pundits only furthering the peak of the war as it appeared to me. and then, my friends, the channel got changed. right then, right there, immediately before we were about to see saddam himself come out of the rubble behind his tool and conjure the end of that whole silly war. the channel got changed, and i realized something. or maybe it wasn't so much something i realized as it was something i'd decided to finally acknowledge---the fucking aliens. yes, the fucking aliens. but that's all i can really put into words. so then it came to a head in the longer term...while everybodies' been barking about this puny excuse for a war, i've been chasing down other angles. if i was well enough off to not have casual worries, like anyone's usual daydream, i think i would devote my life entirely to chasing UFO's. i've always been fascinated by the topic but goddamn if in the last three months or so i haven't read volumes and compiled stacks of videotapes and photographs. i'm going crazy. to hell with last summer's project concerning catching a bigfoot.

and it was delicious. the huge ex-inmate waitress with bright red hair made for great additional atmosphere.
now what you guys really need is the honourable confounding watermelon to come on here and give you some news. take deep breaths and don't worry so freakin much, everything is fine. it's not "what happened" so much as what wasn't happening and everybody involved is on the same page and agrees with the new situation. even people who are no longer in the picture are cool with the recent events. bass player ~ todd, drummer ~ justin. they totally rock. they are not girls, like it makes a fucking difference, dude. they're very cool guys. this is all i'm gonna say because i don't want a reputation as the minister of information for theStart. there is no behind the music in the making because the music and the people who created it are doing just fine. all the anonymous posters can chill their shit out. the curiosity is understandable but stabbing your eyes out is unnecessary. if there was an undisclosed person playing guitar or singing you could stab as many eyes as you'd like.
in closing, this tour is a new chapter for theStart, one that you'd be crazy to miss, and the gang is super happy. you guys should be too.

Just to lighten the mood, I felt the need to share some old lyrics from an addictive 90s song.
She leeds a lonely life - she leeds a lonely life
When she woke up late in the morning light
and the day has just begun
she opened her eyes and thought
o' what a morning
it's not a day for work
it's a day for catching tan
just laying on the beach and having fun
she's going to get you
all that she wants is another baby

[click on the thumb nail to get a semi larger view, there will be a link under the pic saying *view original uploaded photo* or something similar. its the only way the picture will be done any justice.

I really hate exams.
And Puke, was that "See you soon?" A subtle hint that another UK tour is in the offing? Please, I could do with some good news today. On the plus side, I have tickets to see Radiohead in November. \m/

haha fieldys dreams. i tihnk i know of this beer pong puke. i was watching that fraternity life show and i believe they created some kind of beer pong table, it was...interesting.
punchy
-
yay stefanie! stay cool and have a great summer. k.i.t. gym class was swell. i must introduce the west coast to beer pong. is anybody in the know about this? it's something else, lemme tell you. malcolm, i've mostly been listening to cds purchased from bands who play the same shows as theStart. heiruspecs, as ms. jenny mentioned, are fucken cool. they're like the roots but their dj is actually one of the mc's vocal chords. he plays/sings other instruments too. then of course coheed and cambria, also this pianist amanda rogers who tours with onelinedrawing, jeph from the used burned me copies of both lovage and secret chiefs and they rule, stephanie introduced me to the cd of a band called shat, and we just got fieldy's dreams and it's a work of art.
and so we press onward. see you soon?.

hey phil i posted the setlist to today's show on the other board, but just so you know the show on the 13th was at the bloomfield ave cafe in montclair, nj not the hamilton st in boundbrook, and the show on the 16th was at the harmony grange in wilmington, delaware and not johnstown, pa. the setlist last night was much like the previous, BUT i found out i was wrong and gorgeous came before hi flyer. today's show was short but good, and i am going to miss that band like nobody's business. until we meet again..
stefanie
-
if it helps, the setlist for the may 6th lancaster show was 1234/los angelos/death via satellite/gorgeous/hi flyer/nemesis/shakedown! nothing unusual, but still thoroughly rock-ass.
brian
-
sent it on over. thanks punchy ;) thesetlists for those of you who don't venture over to the other speakout.

yeeah philly <3 email it to me! i saw the site, its fabulous <3

natalie, they have been sent out. If you don't get it by the 19th or 20th of this month the mail system here is seriously screwed. Let me know either way. AIM is blueamphetamine .

tonight's show in wilmington was the best middle school prom EVA!!! but seriously, any other band would've thrown a shit riot and given the hell up considering the sound problems they had in that place, but noooo - aimee hopped into the crowd and sang her heart out amongst everyone. very cool. <3 aaaanyway, i can't wait for philly tomorrow.

ah, there you are, mr. m. lemme know if everything is ok with the file. i think there's about a 5 second part where the video doesn't move and it's just the audio, but other than that, it's all good. thanks for that, stef. i'm gonna update those now and try to get a main page up so you guys can check it out so far...
phil
-
natalie you better shimmy pat benetar style. WE AAAARE YOUNG! phil, the setlists are almost the same every night but i'm still not totally sure i'm correct: 1234, los angelos, death via satellite, hi flyer/gorgeous/nemesis (i think that's the right order but any two of those might be in the wrong place; i'll doublecheck tonight), shakedown, breed. last night in baltimore they played glimmer man as an encore.
stefanie
-
ah phil, you are glorious. please god email it to me asap? trashboyx@yahoo.com <3 <3
miguel
-
stefanie, have you been writing down the setlists by any chance? i wanna put them up on my page... the last one i have is the CT show.
phil
-
the show they played at tribeca in nyc on wed was pretty awesome. i can't wait to shimmy on down to the philly show.
AIMEE, you better listen to those cds already!

anyone with a way for me to get a downloadable version of the gorgeous video would help me immensely in a project that will not only benefit myself but hopefully the band as well (STEFANIEPUNCHYNATALIE aaah it's coming out so damn good you guys are going to love it i think?!) but yes, um, any help with the gorgeous video would rule, thanks. jenny
chicago, sleepy -
it's a new design.. it says THE START and then underneath there's a picture of a satellite and it says "DEATH VIA SATELLITE" ... way cool 3/4 sleeved baseball shirt, white with black sleeves. the other new shirts are: the heart shirt in baby pink, and two logo shirts with the current logo slightly modified (looks more like theSTART than THE START if you can visualize that), one in black on red and one in silver on black. THEY RULE. the end.
stefanie
-
stefanie- what design was on the baseball shirt?
travis
oh -
punchy you're now the proud owner of a new baseball shirt and a black and silver logo shirt. the new merch rocks. i will be acquiring some of my own later today hopefully... last night was pretty cool, new york today; hopefully i manage to get home somehow.... more later.

"anonymous" poster - battle of the bands contests are ALWAYS bullshit. it's about who brings the most people, who is best friends with the judges, and who can do a dumb squiddly solo, not who the best band is.
kenickie
-
and for the record, the board isn't the speakout, or infact in anyway start-related. I post here purely cos it's got the least chance of being read by anyone related...
"
-
Say, hypothetically, you were in a band. Say this band took part in a local Battle of the bands, and despite playing a brilliant set, were not given a place in the final. Consider a second hypothetical band. This band are not only remarkably boring, but also came 2nd, thus getting a finals place.
If this hypothetical individual were to go to his local bands message board, posting under a psuedonym, and protesting about just how useless the second band are, would this be wrong?
I apologise if this makes no sense.
A regular poster who won't reveal his name for obvious reasons.

natalie i so want to do Philly. Lets talk. A train from my home to Philly would cost 60 freaking dollars, and im kinda poor, so I dont know about that. We have to figure something out. Stefanie (from MA) is considering driving to at least CT and doing something from there. This will be an exciting journey to say the least.
punchy

this weekend was amazing. full of lots of good music, exciting suprises (electra!!!), and fantastic company (i <3 stefanie + punchy). And to think i'm doing it all again this wednesday in NYC (and maybe even in philly).
I officially declare that theSTART and local h are the only bands allowed to do nirvana covers.
this band gets better every time you see them, and i'm glad that number now exceeds the number of fingers i have on both hands. It was great meeting Sara and the lovely Fiona, and the little crew from MA. Lets do this again sometime.

dear phil, i cannot remember what songs exactly they played everynight but if you IM me i will try to give you my best testimony as to what they played here is my guess. 9th: 1234, los angelos, dvs, hi-flyer, gorgeous, nemesis, shakedown, breed, electra 10th: 1234, los angelos, dvs, hi-flyer, glimmer man, gorgeous, nemesis, shakedown, breed 11th 1234, los angelos, dvs, hiflyer, gorgeous, nemesis, shakedown, breeed. I THINK. I can't rememebr if they even played hi-flyer all 3 nghts, but i think they did. I do know that the last 2 songs are right and the first 2 sogns are right. hehe

I'm curious as to what people on the speakout listen to other than theSTART, give me examples people, and let's try and restrict it to artists who don't use guitars.
If you're wondering what brought this on, i'm going to a Drum and Bass allnighter tonight that i've been looking forward to for months. Anyone on here live near miami and go to the Ram night at the WMC recently? And everyone should go and download "Elm Street" by Fresh )EIB( and "Twist 'em out" by Dillinja. Because I said so.
Also, has anyone bought the new Chris Morris DVD and felt incredibly ripped off despite the fact it was brilliant because it was only 10 mins long?
I apologise. I shouldn't post when i'm stoned.

I first learned of theStart when I lived in Seattle. I've been a fan and finally got a chance to see the band here in San Diego. It was inspiring. I thought it was a shame when Aimee said theStart were no longer on the record label and I was afraid the band would just quietly dissipate into that ether that dissipated bands float around in. Well HaaA-lle-luiah!!! Despite my never watching television, miraculously I just caught you on Smallville. Congrats on the publicity! I will definitely catch your next show in San Diego. Also, thank you for creating music that evokes something...anything. So many bands, these days, are void of that. ~low j

Okay, that's cool. Where'd you get the sampler at? I've been trying to track down theSTART's releases. (I think I just need "the 1234" ep and the sampler now) I'm sure it's probably hard to find now.

i have the sampler. im not sure if the gorgeous is the same as the album version ill have to listen to it again, but im with stefanie i think it might be diffrent because i remember when i bought the album gorgeous sounded diffrent. i think? ill get back to you.

Err, I remember thestart being thestart while Mike was still in the band...before Shakedown! was released.
Bronagh
-
That may be true, but in the credits in the Shakedown booklet, it says he played guitar on some songs. It doesn't specify which ones exactly, but he's still credited there so I don't think they took him off completely, but Jamie probably did redo Mike's main parts.

i can't wait to see you too! i'm leaving in 10 mins cause my interview with the band is at 5.
Chris

Mike was in Hero and his picture appeared on the Start sampler but he was never in the Start. I heard that both Jamie and Mike played guitar on Circles but Jamie redid all of Mikes tracks once he was out of the band and they changed the name to the Start, and the name of the record to Shakedown.

i seem to recall the album version of gorgeous being a little different from the version used before that.

I think you're right, actually. After I posted, I remember a while ago seeing a little promo sampler with "Gorgeous" and "Nemesis" on it for theSTART and Mike was still on it instead of Jeff. I guess those would be the two songs that Mike plays on Shakedown? I'd actually like to hear that promo to see if there's any difference in the songs.

Good call whoever put up the Michael Moore info. Stupid white men is a great book. for any brits who somehow feel superior, I can suggest "Hard Work" by Polly Toynbee to set you straight.
One other thing has come to mind. It appears Mike Smith has been confirmed as the new Limp Bizkit guitarist. Just wondering if Jamie or Echo still speak to him, and what their thoughts are. Personally I think he's easily good enough for the job, and if it pays the bills, good for him, but he's still being wasted.
Oh, and a local band called Phoenix Down have supported Cave in in britain. We've supported them, so in the whole heirarchy of things, that would make us equal to....hmm.... a Uk tour support for theSTART?

I've been in such a good mood lately. i just found out the Start is coming back to Austin, a short 1 hour drive from San Antonio, and being the fan that I am, I have alredy requested that day and the following day off. Supposedly the Start will then make they're return to San Antonio, a show which, if does happen, I will attend again. If all this is true, I will have seen them 4 times in 3 months. And yet, that's still not enough.

A Message From Michael Moore (sorry it's long heh):
Dear friends,
It appears that the Bush administration will have succeeded in colonizing Iraq sometime in the next few days. This is a blunder of such magnitude -- and we will pay for it for years to come. It was not worth the life of one single American kid in uniform, let alone the thousands of Iraqis who have died, and my condolences and prayers go out to all of them.
So, where are all those weapons of mass destruction that were the pretense for this war? Ha! There is so much to say about all this, but I will save it for later.
What I am most concerned about right now is that all of you -- the majority of Americans who did not support this war in the first place -- not go silent or be intimidated by what will be touted as some great military victory. Now, more than ever, the voices of peace and truth must be heard. I have received a lot of mail from people who are feeling a profound sense of despair and believe that their voices have been drowned out by the drums and bombs of false patriotism. Some are afraid of retaliation at work or at school or in their neighborhoods because they have been vocal proponents of peace. They have been told over and over that it is not "appropriate" to protest once the country is at war, and that your only duty now is to "support the troops."
Can I share with you what it's been like for me since I used my time on the Oscar stage two weeks ago to speak out against Bush and this war? I hope that, in reading what I'm about to tell you, you'll feel a bit more emboldened to make your voice heard in whatever way or forum that is open to you.
When "Bowling for Columbine" was announced as the Oscar winner for Best Documentary at the Academy Awards, the audience rose to its feet. It was a great moment, one that I will always cherish. They were standing and cheering for a film that says we Americans are a uniquely violent people, using our massive stash of guns to kill each other and to use them against many countries around the world. They were applauding a film that shows George W. Bush using fictitious fears to frighten the public into giving him whatever he wants. And they were honoring a film that states the following: The first Gulf War was an attempt to reinstall the dictator of Kuwait; Saddam Hussein was armed with weapons from the United States; and the American government is responsible for the deaths of a half-million children in Iraq over the past decade through its sanctions and bombing. That was the movie they were cheering, that was the movie they voted for, and so I decided that is what I should acknowledge in my speech.
And, thus, I said the following from the Oscar stage:
"On behalf of our producers Kathleen Glynn and Michael Donovan (from Canada), I would like to thank the Academy for this award. I have invited the other Documentary nominees on stage with me. They are here in solidarity because we like non-fiction. We like non-fiction because we live in fictitious times. We live in a time where fictitious election results give us a fictitious president. We are now fighting a war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fiction of duct tape or the fictitious 'Orange Alerts,' we are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you. And, whenever you've got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up."
Halfway through my remarks, some in the audience started to cheer. That immediately set off a group of people in the balcony who started to boo. Then those supporting my remarks started to shout down the booers. The L. A. Times reported that the director of the show started screaming at the orchestra "Music! Music!" in order to cut me off, so the band dutifully struck up a tune and my time was up. (For more on why I said what I said, you can read the op-ed I wrote for the L.A. Times, plus other reaction from around the country at my website)
The next day -- and in the two weeks since -- the right-wing pundits and radio shock jocks have been calling for my head. So, has all this ruckus hurt me? Have they succeeded in "silencing" me?
Well, take a look at my Oscar "backlash":
-- On the day after I criticized Bush and the war at the Academy Awards, attendance at "Bowling for Columbine" in theaters around the country went up 110% (source: Daily Variety/BoxOfficeMojo.com). The following weekend, the box office gross was up a whopping 73% (Variety). It is now the longest-running consecutive commercial release in America, 26 weeks in a row and still thriving. The number of theaters showing the film since the Oscars has INCREASED, and it has now bested the previous box office record for a documentary by nearly 300%.
-- Yesterday (April 6), "Stupid White Men" shot back to #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. This is my book's 50th week on the list, 8 of them at number one, and this marks its fourth return to the top position, something that virtually never happens.
-- In the week after the Oscars, my website was getting 10-20 million hits A DAY (one day we even got more hits than the White House!). The mail has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive (and the hate mail has been hilarious!).
-- In the two days following the Oscars, more people pre-ordered the video for "Bowling for Columbine" on Amazon.com than the video for the Oscar winner for Best Picture, "Chicago."
-- In the past week, I have obtained funding for my next documentary, and I have been offered a slot back on television to do an updated version of "TV Nation"/ "The Awful Truth."
I tell you all of this because I want to counteract a message that is told to us all the time -- that, if you take a chance to speak out politically, you will live to regret it. It will hurt you in some way, usually financially. You could lose your job. Others may not hire you. You will lose friends. And on and on and on.
Take the Dixie Chicks. I'm sure you've all heard by now that, because their lead singer mentioned how she was ashamed that Bush was from her home state of Texas, their record sales have "plummeted" and country stations are boycotting their music. The truth is that their sales are NOT down. This week, after all the attacks, their album is still at #1 on the Billboard country charts and, according to Entertainment Weekly, on the pop charts during all the brouhaha, they ROSE from #6 to #4. In the New York Times, Frank Rich reports that he tried to find a ticket to ANY of the Dixie Chicks' upcoming concerts but he couldn't because they were all sold out. (To read Rich's column from yesterday's Times, "Bowling for Kennebunkport," go here. He does a pretty good job of laying it all out and talks about my next film and the impact it could potentially have.) Their song, "Travelin' Soldier" (a beautiful anti-war ballad) was the most requested song on the internet last week. They have not been hurt at all -- but that is not what the media would have you believe. Why is that? Because there is nothing more important now than to keep the voices of dissent -- and those who would dare to ask a question -- SILENT. And what better way than to try and take a few well-known entertainers down with a pack of lies so that the average Joe or Jane gets the message loud and clear: "Wow, if they would do that to the Dixie Chicks or Michael Moore, what would they do to little ol' me?" In other words, shut the f--- up.
And that, my friends, is the real point of this film that I just got an Oscar for -- how those in charge use FEAR to manipulate the public into doing whatever they are told.
Well, the good news -- if there can be any good news this week -- is that not only have neither I nor others been silenced, we have been joined by millions of Americans who think the same way we do. Don't let the false patriots intimidate you by setting the agenda or the terms of the debate. Don't be defeated by polls that show 70% of the public in favor of the war. Remember that these Americans being polled are the same Americans whose kids (or neighbor's kids) have been sent over to Iraq. They are scared for the troops and they are being cowed into supporting a war they did not want -- and they want even less to see their friends, family, and neighbors come home dead. Everyone supports the troops returning home alive and all of us need to reach out and let their families know that.
Unfortunately, Bush and Co. are not through yet. This invasion and conquest will encourage them to do it again elsewhere. The real purpose of this war was to say to the rest of the world, "Don't Mess with Texas - If You Got What We Want, We're Coming to Get It!" This is not the time for the majority of us who believe in a peaceful America to be quiet. Make your voices heard. Despite what they have pulled off, it is still our country.
Yours,
Michael Moore

it's a day late but happy pagan new year!
al gore, you wanna jam? i'd email you but you didn't leave an addy. can timmy come too? he rocks. by the way tim, sorry for leaving without notice. it was a last minute sorta thing. i'll see you in a couple weeks. mia, i wasn't at the jerry's pizza or fullerton shows but i'm definitely in the fold. fiona just joined us again too so now the van is bursting with fun. and personal belongings. for the first time there's an equal number of sexes! eno tips the scales a bit with his tremendous wang. there's so much new merch it's not even funny. everybody has to buy lotsa stuff. as much as you can carry. fata is booking tons of dates for may, mostly east coast. promote the hell out of upcoming shows so new people can show up, fall in love with the band and help pay to keep them alive and touring! there's a problem with the website though so there might not be any new dates posted. there was a computer crash. the mailing list is gone i think so you should probaby sign up again.in regards to the "i pay for whatever, your mom talks shit about me, so and so gives me a total boner, i heard this about a band member, etc." i'll say this... when people who are just finding out about the band come to the site it would be good for there to be positive things about the music. if you wanna tell everybody what you were wearing when you met the band or how kick ass the last show was, that's great! but if you crave some kind of drama in your life leave the band out of it. hold your neighbor's cat for ransom or cheat on your lover or something. but if you spread negative rumors about the band or cause unneeded static you're a fucking asshole and don't deserve to hear their kick ass music ever again.

I got the new cd too. I love it. I like how they tried out new things that they haven't done before on previous records. Meg has such a sexy 1930's smoke lounge woman's voice. And the last song is so cute. I think my favorite so far is number 12. Long live the White Stripes.

i thought this was really weird, so i figure "why not share?"
so last night i had a really bizarre dream and theSTART had a cameo. their little part boils down to this: jamie, jeff and aimee joined the national guard or something (cos they were in uniforms) and there were kids that referred to aimee as Lt. (or Sgt i dont remember) Miller so i guess they got married.
that will be all :o)

This is interesting. I feel like we are at church and our neighbors are passing the bucket around curious as to how much we are go to put in. And if we put in more than someone else are we the better christian? Well, I don't think GOD really cares about that shit, and I don't think theStart does either. I love theStart, going to their shows has become part of who I am, and I get the impression that many fans feel the same way. It doesn't matter if your in Cali or New York or Arizona or where-ever, we are all connected to each other because we are connected to the band. So no more of this "Will the real merch girl please stand up, please stand up" Al Gore, I didn't vote for you because I was lazy, but you one Cali anyway so it's good right? To close, I'm not trying to pass negative energy on to others, Because I believe very much in Karma. So if you are reading this and you find it upsetting or offensive in anyway, I assure you I meant no harm. If you would like to respond to this anyways, Please Email me or IM me instead of posting. Much Luv Timothy

Yeah, everyone just needs to chill out. You are all being very "un-dude". I've only been lucky enough to meet the band twice, but from what I can tell, they wouldn't like ll this bickering over who deserves what. Hell, I got on the guest list for one of there shows (well, my friend did for both of us), but it wasn't becasue I did anything special. I think it was just because they are that nice, and they appreciate their fans that much. So, to show my appreciation for that, I donated what I could to the skull. So, yeah. That's all.
marionette
-
true. i was there and i know how much they put in, and it puts my donation to shame :( but anyways i agree with seymour. we're all fans. Not one fan deserves anything more than another no matter what they do (unless we save eno's life or something!!) so lets shut up and talk about something else. :)
punchy
-
Mia has gone to shows and been on guestlist before. I know this as a fact. But I also know that I have seen her put money into the donation cup, and buy a shirt or two from the band from time to time, as well as cd's. Not only did she fly out to the east coast and support theSTART out there, she and her friend she went with put in endless amounts of cash flow into the donation skull. Yes, they may have attended those shows at no cost due to them being on gueslist, but they paid the full ticket amount, and then some, to the band by putting it back into the donation skull. Do your part as a fan and not think that just because you help someone, you get something in return. Do it out of love and caring for someone, and don't come around saying "I deserve it, it was well deserved". That is not the reason to do things for a band. I know stefanie and Mia never once went around saying "we deserve it so fuck off and don't give me shit." They helped out with merch out there as much as they could. They ran errands for the band as well, but they did not expect anything out of it. And in the end, they were nothing but eager and willing to pay full price for their ticket. Don't just do things so you can say "I deserve it."

Just to clairfy - Michelle and Tim do do the merch most of the time. However, for the shows that they haven't been able to make it to or are out of the area for them (SD and Bakersfield and such) Six & I have been helping out recently. But yeah, I totally agree with below - all that matters is if you dig the music or not and in the end, the most important thing is that you support - doesn't matter how, just the fact that you do. Everyone shows their appreciation and support in different ways so *shrug* It all just ends up a never ending circle of nonsence to fight about something like that. Just rock out, let others be, and do what *you* can for the band. *nod* Rock on. -
A#2 <gorgeousxtrinity@aol.com>
-
I'm confused, I thought Tim and Michelle sold merch at all the Cali shows. I know I got all my merch from Michelle. Also, I don't think you can buy merch from any of the Venues, you have to buy directly from the band. And let us not lose track at what this all about "the Music" Not who is and isn't on the list. We all want to support the band how ever we can. It doesn't matter how many show you have been to, how far you traveled to see them, or how many times you have listened to the record. Because when you show up at a show, All that matters is how much you dig the music and the people who make it. NOW, I heard a Rumor that the merch girl Michelle thinks the Merch guy Tim is Hot. This is the most ridiculus thing I have ever heard, so I called Michelle and asked her if she knew she liked Tim. She had no clue, In fact she told me she would rather date one of the ugly goblins from LOTR. Anyways. Much love to all. If I can I would like to take this post and put it in what I like to call a locked box. PUKE E-mail Me about Jammin.

i have gone to every fucking show in california. dont give me shit because the band put me on their list. i know you gave omar a hard time about this. which you really shouldnt have. you had no right to say what you said to him. and trying to make him feel bad. first of all they didnt have to put me and the others on the list. and i am grateful they did put me on the list. but also it was well deserved anyways. i have been working their merch booth at many of their shows so they can be with their fans and not have to worry about the merch. so they can just relax. so aimee can have a fucking break because she is basically managing the band by herself, she has alot on her plate. and i buy stuff from them. so even if i do get put on the fucking list i am supporting them. 1) they did it for me. i didn't ask them. 2) i support them in many other ways... buying their merch directly from them. so its supporting them rather than the venue and the other bands. 3) it is DESERVED. i am a devoted fan. i drove all over fucking california to see them when i really couldn't even afford to. that's all i have to say.

i never said i was going to stop supporting the band. i enjoy watching them live, as well as listening to their music via cd. which is why when i saw them the last few times i paid the ticket price to get into the show. support your local rock band is my motto. if it werent i wouldnt be getting stickers and buttons made to send out to a slew of people on a street team that is run by money that i make by working. i mean, when mike left it didnt seem like that big of a thing for me, but when scott left i was like wow, someone left..... and it didnt hit me as hard. but jeff... its like, woah, dude, what just happened. only two original members now. brian is fantastic <3 and sarah is nice, but it just feels weird. i dont know. i know you probably didnt mean it the way it seems like i took it, but im just saying, change in the band means members will be missed as well as people who toured and worked with the band. but they still play the same great music we all enjoy live, and on cd, so they will still be supported. i havent really heard/read anyone say "i miss jeff" or anything, i hear alot of negative things from people, im just showing that i care about an ex member even though he decided to leave and live a life that means he isnt in the band anymore. <3 life goes on, we all support good music. i am in no way dissing brian or sarah. theyre talented muscians and im glad theyre in thestart now.

Did you know in Texas they are actual debates against making sodomy legal on the grounds that it will lead to the legalization of same sex marriages. How stupid and ignorant is that. Who cares if gays want to get married. You know, if it were illegal for black people to get married, there would be a huge uproar. Millions would be taking to the streets in protest to make it legal. It's a stupid law that needs to be repealed everywhere. Also, in the paper yesterday, somebody decided to devote an entire article to the fact that the Lt. Governor stood up the governor and other lawmakers for lunch. How stupid is that. Supposedly there's been a disagreement between to two sides on how best to increase revenue. Lawmakers want to increase taxes so that certain necessary programs won't get cut (after-school programs for at-risk children, medical benefits, etc.), while the governor wants to cut taxes (like his predecessor, our great President). I find it ridiculous that there is even a story about this. Also I found out today that there is a bil in the house that would allow students that aren't here legally, but were brought over at a very young age to qualify for legal residency and therefore be eligible for finacial aid for college if they've lived here for 5 years, graduated from high school, and met other qualifications. This is a very worthy cause. I once dated a girl who was from mexico (although it was legal), and A very close friend of mine for 9 years now would fall into this category. He is not a bad person, and thorugh no fault of his own, he is suffering these consequences. All he wants to do is get a good education so he can build a better life for himself and his mother, and his future kids, and he is being denied this while citizens fail to take advantage of our great situation. I highly urge everyone to support this cause. Also, the last hign I will EVER say about anything related to the Iraqi conflict is this. The reason I say the time to stop protesting is now is because MOST protesters don't get it. Take what happened in San Fransico for instance. The had this huge protest, and they had to know the media was there, and what do they do, they damn near riot. They start flipping over cars and breaking windows. And then they say that to stop protests is to infringe on their rights. What about the rights of the people who own those stores and cars. This just adds to the argument of people like Bill O'Rielly, and other morons who call protesters "anti-american." It's not unpatriotic to protest (hell, i support the right), but to do it like this does nothing but bring shame to the cause. You know, at the beginnig, we had an anti-war rally here, and the next day in the paper I saw a picture of a guy who claimed he wanted to protect our soilders. He wrote this on an American flag, and held it upside down. This was a slap in the face to all those he claimed to want to help. Also, some groups are encouraging riots, stating that it will force the government to use soilders to control the riots, thereby depleting the resources for the conflict, and refocusing attention on america, and not on Iraq. I'm all for redirecting the attention of the media and the U.S. citizens back on America, but that's a bullshit way to go about. If you're going to speak out, come with facts, and eloquent arguments. Son't just go out, shout your head off, spewing un-informed allgations and making an idiot of yourself. You hurt you cause more than help it. And now I am done.

Because of the war in Iraq, MTV Europe will not air videos and programs deemed "offensive to public feeling." A network memo written by Broadcast Standards Manager Mark Sunderland, recommended the temporary banning of videos that depict, "war, soldiers, war planes, bombs, missiles, riots and social unrest, executions [and] other obviously sensitive material." Among the videos on the banned list are OUTKAST's "B.O.B," which stands for "Bombs over Baghdad," SYSTEM OF A DOWN's "Boom!," which contains war-protest footage, and anything by the B-52's, because the band's name is also a type of bomber plane.
makes sense to me
-
hahaha, well go ahead and refuse, it's your right. are your blinders on tight enough? so you went from being against an immediate iraq war to supporting the troops once the war started and now you're a defeatist and don't even want to acknowledge what we're doing over there.
has anybody seen 12 angry men? i read the play but there's a b&w movie with henry or peter fonda about twelve sequestered jurors debating a murder case. the trial was for a minority boy from the projects who was accused of killing his father. the jurors go back and forth over all the evidence and change their verdicts from guilty to innocent and back again several times. even though they're all in the same room debating the same trial that they all saw and heard, everybody has a different idea of what the real facts are and how to find them. individual prejudices hindered a quick resolution. some would say "look at where the boy grew up, he's a victim" and the others would say "look at where the boy grew up, of course he's guilty" kinda like how some say "iraq has 40,000,000 citizens, how can you not accidentally bomb innocent people?" and the others say "iraq has 40,000,000 citizens and i hope it's down to just 40 when we're through with them."

Good point Puke. I’m surprised you mentioned Tom Robbins.
I’m from Texas and I can see how you are pissed off by all those thing mentioned but if we give up on one thing, like fighting against the war, we’re bound to end up giving into everything else that seems hopeless. The reason why Bush is continuing to excel is because slowly the few people around him who have power to change things fell outnumbered and hopeless.
Did anyone happen to watch the O’ Reilly Factor and how he was calling anti-war protestors “anti-Americans”? Funny how he sees is as “anti-war” and not “pro-peace”. These politicians are so pessimistic.

Anyone from Texas, please back me up on this one. YOu all don't understand, Bush has already won. He doesn't care, he won't listen, and just the fact that all the networks show has proven that he's gotten what he wants, full attention on Saddam, and none on his own people. But yet, I'm still paying too mush for gas, my younger brother is still going to a school that is severly under-funded (thanks to Bush's brilliant education plan), too many people are out of work, our economy still sucks, cars a wasting too much gas, a very promising research has had its hands severly tied, there is legislation out there that many believe to be a precursor to abolitiong abortion, and coporations run the wite house, and yet all anybody wants to talk about is the war. Well I refuse. He's already won with all this war talk, and you all need to see that.

Interesting point to consider. Look at the outrage over the iraqi's "Defying the geneva convention" by putting 5 POW's on tv. Then look at the US treatment of "Prisoners" in camp x-ray.
I heard a US ambassador on tv tonight trying to defend guantanamo bay. He said he saw no comparison between the two events. Does ANYONE actually buy this bullshit? ANYONE?
Metal Malcolm
-
before you "turn off your tv" take a look at the pictures from iraq. instead of seeing billowing black smoke rising up from burning buildings somewhere out in the desert imagine you were watching the same kind of destruction in st. louis or cleveland or miami. we can't hardly fathom something like that. 9/11 made us piss our pants it was so ugly, but how the fuck do you think the iraqis feel about what we're doing over there? gee, i wonder why there's prisoners of war already. is saddam on tv encouraging people to go to work and go shopping like bush did right after 9/11? nope, instead he's on iraqi tv (i saw this live last nite around 1 am) saying that they've tried to comply with what america and england wanted and then we turned it all around and made our evil intentions known. he's asking american troops if they've yet found all those weapons iraq supposedly has. he was telling his people that this time around it's much more serious because we're looking to occupy iraq instead of just to slap their wrist like in 1991. all that bullshit that the media has been saying about how saddam might be dead and their empire is crumbling and then he's on tv this morning talking about shit that happened during the day yesterday, obviously not recorded a month ago, and unifying his nation. he's using words like "jihad" that he's only started using in the last 12 years. how can anybody defend this fucking war? how can anybody say that they hope for the best and they want the troops home soon? do you fucking remember what bush said right after 9/11?! he said we're going after the people who were behind it and then we're going around to every country that harbors terrorists and kicking their ass. so, you see, if you oppose this war you're behind the troops because if they don't die in this war they'll die in yemen or iran or afghanistan or korea. this is by no means over and if we start supporting it now we gotta be behind it for years to come. or we could be geniuses and decide to wait until the next election and THEN speak up. do you think that if the bush administration gets voted out that the new department for homeland security and all this other shit that just came to be is going to vanish? "All I'm trying to say is that it's disrepectful to the troops to say that this war is unjust. Then what are they risking their lives for?" that's exactly what i wanna know. why risk your life for something that might not even work? we wanna implement our democracy over there but we don't know if they want it or if they can even live by it. has anybody read the koran? it's their laws. imagine that, instead of the us constitution, we used the holy bible as the law of our land. if a more powerful nation took over your country and told you to follow a bunch of rules they made up instead of following your religion how would you react? or howabout trying to implement our judicial system over there. "no, you can't cut out his tongue, you gotta hire a lawyer and take him to court." it's apples and oranges. let's get real. so what is this all about, why the fuck are we even over there? why are we saying to all those against the war "well isn't it nice to live in a country where you can speak out?" when our bill of rights is being trampled on by ass-croft? if anybody needs to smoke a joint and relax it's that guy. so there seems to be two sides now. bush's plan worked, now that we're actually doing it more people will be supportive. you're either for it or not, no "i'm against it but i hope it works," that's the most retarded thing i've ever heard. so who makes more sense, george bush and donald rumsfeld or tim robbins and michael moore?

Dragged myself away from my essay (undone and due tom - yeah!) to have a rant - Bush and Blair keep talking of the 5000 Iraqi children who die each week due to malnutrition - but before the sanctions, international medical journals takled of overeating and overweight Iraqi children being the problem. It was only after the sanctions that worry about malnutrition started!!!! Saddam Hussein is bad enough as it is, and he does things which are as crazy as Bush, but if they lie about his regime, it weakens the whole argument against him!!! But we must remember that anybody he kills is bad. Anybody we kill is of course good. Obviously. And yes I say we, cos this is all being done in our name!!! Now onto my bloody essay! Genocide anyone?

Human, America must be borrowing the slogans of the book 1984: War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is Strength.
Jes(sic)a <IVIanicXsubsidal@aol.com>
-
natalie i'm still trying to find out about hartford; i can't seem to get ahold of the venue...
as for the war... i just had a conversation with my mother about the prisoners of war. i don't think anybody should have to suffer like i'm sure the pows are, but when you sign up for the military you do run the risk of being killed or captured and i'm sure none of the soldiers from either side are oblivious to that fact. odds are good it won't happen to too many americans, but it will happen to some. as for protesting being futile... so our protests of the war didn't stop it from happening. that doesn't mean we sit back and watch our country terrorize (and i don't use that term loosely) the iraqi people. it doesn't mean we pretend america is 100% behind our president, because we're not. a few weeks ago a cnn poll showed that 60% of americans did not support this war. now they say 75% of the country does. unless 35% of the country were sitting on the fence until they were "shocked and awed" into changing their opinion, this is just bullshit. protesters aren't expecting the war to stop just because a few million people took to the streets with picket signs, but it's important to make it known that there are alternate opinions to that of the bush administration. america's reputation for greed and imperialism is being furthered by this war, and there's no reason for any of us to support it. the iraqi people have suffered under saddam hussein, but it's nothing compared to what we're going to do to them.

i dont understand how you guys can say that all humans are equal, yet you want to leave the iraqi people with a "ruler" who enjoys making his people suffer! i could find you some examples of some of these lovely things the iraqi people have to deal with if they think for themselves. if they enjoy their human rights. i donnt know what you think we could do otherwise? talk to saddam? yes because everyone knows he's a real rational man. on the other board some people wanted to start a campaign to "feed thine enemy". oh yah that would really work because everyone knows if we give food or money to a country like iraq because the people in the country whoo neeed it get it! YAH RIGHT. Their greedy fat government gets it. I personnally think those Iraqi people deserve their freedom. What about you?

I seem to love myself just fine. Like I said, there's a time for debate, and there's a time for action. Unfortunately, we didn't win the debate, and therefore the action is not one we favor. No matter. This situation isn't over. Bush has to run for re-election, and we can speak then. Also, everybody has to be prepared to die. we could all go at any second. Henry Rollins has some amazing statistics on how much we Americans kill ourselves. So we are more likely to die over here than in another country. Hell, we're probably more likely to die here then our soldiers are over there. All I'm trying to say is that it's disrepectful to the troops to say that this war is unjust. Then what are they risking their lives for? It's like saying "no" when your girlfriend says "Does this make me look fat?" Of course it does, but we never say it because it's disrespectful, and we're (guys) are not that stupid. We all know it's unjust, and they probably know it too, but they're already there, and they've been ordered to fight, so they do. Like I said, the time for debate is OVER. I hate Bush as much as the next guy, but leave the troops alone. In case you're wondering, I'm not a military person, but I have great respect for someone who would put their life on the line to protect millions of his fellow countrymen that he willnever see.

it's hard to stay positive or even see any bright side when you've got all these bullshit ideas floating around. so now that the war has begun let's support it, great idea. of course it doesn't hurt to wish your fellow man well and hope he doesn't "come home in a box" as country joe might say. but if you've joined the armed forces you gotta be prepared to die and if you decide to have a family you need to realize that you might leave a widow or a few orphans if you're killed in combat. there's been all this "don't let the terrorists win" talk, it's dangerous to criticize our leaders or system or military during times of conflict, but we're letting bush win. we make a big antiwar stink but as soon as he starts throwing the shit in the direction of the fan we think it's good to shut up and hope for the best. no wonder we have this guy as our president to begin with. well whatever, if we're gonna have that kinda attitude maybe some outside country needs to come over here and "liberate" us so we'll have a more effective system. we seem to be bored with what we have, our voices are only good enough to a certain point and then we don't use them. maybe we shouldn't have them at all. we'll just let other people tell us who to hate and where to work and just go along with it. teach it to our children and pass it down.

Americans or Iraqis we are all humans. Apart of the same imperfect race whether we like it or not. You can't just care about one group of humans and not the rest. That's a counter productive theory that fuels hate, greed, envy etc. and those emotions spark war. To single yourself out and pull away from what you are is like denying yourself. A form of self-loathing---if you will. And if you don't even love yourself, your human self, then who can you love? ...Just a thought.

If I were ever a photojpurnalist, and hopefully i will be, that's where I would want to be. Just like the military personnel, that's there job. As I've said before, I oppose this war too, but the time for debate is over. It's started, and now we must hope for the best of those involved. Forget about Bush. Sorry, I'm with puke on this one. There is NO WAY you can say an iraqi life is worth less than an american one. Both are equally sacred. What's pissing me off is the blatant hypocrisy in all these decisions. Surely you can't attack iraq claiming it's breaking UN treaties when attacking it would be breaking UN treaties as well? Surely you can't complain about iraq having missiles which go a few km further than they're supposed to, only to use weapons far far more destructive on said country? And surely you can't complain about how "Evil" Hussain is when it was the US government that put him in power?

I only care about Americans because, quite frankly, I'm an American. do you really think that citizens of other countries really give a shit about us. No, but they shouldn't. They don't see us every day. We're just people on t.v. to them. Let's be honest. Do you really care more about Iraqis than Americans. These people (americans) are your friends, your neighbors, your parents, your family, your teachers, and your police officers. You see, they are the people you care about most, and least, but they're there, EVERYDAY. That's why I say that I just hope this thing gets over with so they can come home. Besides, one of MY friends is over there, and I hope she can come back as quickly, and as safe as possible.

First things first, Bush has the power to authorize military action without the consent of congress because he is the commander in chief, or the highest ranking military officer if you prefer. however, only congress can declare war, so if they vote no on declaring war, this becomes just another conflict. Next up, the "war" has started, and it sucks. I'm totally against the war, and I can't stand Bush. Most of you are lucky. He's only been your president for 2 years. He's was my governor before he was my president, so me and those around me have had our lives screwed up by this man for quite a few years now. Anyway, the war. I'm against it, but none of that matters now. What matters is the lives of our troops. nobody should be mad at them because they are just following orders, and doing there jobs. What's important is that this war end quickly and decisively so these men and women can come back to their families. Remember the most important thing is not liberating Iraqis and protecting them, it's the lives and freedoms of Americans. It seems our president and all those who called for this war forgot who they were supposed to protect. Let's see the Iraqis elect Bush into office next year, because i sure as hell hope americans don't. He really doesn't care what happens here and to us, only what happens to a land rich with oil, and the people who inhabit it half a world away.

I got to see the Start on Monday, and it was amazing. Then my friend got us on the guest list for the show in Austin the next night, so we got in free. After seeing another awesome show, we said bye, and they invited us to the show tonight, but we don't have the money to drive up again, so I cannot attend. But they are just the best, and Aimmee is so sweet. It was the most fun I had in a while.

I LOVED the Start the last time they played in Dallas last Summer. I was really hoping they'd come back our way, but unfortunately they havent :(
They play Austin, Houston and every butt crack in Texas except Dallas recently. Boo-urns
I REALLY hope they can make it to Dallas again. SOON!
I can understand if it's because the crowd wasnt too big last time.
Hopefully I can get my radio show going here in Denton, and I can play the hell out of The Start and have people fall in love with the music!

i find it harder to get photos of drummers cos i always use my digicam or crappy disposable cameras, which aren't really even meant for concert photography and typically wind up sucking the big one. and brian seems to dislike me hunting him down and demanding photos pre or post-show. as for angie i DID hear from her about a month ago... she's been busy with her boyfriend and many many other things apparently. i do miss copacetic; that girl is amazing. i think she may have a new email? i will try to find out what that's all about.

lol. i was just making a light comment on something i found funny. oh well. long live the camera and roll of film...or in some cases the camera, computer, and whatever else the digital camera needs. oh btw, while i am here, there are like, 8 tribute cds that got mailed back to me because they could not find the addresses..... anyone who had ordered, please send me your address again, i have been trying to fix this for the past month and none of you are responding to my email. im trying to get the cds to you. i even checked the address in usps.com and they all seem fine which strikes me odd. poorpinkflower, and pagliacci and a couple others went through just fine so far no returns as of yet. im going to end up going crazy from this. maybe its just my post office being stupid. which does happen alot. but please, just to make sure that the address is correct so you can get your cd, please eMail me at blueamphetamine@hotmail.com with "tribute addy" in the subject. i'll throw in some stickers with each one that was delayed as well. i am really, really sorry about the whole ordeal.

hahahaha, it doesn't matter how many pictures of who were taken when and for what reason. it was just a comment. of course there's more pictures of aimee, she sings. aside from bands like dogstar (keanu reeves plays bass) normally people photograph, interview, and videotape the singer more than anybody. drummers are typiclly the opposite. and guitar techs... well, let's not go there.

hey puke, thats not true. i've taken almost as many jamie pictures(if not more than aimee pictures)trying to get that one shot of jamie mid air. what sucks is i finally got it, but you cant see his head. you can however see his feet off the ground. i guess that was the whole purpose for it anyway. oh well. and on another note, not to be a downer on the whole new bassist thing, but i miss jeff.

now there's somebody in the band who gets as many pictures taken of them as aimee. bravo, sarah.

i understand you have bills and i don't mean to jump down your throat. it's awesome that you've been a huge supporter and whatnot but i dunno, i just hate it when people sell autographs on ebay... seeing people at shows who don't even know half the band members' names telling them what a huge fan they are and then selling the item they got signed the next day, for three times the retail value cos it's fully signed... i've known bands who started specifically requesting the name of person for whom they were signing autographs, just so they could prevent its going on ebay, and that just sucks that any band would have to do that just to prevent having to be turned into a vehicle for someone else's profit. i should not have assumed you were one of those, and i apologise. i was in a particularly bad mood and i'm sorry i bit your head off.

first off. all i am trying to do is go support my favorite band. however i have way too many bills. im planning to go see them 5 times this month and 4 times in april. but with insurance that is over 300 bucks a month and a job that is cutting their hours back plus gas being at least 2 bucks a gallon now it makes it a lil hard. i love the start. i have tons of stuff signed by them. i have a start wars shirt signed by everyone with special messages. i got all my cds signed and my ticket stubs. i got a pic from jamie. granted i do not want to give any of that away and i won't. because yes it means alot to me. it took me a while to come up with the decision to sell that one shirt i have. i know the start doesnt tour everywhere.and maybe someone would want a cool shirt like that. all i am looking for is some money to pay for my other start shows. either way the money is all going back to the start. i paid the 10 bucks for the shirt. if i sell it for 20. hey i made ten bucks. and that pays for almost two shows. its not like im selling everything that they sign for me. this is one damn thing. and for those who don't know. i have gotten multiple things signed for people that live outside california(and the u.s.) and have shipped them to them. FOR FREE. i have bought the shakedown cd for people because they didn't have money but really enjoyed the start. i love this band. and im not trying to make a profit off them. i know the band. i know theyre hard working. i've seen them an awful lot. and have talked to them all. i ran all over pomona to get aimee some medicene before the show cuz she had just had a tooth pulled. you guys are entilted to think what you want. i just think you were a lil quick to attack. and i never had intentions to sell the shirt for 80 bucks. thats ridiculous. i was just hoping to make like 10 bucks so i can go see the start again. and i see nothing wrong with that. cuz the money is going back to them.
aimee even told me she would help me out with the shows in florida that im going to. but i want to do my best to try to help them out. because yes they do everything themselves and i respect them for that.
i'll just leave it at that.
jessixa
pasadena, ca -
Exactly, different meaning for different people. Just a matter of what you believe in, and whatever that is *shrug* that's you. Just don't go attacking someone until you understand their side, that's what it's all about. *shrug* I've said my 2 cents, I'm out.
yeap.
-
I'll try to get out to San Antonio but I don't get my car until around the 27th and It will be hard to convince my parents to drive out to see my favorite band. I'll try hard though cause I haven't seen them in almost a year or so. I understand this whole T shirt issue. it's not that it's ONE shirt it's the ethics and morals behind it. The point isn't the money, or that the profit is probably going back to the band, it's the fact that if that something you bought meant so much ( assuming it did in the first place since you purchased it) then why would you give it up for more cash unless you were to buy AGAIN the above mentioned t-shirt? Then all in all you made a profit, regardless of your intentions to use the profit, off of something that means a great deal to you (theSTART) without their consent. Kind of like you were the middle man in a strict manufacturer-consumer relationship. I dunno. It has different meaning for different people i suppose. But E-bay makes me feel dirty.
megziE
-
Dude...calm down. It's not like she's looking to become a millionaire off this one little shirt, she's just hoping to break even to get to another start show to support her friends. Besides, she gave her money to the band for the shirt, and she'll most likely just break even if it sells. And what will she do with that money? Buy a start ticket, which is what? Oh yeah, more money for the band. If she were doing this with every damn thing she got signed then yeah I'd have a problem with it. But dude, this is just one friggin' shirt, where she's just hoping to break even. Calm down.
yeah.
-
apparently sarah is playing bass on the out-of-california dates and apparently she fancies herself cuter than jeff. the grapevine tells me she plays a six-string? that's all i got. as for the ebayer... granted you already probably paid for the shirt and whatnot so you figure you got your dues and the money's just going back to the band, but when a band signs a shirt for someone they take it in good faith that the item means a lot to the person and that the item they're signing is not going to be sold and their autograph is just to heighten its sale value. that's just cheap, and even if you're using that money to go see the band another bunch of times, that's still just not cool. you picked the wrong band to do that for. try that on someone with record label support buddy.

OK, seeing as I obviously can't make the show, and my computer seems to be unable to play the video, can someone please explain who Sarah is?

-
why would you sell something if meant so much to you? getting a band to sign something, and then sell it on eBay in hopes that someone will pay the amount they did for the Human Waste Project shirt (which was sold for 70 some dollars) is unethical. If the band means so much to you, why try and make a buck off merchandise signed by the band? i'll admit, i too am strapped for cash, but i wouldnt go around selling things like that.

If you like spoken poetry by punk rockers, you should check out Atilla The Stock Broker. My band had the privalage to share the stage with him in NYC last 4 of july, and his material is highly entertaneing. He had a few peoms in peticular, mocking today's hip-hop artistes and how they brag about how big there penis is, how much money they have, and that treating wemon like shit is cool. He tore apart m&m and puff daddy the most and how they have millions of dollars and they are still pissed off. It was the most entertainment i've seen out a show in a while.

I apologise for the tone of that post. I was drunk and had spent a day arguing with fools at work. However, I do believe that every single argument for attacking iraq has no basis in logic or reason, and I would have said that I believe the people who espouse these arguments have not thought in any way about why they believe them, were I not too fucked up to type.
I've just cut all my hair off. Rock.

Two things. First, I was at the Tsunami Bomb show (a band you should check out if you haven't heard of them), and I found out the Start is coming on March 10. That's fucking great. Second, to the person that posted that article about the Bush administration, that was an excellent peice of information. It's one thing to say the war with Iraq is bullshit, and follow it up with something like that. And it's quite another thing to say if you support a war with Iraq, you're an idiot, and I can prove it. Don't say you can prove it, do it. Well done.

war = bad. anything that involves a lot of people dying can't be good. love = good. granted that isn't all it takes to solve problems. neither is arguing.
i love theSTART. i'm here for the music...

And please don't misunderstand me. If you support a war on Iraq, YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
And I can prove it.
