Hey ive seen the start two times in phoenix and they kicked ass. It was the best show i have ever seen. Also i talked to the band after both shoes and they were really nice, and answered all my questions. Jamie even let me play his keyboard a bit (it was on but oh well lol). Anyways im going to try and make it to Show on the 1st in AZ, but since its says TBA announced i have no idea where it is. Anyone know?

i didnt see a TBA band for 10/3 on the java jazz site, there's a spot on 10/4 with fed by ravens, who they played with last time...hmm maybe they can swap houston and spring..they are only an hour apart anyways. im just being paranoid! =)
ricki
tomball, tx -
Hey everyone, Ick, I'm mad, since the texas AND louisiana concert dates are still TBA. If they don't announce it soon, I won't be able to go... I hope they do, since I would kill ( not literally) to meet Aimee... Anyone have any idea about those shows??? Kittie
Kittie <PuNkPiXiE696@msn.com>
Greenwood, La USA -
I checked the JavaJazz webpage; they have a band listed as being TBA on 10/3. I guess that's a good sign =). Most likely, at least one of the houston dates will work out, though, so I wouldn't worry.
Kroze

erm...any word on where the 2 texas dates are going to be? this is kinda cutting it close..eep! hopefully they are still going to be able to play...my backyard is always empty...

I just saw theStart for first time last night at The Setlist in warrensburg Mo...(which by the wa is a kick ass place)...TheStart kicked ass....Thanks for the show...james

Pre-Order reSTART and help fund theSTART Europe tour -----

The time is drawing near. The tribute cd, reSTART, should be out sometime in late October. Here are the ways you can purchase the cd. Send a money order for the amount, and leave the name field blank. We will need to cash them in ourselves so that we can pay for shipping and then put all the donations together into one big check.

The price for the Tribute Album is $4 for shipping and then a donation of $6 at the least. From your total amount you send, everything, but $4 for shipping and handling, will go to theSTART.

So your total if you're only donating $6 will be $10 .

Remember, the money is going to fund theSTART in europe. This is what I want them to use it for anyway, knowing Aimee, she'll donate it to charity. But still, send in your orders via eMail to Mia@digaponymusic.com with "reSTART order" and I'll eMail you the address to send the money order to. The cd will not be sent until the money order has been recieved.

Please see http://www.digaponymusic.com

its a NEW old nirvana song. and like its really REALLLY good. hole did do a cover of the song in 95ish on their unplugged but i like the nirvana way diffrent, and like the lyrics are diffrent, and the was it is put together is diffrent. and wow, its fantastic.
punchy
-
well by new, i dont mean it was written yesterday. i should have said unheard. yeah hole covered it at unplugged and changed all the words. she even admits she fxxked up the song.
ANYWAY. so is theSTART playin NY on oct 11th?? or are they taking a day off? anyone?

My bestfriend Rae and I went to the Portland concert at the Meow Meow on the 19th...it was THE BEST EVER! As we were buying merch from Aimee, we asked if the band was planning on playing "Hang On Me" (one of our FAV Start songs). She didn't know at the time, but when they got up on stage, their second to last song was "Hang On ME"!!!! theSTART totally played it for us, we were SO stoked!! Even though we probably seemed like total dorks, asking for their autographs after the show, they were SUPER nice about it! I LOVE THE START!!!!!!!!!! :-) They made mine and Rae's day!

oh yes i rememeber you...i thought it was kinda crazy you wanted to take a picture of me and phil, but yeah. so they didn't come out? that sucks. i'll be taking some at the upcoming shows, and i guess i'll see you there!!

Yeah, I was at the Spring show; I was the one taking pictures. I know I said I'd post them, but none of the one's I took during the show came out that good.

College Station, TX -
yeah i remember Nick, i talked to him for a while at the Spring show. crazy kid. i hope aimee keeps good on her promise that my bro can play bass on a song.. he would pee his pants. were you at that show??
ricki
huntsville, tx -
I can't believe you didn't notice that when you first looked at the tour list, Ricki; that was the first thing I noticed. Anyways, my friend Nick's band Rae REALLY wants to open for theStart when they play Spring if at all possible. Jaime might remember Nick; he's the guitar nut from the Spring show where Jeff couldn't make it. No big deal if they can't, though; me and Nick are just stoked about seeing theStart again. Later, everybody.
Kroze <haxorfied@aol.com>
College Station, TX -
I'm excited to see theStart tonight (I haven't seen them live since July of last year), but I will be surprised if a lot of people are there. the club hasn't promoted the show at all, and Soulfly is also playing Omaha tonight. oh well, as long as the show is still ON, I'll be happy.

I strongly agree! Buy merch at the shows, people! I wanted to buy a hoodie, but I'm in Illinois and there's no shows scheduled near here :(, and I'm not sure when the online merch section is reopening. I want to support theSTART more! I have opened my first and second radio shows with theSTART, remember to listen on Tuesday nights, from 10-11 pm Central Time, on www.buedge.com! Now if I only had a hoodie! Click the URL to see a pic of me and Aimee at the Fireside in Chicago!
Kelle <kelry99@aol.com>
Chicago/Peoria, IL USA -
Just something I'm sure you all know, but should be stated by us fans to other fans, buy merch when you see them on this tour. They need the money to help with the europe tour, as well as the tour they're on right now. At the show in Fresno there was a donation cup for donations and I think if you get into a show on gueslist, put your 10$ you saved by getting in, into that donation cup. Just my two cents. Thats what James, Emily and I did. And we bought merch the night before even though we already have one of whatever we purchased. We need to support theSTART so that they can tour and get a wider fan base.
Mia <mia@digaponymusic.com>
fresno, ca -
that's it... *puts out the donation jar* help fund theSTART's return to canada.

my site on theSTART was just hacked not to long ago, actually today while i was at work. Why do people need to do shit like this? Do they think there is some point in going and taking down someones site and sticking a photo of a naked asian chick with the words "gorgeous-nemesis" plastered on her? If you're out there Mr/Ms.Who-ever-it-was-that-hacked-my-site, I dont see this as a terrible, awful thing. It all happens for a reason right? So whatever. I just felt like venting.

i thought puke said that... not punchy. and yeah, pop/punk bands get pretty annoying. new found glory, blink-182, and so on and so forth. They shouldnt even be considered "pop/punk" Blondie is more pop/punk than any of those bands I just mentioned. blah, anyway enough of my ranting and all of you people check out this site http://www.digaponymusic.com .... it has almost all the info on the bands who are working on theSTART tribute cd and what not.

I agree punchy. TheSTART is definately not a pop/punk band. They are just plain good music. Now a days people don't understand anything unless it fits into a catagory anyways. Toodles.

"iiiiiii'm stealin' babies so you better get this party started."

could somebody please please explain to me why promoters still continue to call thestart "pop/punk"? doesn't anybody listen to the albums before they book a show? it can be detrimental to the band, too. there are plenty of people who hate pop/punk that would totally love thestart and, without knowing exactly what the music sounds like, they might read that they're a "pop/punk" band and refuse to see them play. i know that's what i'd do. what's wrong with rock? they're a fucking rock band. nobody can say "rock" anymore unless it's "hard" or "classic". that's BULLSHIT!

oh man!! my girlfriend got the car and we went... it was so brilliant. but saturday was still the best START show ever. they mixed up the set to a little, they opened with "the 1234" and played "nemesis" 3rd. the stage was so short but it was big. it came up to my ankle, like a step. i was the one in front with the blue dodger hat and TheFaint shirt. it was aslo better that noone danced on stage during the last song...its better that way. it was great! Ellen next time ill take u. by then my car will be great and running, and u can always depend on me for a ride. -richard

As for phil, that sounds like an amazing idea. I apologise again for missing you calls last time, but you actually called while I was checking the answer machine, and I could hardly call you back. Unfortunately, we've moved house, and I don't yet know what the new number will be. As soon as I do the terror may commence.

oh, and Erika, did you get the parcel I sent you? mail me.

Thought for the day. With all the Iraq as warmongers i'm hearing in the news, here's a few questions for you. Which nation has the bigger stockpile of arms, has more of a record of involvement in battles, and is the only country to have used a nuclear bomb in attack, the US or Iraq? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I liked the show that was in San Antonio at Sunset Station. I was dissapointed because I did not know about it until that morning, my boyfriend heard it on the radio. We were originally going to go to the show in Austin, but we didnt get to borrow his mom's car. So for that matter I was glad yall were able to even come back to San Antonio. The show was pretty small, but it was all in good fun. You guys were good the first time I saw you, and now your even better. The new ep is great, and the show was amazing. I got all but jeff jaeger to sign the new ep, so next time you come back to san antonio, be prepared jeff! Oh, and Amy you have some pretty amazing eyes as well, (you commented on mine, and I was pretty suprised and didnt know what to say, lol. sorry). Keep up the great work! and come back to San Antonio soon!!!

green knit cap = puke? i thought so...if you read this mr puke, i was the chick in the red and dark blue striped shirt..muhahahah! by the way kt, the word "clusterfuck" was beautiful. did jeff make it to austin or did he get stuck in traffic again? i think this reinforces the notion that bands SHOULD travel together, but that's just me...

Hot Topic is very evil. i hope, for the benefit of our generation's legacy, that yall, my dear dear Friends DO INDEED recognize this. that hideous place adds to the over-all ambiance of the whole costume-store feel of the American Shopping Mall. there is no, absolutely no fuckin defense here either, no POSSIBLE reason for such an awful, exploitative demographic clusterfuck. if you ever doubt this, if you ever feel like buying that fishnet shirt or those silly zippered 89" pants, i advise you wander over a section or two to the undergarments. Note the thongs and cotton socks with embroidered ANARCHY symbols. When this dawns on you, get the hell out before you have a nosebleed, like i always do. Anyway yeah the show in austin was excellent, with like two and a half times the turnout since last time. the played the outdoors stage and it was hotter and sweatier than the goddamn hanoi hilton in that fuckin place. i assaulted PUKE when i first arrived. Aimee pointed that bastard right out to me, and there he was, with goddamn green knit cap. luckily he answered the "guess who motherfucker" question right, so i let him by without any permanent burn marks on his face. he fared rather well in that regard. At one point I almost set Dan's scalp on fire but he turned around too fast. the band went on and tore shit up. a raver kid, probably older than me but like two heads shorter in one of those funny sideways raver hot-topic baseball caps kept bopping in the temple with his brim. they dedicated a song to newswhore frankenstein's bride greta van sustern's facelift. again it is reinforced, upon watching this band perform, how they kick the shit out of all these shoe-gazing boring-as-fuck emo-core pansy bands that are everywhere right now. anyway so my mom wanted a t-shirt and i bought her one, and i told her about the hospital-food thing aimee and puke were talking about and so now guys she wants to cook yall a meatloaf or something and bring it to you next time yall come back to town.

anyone that went to the javajazz show knows theSTART can rock out as a three-piece (way to go jamie for being a "swiss army knife"!) the story goes, jeff rode down separate and got stuck in traffic, and didn't get to the venue until around 11:30, so they played without him, rocked nonetheless, with me front and center singing along as usual (i got a mic pointed at me for a HEY! on shakedown...a dream come true) and thanks to the guitar tech person (i never caught the name =/) for the picks, and you bet avril better watch out! later

ok, we just got back from the maxwells show... decent turnout, horrible venue, and something is seriously wrong with jucifer's live set. but theSTART took it in stride and played a fantastic set which we very much enjoyed, and if it were not for dan's mad navigating skillz we'd probably still be lost somewhere. hello, the cross-bronx expressway can suck it. umm yeah good show and we'll have all our big cheesy photos up all over the place quite shortly. we also attempted to get some lyrical corrections on some stuff so we'll get that up soon. but right now... ohh it is bedtime. hey dan :P

Well here it goes... I just got back from Hartford, CT. I have been waiting ever since hearing Human Waste Project to see you guys. It was everything I could have possibly wanted, and so much more. Not only did you guys play beautifully, but you became real to me. Aimee and Jamie, you guys are magic on stage and off. In times when so much seems dull and lifeless... you are shining stars, keep up the wonderful work, thank you for everything. *Fan For Life*

You know what would kick ass? If theSTART played in Freeport at a club called Phenomenon. It's about the size of the Fireside, in a town much smaller. That would be amazing. I would do some independent promo for that show to hopefully blow it up.

thanks for the tip about getting into 18+ shows. Yea when i dl music or burn cd's it feels so much better when i have the actual cd or record so i know how you feel. I wonder if you found "flying machine" on hard copy or whatever if it would be with "be mine"?

Hey Hey... ya know since yall are talkin about the song "Hi Flyer" I started thinkin about the song from the demo "Flying Machine" I was wondering does anyone know where i can actualy get a "hard" copy of that song on cd... i eventualy listened to it so many times on real player i decided to just record the audio and put it to wav file even though the quality is very poor... prollem is i hate having music that I haven't paid for, it's like one of those little things that no matter how justified i am in it. perhaps they recorded it under a different title, or something of that sort... The biggest reason i want to find it is because it's like my fav song by the Start hopefuly this wasn't just a track that got forgotten after they started recording the album and their ep's... does anyone know? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~§ččĄä§ *Trish litter

I think the new song that you are thinking of is "hi flyer" on the new EP. But I don't think Aimee sings "I need." I think it is "It's just a little mess / it's not the end of the world / I'll clear / up later." This is the song Aimee dedicated to Kurt Cobain, at the Fireside in Chicago last night. I could not find anywhere with lyrics for the EP. Maybe they will find their way onto the lyrics page soon. And to you all at the Fireside, you guys rock, I love dancing with you all! Thanks for a great time! Nice to talk with you Aimee, Jeff, Jamie, Bryan, Dan, and Tim.

I think that might be the case, because the tracks on my cd don't match what the cover art say. It's the weirdest thing. At first I thought I was outta my mind, but if someone else has the EP, let me know if it happens on yours too. And onto something completely different, I am working on getting the Start in Peoria, IL. Anyone interested? AND, I have just gotten an offer to collaborate for an online e-zine about bands, music, and the scene in North and Central Illinois. Anyone interested in that? Email me!

The tracklist for the EP: 1.Death by Satellite 2. Bigshot 3. hi flyer 4. the 1234 5. los angelenos 6. trinity it is different than what is on the cover, because on the art, LA is number 3 and hi flyer is number 4 and so on. but at least on my cd it plays as i listed above. does anyone else have the EP? i wonder if mine is defective or they are all like that... maybe i ought to ask the band!

As far as the rage/Chris Cornell thing. Chris walked out, and they decided not to release it. but i read somewhere (theprp.com i believe) that he got back in and it is susposed to be released sometime this year. i've heard the unmastered/unmixed copy of the cd. its good. i didn't know what to expect cos it was kind of a strange combination, but its definatly cool.

hey... whoa. i guess i learned my lesson, dont ever forget to sign online and keep up with this board... lotsa catchin up to do now he he he... well I looked over that whole long thing with the band stuff, whatever... not really my kind of argument so im glad i didn't get in the middle of it... someone asked if they cold call me kitty, that's actualy my drag mama's name "Kitty Litter" (drag mom: person who first helps a drag queen to learn the various things ya gotta know to be a drag queen) so well the name's taken ha ha ha... This Town is a great song, it was what origionaly introduced me to HWP (i am also a huge korn fan from a long way back) i must have listened to e-lux repetitively for a very long time... eventualy i was lookin them up online and was ready to cry when i found the band broke up... but found the start and forgot all my sadness... right about that time i was first starting to perform in drag... The very first song i ever performed on stage (lipsync which unfortunatly it's more accepted then live singing in drag but i plan to change all of that ha ha ha) was This Town by KoRn and HWP... it was a huge hit and really gave me the kind of start in drag that i needed... anyway so basicly i owe my start in drag to Amiee and HWP, as well as KoRn... it happened to be the exact establishment of style i needed and now im workin on changin drag and wakein' the other queens up with some music that's actualy fun and loud... but it's not like yall wanted ta know my story... well if your still reading then i guess too bad you just got my story ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha 'with happy thoughts ~~~~~~~~~~~~~§ččĄä§

I have a question for someone here on this board. I was on the My Ruin message board and there is something about Aimee singing on the new Coal Chamber record is that true? I am not a fan of Coal Chamber but I will make it a point to find someone who has the record so I can hear it if it's true. Also it said that The Start are playing at the Whisky on August 31 the day after My Ruin is that true? I think they should just play together and save everyone the money of wanting to go to both shows.Wow what a great weekend it will be anyway!

Scarling were cool but yes that drummer is odd. He is scary in a bad way not good. Very Soft Cellish and feminine. The gutarist seemed to have a strange relationship with the singer(Jessicka the GUY guitarist that is) I did not like how she treated him at all. Veru abusive and not cool even if it was part of the show. Hey lets break our equipment and beat on our bandmembers. That is very Marilyn Manson and Nirvana. Its been done by both. The music was great though. I think The Start should consider OTHER bands next time. the blood thing is a little contrived too. Aimee please do not ever cut yourself.

^_^ I really don't listen to these bands much. But Theres one song rumored to be by Kittie and Korn which is actually by Human Waste Project and John Davis. It's called This Town. I think its a kick ass song, and one day I hope to get a hold of both of them to get the copy rights to it so I can remake it for my band. I think the song rules. ^_^ Please check out my site btw, so you can get info about the band that I'm in. Just like to say to everyone whos aspiring and in a band, that you dont have to play whats popular to get big, and those that do are sell outs! Play what you feel, or its not worth playing.

I love THE START!!! I finally got a chance to see you play live and you rocked. The venue sucked but whatever. Most venues in my town do suck but it was worth every penny spent. I was really dissapointed with Scarling. Okay I thought Jack Off Jill were an okay band not that great or anything. I have read a couple online interviews with Jessicka the singer and she said that Scarling were nothing like JOJ and that there was a big difference. What difference she cuts herself up (and ewww she rubbed her blood all over some boy and then some girl licked it off of him how sickening and dangerous is that?)and then started verbally abusing her bandmembers and herself. She always gets compared to girls in rock like Aimee and Tarrie B of the band My Ruin that everyone seems to be mentioning on this board but I don't see it at all. I saw My Ruin when they played with Kittie and Flaw and they rocked just like THE START. Tarrie dances and has fun and laughs on stage like Aimee and screams and gets really nuts and scares everyone like Jessicka but Tarrie isn't putting on a show like a play or something. It just looks more real as oppossed to Scarling's act.I just don't buy it. Please tour with a better band next time that people want to see. I heard that Melanie from Scarling used to be in My Ruin but I never got a chance to ask her. I can't imagine it because she is so mellow on stage. I think that's just a rumor. My perfect show would be THE START and My Ruin with Snake River Conspiracy and Kidney Thieves. Aimee you were wonderful and so was your handsome man Jaime. *hugs*

Wow!!!I haven't visited the messageboard for two days and I missed so much discussion. Two years ago when I moved here from Chicago.. I was extremely glad to find out that I live cloase to a town where all different types of genre of music's band all play at this big city. I don't think people who live in LA realize how lucky they are to have all these talented bands who play here mutiple times a year. Personally...we are extremely spoiled. I mean it's hard to get up there everynight and perform in front of people. Plus... different types of people likes differenpt types of music. I don't think we should really care what others listen to because I know nobody really cares. As a person who never "heard" of My Ruin's music and just hear the band's name all the time... I am sure they are great. But theStart's music is something that I would listen to and I am not even a "punk" person. So there is nothing really to fight about, because if you don't like a type of music then don't listen to it or support it. I mean remember when Shakedown came out and we all went out and bought multiple copies of them just to support our favor band? Well...if you like certain band then go out there and tell your friends about it. It's alway better to talk good about something instead of the bad. Let's all stop being spoiled, and just appreciate the music. That's what really matters.

Hi Aimee,I have been a fan for a while now but never posted because I don't like getting into dumb arguements with people but I have to post something so I hope you don't mind. I think you are a truly gifted singer with the voice of an angel. I have been to many Start shows but always just do my own thing. I am not totally shy but not really agressive either. I went to Chain Reaction and The Troubadour to see you recently and both shows were so great!!!!All this talk on the board about My Ruin really makes me sad. I know you and Tairrie B the singer were at one time very good friends and even toured together in Europe. I thinks it's a shame that it has become The Start vs My Ruin because both bands are incredible. As a real fan of all types of music I can appreciate everything you sing about and everything Tairrie B sings about. You both have something interesting to say but you just do it in slightly different ways. While you have the angelic voice she is more demonic sounding. It's a little funny how opposite yet alike you both are(i'm not trying to put down Aimee by comparing her here so anyone who thinks that just get a grip). I am just saying what I think. At the Chain Reaction show I got into an arguement with a girl who was talking shit about My Ruin to my friend as if it made her cool to hate them I finally said something after she said "if you like The Start you can't possibly like My Ruin" and that no real Start fan would ever be seen at a My Ruin show. That is such crap. I go to see both bands and i'll bet there are a lot of other people who come to this board that don't always post who are My Ruin fans too just like there are Start fans on the My Ruin board. Not everyone feels the need to talk shit all the time. I think what you posted about Tairrie was very cool and nice. My question is this are the two of you still good pals? I only ask this because there are so many people who go around pitting you against eachother so often. I guess it would just be nice to know what the deal is. I'm not trying to be nosey or in your personal business I just know that I for one am curious. Thanks Aimee, you are a real person and I respect you for that. I love The Start and wish you luck on The Warped Tour..tear it up!!

"It's not WHAT you know it's WHO you know?" I love The Start and I love My Ruin but that is NOT fair! Tairre B is not one of those people at all. My Ruin shows are not chalk full of rockstars from various other bands they are filled with fans and friends of My Ruin from what I can tell Puke. I also love the band Scarling but I do think it's namedropping of them to include references to Marilyn Manson and Chris Vrenna and Roman Dirge (Lenore cartoonist guy)in every things they talk about and also the girls from Drain STH and Nadja of Coal Chamber. I have been to Start shows and seen Orgy members there and even read interviews with Aimee where she drops names. Most of the time I read members of My Ruin propping other people not saying oh we're friends with him or her to be cool. I have the most respect for Aimee and Tairre but you come off like you have so much hatred for My Ruin how come? Was Tarrie mean with you at one time or did something happen do you know her? As for Manhole well, I never saw the band ut I have the record and she had and still has some intelligent and thought provoking lyrics. I think she was a minority in her field of music and really still is. Bands like Kittie and Otep and Spike 1000 have all been influenced by her as a vocalist whther they would admit it or not just like she has been influenced by people before her. I always thought it was cool that she addressed issues that most people didn't want to hear about. Aimee did the same thing in HWP. This board is like the I hate My Ruin club and that sucks because they are a good band and Tairre B has worked really hard as far as I can see...just like Aimee has. I love Tori Amos as an artist too. She is another fine example of a strong woman along with so many others. Have you even heard the last My Ruin record or seen them live? I do agree that the cover of Tainted Love was not my favorite but hey she did it before Marilyn Manson. You should check out the Nick Cave cover it is beautiful and soft very unlike Tairre to have done. She also did a song about Lynn Strait from the band Snot which s a fucking tear jerker and better than any of the songs on the Strait Up tribute record..especially that Fred Durst mess. Maybe you just need to give her a chance?

supposedly they were seeing eachother once but courtney love fucked it all up. "malicious meddling" is how it was referred to. they'd make the greatest couple in music history, though. they'd blow lennon and ono out of the water. it can happen. tom cruise and nicole kidman were married with two kids and i still say that him and penelope make a better couple. it's showbiz, baby. they should at least do an album together. c'mon, they keep talking about eachother in their songs, it's meant to be! besides, they'd have some damn sexy musically blessed children.

there was a time when i liked the band known as manhole. if i'm any judge on talent i'd say tairrie has some. i was never really sure what to think of her whole "woman in a male-dominated industry" crusade, it always seemed to me like she was trying to play the minority card. i also think that she's a very good example of the old saying "it's not what you know, it's who you know" because she's quite the name dropper. i tried listening to my ruin but none of the songs did anything for me in the slightest and their soft cell cover almost made me do my namesake. of course all of this is just my measly opinion and if anybody wants to think that my comments about tairrie are coming from some kind of bandwagon then think again. there was a quote from tairrie posted on this board that i read and did not hear in any context and based on that quote came my following post. from her answer to the ice cream question i came to reason that she believes that songs dealing with inanimate objects and food and the like are normally sung by "punk rock nu wave pop" bands. i found it interesting that all three of those genres have been used to describe thestart. so, since she made a generalization like that, i decided to make one of my own in regards to the genre that her band belongs to and the kind of subject matter discussed in their songs. get it? you don't need to explain the painful/beautiful stuff to me, i'm the world's largest nine inch nails fan - second only to tori amos on occasion - and neither of them write songs about pancakes. well, maybe tori, but she's really talking about something else i think.

Hey, I read in one of the local rags that some of theSTART's influences are U2 and the Police, two of my favs. Actually, I run a fansite for the world-renown, All-Girl U2 cover band EXIT. They've been mentioned in PLAYBOY magazine, featured on the front page of U2's official website, and their guitar player even played with U2 live on stage at Staples Center. More than just a cover band, these girls write and perform their own songs along with U2 covers. Their large and loyal fanbase has come to love EXIT more for their originality and passionate performances than for just playing U2 songs. That's why I made the fansite! There are tons of amazing pics, fan reviews, and MP3s of EXIT at http://www.u2lafans.com Sorry I just found out about theStart right after they played the Troubador. i don't even really see why the two have to be compared. just because one likes theSTART, it does not imply liking my ruin, or scarling, or even human waste project. it seems a tad silly that all these bands come as a package when they are all so different, and whatever reasons whatever band has for allegedly disliking another, that's their problem. tairrie's swell, aimee's swell, liz, you're swell. everybody's swell. there's no reason for the fans to rally against another band or talk shit about someone else when the fact is that the music should speak for itself and the fans are there to support that. until celebrity deathmatch between tairrie b and aimee echo, i really don't see the point in pursuing this whole deal.

Just for the record I waould like to say that Tairrie was not being nasty towards Aimee or The Start. She didn't say we are leaving in a mean way at all. Her band seemed a little annoyed at being there. I think that Tairrie does support Aimee because I have read nice things she has said about her in the past on the Ruin board and in interviews. I was really out of line I suppose in going up to her like I did and I feel like an asshole now. I don't like how people on the Ruin board jump on the I hate Aimee bandwagon because of this or that and here it's the same for Tairrie. It's all so stupid really Both women are equally talented in different ways.I don't think it's fair to say ALL Tairrie writes about is being hurt and in pain and so on because she is in a metal band and that's all she has to offer. Aimee writes about being in love a lot does that mean that is all she has to offer. They each write how they feel in honest ways and that's what I love. Aimee's lyrics are beautiful and many people can and can't relate just like Tairries. Just because a song is painful does not mean it is not beautiful too. I have all of Tairries allbums 5 total and they are written by someone who doesn't care about making a hit song she just says what she needs to say and yeah I do think people test her a lot. In the press and in person. I did in a way. I think she is exactly what Aimee described her as and if Aimee actually knows or knew her then maybe she has somewhat of an idea. I think Aimee is an amazing woman too who writes from her heart. I think that some people on this board should open up thier hearts and heads a little bit more. I plan on going to the My Ruin board and posting also. I don't think that My Ruin and The Start would go perfect together on a show but it sure wouldn't suck either.I apologize for starting this mess and will learn to keep myself in check in the future. I just don't want this to look like I made Tairrie out to be all bitchy about The Start cause she wasn't at all. Aimee, thank you for responding. I really am a nice person and I feel bad about the whole thing.

on a slightly irritated note, it is a pain in the ass to hand wash, hand stretch, and hang dry a tee shirt that is one size too small. but i paid ten bucks for it, so its not going to sit in the damn closet!

tairrie is right. i've heard sooooooooo many punk rock nu wave pop bands that write songs about ice cream it's starting to drive me mad. i have this friend in a band and he told me that they wrote a song about rainbow sherbert and i was like, "hey, dude, that has been done to death by way better punk new wave pop bands than yours!" plus i had 'sunday, hot fudge sunday' by u2 stuck in my head all day yesterday so i turned on the radio (something i don't often do) hoping that something better might be on. unfortunately they were playing weezer's 'keep neapolitan' and i had a new ice cream song in there. so then i said "fuck this, will no one just leave ice cream alone?!" i put on mtv and there were the white stripes playing 'i fell in love with a scoop of black cherry' and i nearly lost it and bought a waffle cone right there on the spot. thank the stars above that tairrie is more original than that. she writes songs in a metal band about being hurt and pissed off, subject matter from a genre that nobody has thought twice about touching.

it's my new personal belief that we should quit giving so much goddamn credit to people who say what they think. EVERYONE should be doing it anyway. THAT is the new evolutionary STANDARD, my friends. "Ooooh, he's/she's so cool because they SAY what they THINK!"...well...give them a COOKIE then. i guess i just hold direct verbal communication on the same level as eating, breathing, or taking a piss. i couldn't even to TRY to half-ass any of those even if for some reason i would ever want to.

For the record, and I don't want a huge thread following this, I have never posted on the My Ruin message board. I have NEVER said anything negative, derrogatory about Tairrie and/or her band My Ruin. I, in fact, have only wished HER/them well in person and right here on this board. I have never seen My Ruin live but I hear they are very impressive which I don't doubt because Tairrie is (as I have always stated) an incredible woman. And for the record let me also add that she is one of the most courageous and charismatic people I have met, not to mention smart as a whip. So to you, the soulless, who choose to fuck with others because you have nothing in your life-I say FIND a new hobby. I hear yoga works wonders.THE ONE AND ONLY ECHO.

I went to the show on Saturday Night and The Start were wonderful. I didn't much care for Scarling or the other bands. I do have a funny short story. I saw the singer of My Ruin Tairrie B and her band there. I went up to her after Scarling and asked her if she could ever write a song about ice cream or pancakes(I was a wee bit drunk I guess) and she said "sure but I don't wanna be punk rock nu wave pop...so I won't" Then she laughed and gave me a hug and told me to go enjoy the show. It was like she knew I was fucking with her and it freaked me out. I asked her if she came to see The Start and she said"no we came to see Scarling and now we are leaving" then she took a picture of me. Not with me, of me. She wasn't mean at all when she said it but her band looked really insistant on leaving like they didn't want to be there at all.I am a fan of My Ruin no matter what anyone writes on this board and I will be a fan of The Start no matter what they write on the My Ruin board. That was really the first time I had courage to walk up to Tairrie. My friend has met her a few times and said that she is always nice. I was in a silly mood I guess. I think both Aimee and Tairrie are great vocalists in different styles. They have both worked hard and payed the dues most people haven't and they both deserve a break. I am glad Tairrie wasn't horrible. Maybe she was a little bit smart ass but that's what I like about her too. She isn't afraid to say what she thinks. The show was fun as hell just like when I saw My Ruin and Tape. I love the Troubadour because it feels so homey there and personal. After the show I tried to stay and say hi to the band but my friends wanted to leave. Until next time..Shakedown!

Heh, that reminds me of something that happened to a guy that does an online comic I read. He drew this, http://www.goats.com/archive/980313.html, and then sold some tshirts from it. Hershey found out and made him stop. Later, he drew this, http://www.goats.com/archive/000828.html, presumably to settle the score.

Inside I found several strangish folk playing video games in a sidish sort of room and i ran to the counter...Noone to be found running the place... no KT, no noone.... you think malcolm is a bad name? thestart's first tour manager, back when they were still with agm management, had an interesting name. his name was ted keydick, but that's not the interesting part. his middle name is lee. ted lee keydick. teddy leaky dick. i had a manager who's name was richard weiner and everyone would call him dick just to make his name redundant. then there's my 11-year-old cousin, first name summer last name tanner. that's gotta hurt. or think about the guy with the worst name in the world - dick van dyke. nothing against dicks or dykes, i just wouldn't wanna be named that. puke is so much better sounding.

okay, so we've got human, frozert, hypnaughtika, punchy, kidneytheif, the honourable confounding watermellon, puke, and now trashie and kroze? all this individuality in one place is dangerous, people. pretty soon we're all gonna be targeted like american muslims attending their local mosque. just wait until we have a ratings system for music like they do movies so we'll hafta put up with that besides the parental warning (which is totally like warning labels on cigarette packs only for cds instead). the government will start cruising popular bands' message boards looking for young left wing upstarts with funny names so they can be executed in front of a pay-per-view audience. you might raise an eyebrow now, but mark my words. that way i won't need to actually say "i told you so" because you'd have my words marked and you'd know that i already told you so.

I just saw the Start for the first time on Friday in Houston, and they just blew me away. You could say I'm a metalhead when it comes to my taste in music, but they just won a fan for life. Aimee has one hell of a talent for connecting with the audience and the rest of the guys definitely keep it moving. I don't know how they can dance like that and not screw up what they're playing. I've seen a lot of good bands before but they tore it up like no other. In fact I'm probably driving to Austin tonight to see them again! Keep it up guys.

I was thinking about working on making a theSTART tribute cd. Of course we need bands, and that is where you all come in handy. If any of you have a band and would like to be a part of this, please post here or email me so that I know if anyone is interested. Also, this is not a paid thing. The reason that is, is because I would like to have them on MP3 format on someones site so that we could burn them ourselves. Just for fun. Not sure on how the band would feel about it, but I think it would be interesting to see what styles we'd all bring to theSTARTS music. I am kind of stealing this idea from the garbage board, but that cd sounded pretty much like the way garbage sounds, and I think if we did a cd for theSTART itd sound a bit different. Mia

the person who posted on the my ruin board totally wasn't aimee, it was somebody who thought they would be helping the band out by pretending to be somebody they're not and going to the last board on the planet that they should have gone to in order to try and get people interested in going to see thestart. good idea to a certain degree, but don't fucking lie about who you are, you're not doing anyone a favor by doing that. it's interesting, though, to see how many of my ruin's fans were just waiting for something like this to happen so they could spring back out of the woodwork to make rediculous comparisons between aimee and gwen again. i'm sure they all think tairrie is the female jim morrison (which is far from a compliment, if you ask me). A-Girl-Ruined, you said this in a previous post - "so why would a metal fan like the Start then?"
could it be because not all my ruin fans are metal? could it be because a person can like more then one type of music? could it be because someone might want variety?
i'm a fan of both. hell - i run websites on both (which are lacking updates) but fuck it. is it not ok to support both bands? i've read the shit over there and the reposes to the aimee post, whether it was her or not, just seem incredibly ridiculous. to make it short and sweet - aimee and tairrie are two different women doing two different things. why is this so hard to recognize?
end of story. i shouldn't have mentioned anymore, but i was re-reading things and just... ugh! you may not like the music but you've got to respect it because at least some of them are doing more then any of us will ever set out to do.

Blah. Repeat. Stupid. Repeat.
If any of you My Ruin fans noticed... we don't sit and bicker about who's the badder rockstar chick on this site. If there's a discussion, it's usually about something worthwhile. So please save your drama for rainy day when we might actually be bored enough to care.

Ummm....no. You tell me what you think on the board - and I'll read it! I've already dealt with a virus sent by some asshole I don't even know (I'm not saying that you would, but more people than just you read the board) & would rather it didn't happen again. Aimie has, for a very long time, been blanking Tairrie, so SHE would be the hypocrite? I'm happy to explain any part of my opinion you have difficulty with. Just ask!
A-Girl-Ruined
-
A-Girl-Ruined... your talking about people making a desperate plea to be noticed on someone else's board... aren't you being a hypocrite? I highly doubt anyone cares what your opinion is- leave your spite on your own board. And if your so strong about making an opinionated statement.. why don't you leave an email address next to your name so that some of the Heretics can voice their opinion to you.
Ryan <heroelux@aol.com>
anaheim, ca -
I like the 'My Ruin' website better than this...it's a bit more atmospheric and there's loads more stuff on it too-plus Tairrie B and her band My Ruin make really GOOD music, it has to be said. I do agree with Ruined Girl about Miss Echo posting on this site though...she thought 'people who like Tairrie might like her? Why? Aren't there more appropriate bands than My Ruin for a Start fan to like? Miss Echo, long ago, said that she did not cosider herself metal - so why would a metal fan like the Start then? It seemed more like a desparate attempt to poach Tairrie's fanbase. There's room to like lots of bands, but they should show support if they want to receive it...it's really good of Tairrie not to mind though!
A-Girl-Ruined

That person just looks stupid. The End.
Anne
-
I just thought it would be funny to come here and post because a few days ago Aimee made a post on the My Ruin message board that has caused quite a controversy. I am not a Start fan and I think it really sucks that Aimee felt the need to post on the My Ruin board when she does not even support or like the band much less the singer Tarrie B.All these people keep saying that The Start and My Ruin should do a show together but in my opinion My Ruin shouldn't bother. Maybe Scarling and My Ruin would be a good match but who knows considering I have not yet seen Scarling. I just think it's funny how suddenly Aimee makes an appearance on a certain site after how long? Gimme a break Aimee Echo you can try all day to be whatever it is you are trying to be now but Dale Bozzio, Deborah Harry, Gwen Stefani and yes Tarrie B all do it better! The Start should let Jaime Miller go be the DRUMMER of a band worth a shit cause he is wasting his time in your circle. How's that tour going? Selling any tickets yet?

'Dig a Pony' was largely made up in the studio and the words make very little sense. At one point it was called 'Con A Lowry' (possibly to a reference to a make of organ used in the studio) but John changed it to 'Dig A Pony'. "because 'I con a Lowry' didn't sing well... It's got to be d's and p's, you know." Similarly, the line 'I do a road hog' started 'I dig a skylight' and then become 'I did a groundhog'. "It had to be rougher," John argued. "I don't care if skylight was prettier." The chorus was taken from a separate song of John's written about Yoko Ono called 'All I Want Is You'. The original song listing for the album used this title rather than 'Dig a Pony'. In January 1969 when the song was recorded, John explained the secret of its composition,"I just make it up as I go along". In September 1980, he laconically concluded, "(just) another piece of garbage".

hey, wouldn't it be great if good ol' chris vrenna could drum for theSTART? mr. founding drummer of nine inch nails, doing nothing now except for remixes and some solo project that doesn't do any live gigs. aimee already knows him, she should ask him to audition or see if he's interested, shouldn't she? he'd never really take scott's place but he'd certainly be able to fill any missing chair, or stool in this case.

I don't know if you have ever been to this piece of shit site but it can't handle a million furious fuckin tool fans that can't find their long awaited and deserved tickets. Finally I get the main menu that informs me tickets went on sale at 10:00am at HEfuckinB. In a frantic dash for the door I bring the room crashing to the floor around me as the hatred of these fascist musical cock suckers of satan, nuzzle up to choke down a breakfest of the hope of a thousand universes as their fathers all have torrid affairs with skanky women in their midst. long story short HEfuckinB 101.5 and all of satan's little blow hards are goin down on us, we're goin to TOOL!!!"

not knowing anything about scott's circumstances but having read this on theprp (which has a habit of being right about stuff like this, if rather late in getting the information), i can only say that scott has been a giant part of making theSTART's sound as unique and original as it is, and to lose him would be a tragedy... but if he's decided to leave, then we can only wish him the best in future endeavors and hope that this bryan guy is just as good? but umm CONFIRMATION is cool? eh.

kt - I so thought you were about to go into an ozzy-style "I was pissing on the alamo" kinda tale. If you still have that phone card, I'm probably gonna spend most of this week alone as my last housemate moves home tomorrow, and i'm gonna be alone for a week, so I could do with the conversation. Or anyone else that wants to bring me some beer and dope and discuss politics and music whilst getting completely shit-faced

Let me tell you all about the last few days. On saturday I got up at 2 in the afternoon, went to work, worked till 9, then went out to a techno all-nighter which I left, far from sober, at 6am. I ended up in a random persons flat until half 11 in the morning while they got ready for their acid to kick in. I eventually passed out 4 oclock monday morning. I then got up at 2 in the afternoon and got a lift onto campus for a meeting, then went to the university battle of the bands, then to a party at work with free drink for 2 hours, then to a club, and then ended up passing out in a friends room at 5:30 am after walking my exgirlfriend to her door and back because she was scared to walk there by herself. I got up at half 10 to go to work, leaving at 5, and drunk and smoked until 2am. got up at half 8, went into the studio to record a new track, and partied until 9am thursday, passing out in the same friends room as before. Woke up 5 hours later and kept going, including at one point having 16 people in one room, and a 2 1/2 foot long spliff. Finally got home at 5am, got into work friday morning at 11, finished work at 4, and it's nowhalf past midnight, and i'll probably stay up to watch the football game tomorrow.

It's been a fairly busy week.

Oh, and check out my bands' website. It's had a fairly serious overhaul.

thanks a bunch puke =)
well i didn't complain much about the cost of the shirt, because first off no one was even looking at their merch, everyone was there for incubus except a tiny handful (lo and behold it was me and my friends) so i was being supportive

ricki
-
shirts were ten bucks i think, hooded sweaters twenty five. so for thirty bucks you coulda gotten three new t shirts or a sweater and an ep or something. ah, i remember the days when i could get an incubus t-shirt from the mall for 15 bucks, from the mall for fuck's sake. you probably still can, but they charge thirty at the arena because they know you'll buy it. when you go to shows like that the only good thing to buy is the program because they'll never sell it anywhere else for less money. but you just wait, in two years theSTART's shirts will be going for the same ammount when they play an arena. maybe.
hey, kt, you got the compliment of the century! try washing your pants with a bunch of tissues in one pocket and a blood stain on the outside and see which hangs in longer. besides, there's nothing wrong with being outside, just ask david bowie. My friends, the other night i found myself in the parking lot of the Motorola manufacturing complex on the bleary edge of town at around 5:30 in the morning. i didn't have the cab fare to get me any farther out into the bush, where i live. i was very intoxicated and could not figure out how to work the cellular phone i was recently given. i hate cellular phones. i had been discussing with esteemed colleagues and thinking all night of heavy things such as the 12 million count figure the US government projected wil die when india and pakistan square off. I was wondering what morning it will be when he hear that this has happened. I spent hours weighing the merits of our grandparents' generation and our parents, the baby-boomers, and then their children, us. us...it was mind-bending. I had to take a piss so i stumbled over to the dumpster near the depot entrance. while i was relieving myself i felt the glaze of distant headlights swell to cast the differences of my shadow hunched over itself in front of me against the dumpster. i turned around, and in the reserved parking lot space fifteen feet away was a black volkswagen passat. when the driver turned his headlights off i could see his face; he was a younger man of about 27 or so, bearded with slick glasses and dressed sharply in a suit. he got out of his car and stormed up right up to me with his briefcase wearing the most offended and furious look on his face. he yelled something like "What do you think your DOING?" and i said "Taking a piss. What are YOU doing?"..."What am I doing!? I'm coming to WORK, and when I co..." and before he could say anything else i interrupted him and said "Sir! If life is a pair of pants...what pocket are we in right now?" and so he frowned, backed off, then pointed at me with his finger accusingly and said "YOU'RE not IN the pocket! YOU are the STAIN on the OUTSIDE!!!" and then stormed right off. i stood there for a long while after that, my friends, trying to figure this one out...in the midst of everything else. i dunno...the whole time, during and after the whole encounter i had been thinking...hey man, i'm pissing on a fuckin DUMPSTER!

when they take the word god out of the pledge of allegiance, i'd say yes, there is such a thing. people can still come to my door and try to talk to me about their beliefs since that bill wasn't passed that tells everyone to keep their religions to themselves. that would be unconstitutional, which brings up the whole hypocritical aspect of a government having to govern something that it says shouldn't have anything to do with public government. but religion is a tricky fucking thing to handle for anyone, let alone politicians. as far as not having any limitations, well, we've created so many, if we want to start tearing things apart and starting over i'm all for it. god knows we're trying to muster up as many do-overs as possible.

i agree with a percentage of human's post, especially the freedom to choose part. abortion isn't nature's way of anything, it's science's way of destroying a life to save another. miscarriages aren't common and consistant enough to be compared to abortion. for every one true story about a girl who's life would have been over and needed an abortion there's 20 other stories about women having ten abortions a year (if not more) because that's their choice for birth control. if stress was a major factor in miscarriages then all an unwanting, stressed out mother who's considering abortion would have to do is just worry a little more and the problem will fix itself, right? and what about every deformed or diseased person that you've ever seen, obviously nature didn't weed them out, so would you wish them dead? reproductive freedom is something we're all born with but society can take away. every fight for this freedom is a fight against that particular society and, yes, many people have died in that battle. but america fourty, eighty, or three-hundred years ago was a very different place both morally and scientifically. the puritains frowned on a lot of shit that is totally commonplace now, not just birth control. religion was way more a part of peoples' lives than it is now with the more enforced separation of church and state. modern medicine allows women who normally would have died in childbirth to live through it, the same way many of us would currently be dead or disabled if it weren't for "western" science. we all need the right to choose but with than comes the need for limitations. it's difficult for me to say, but it's true.

i say we can save money and time by having abortions and capital punishment consolidated into one service, performed at the same death-for-all facility. why half-ass it, you know? there can be a line for women at one end of the room, and a line for death row inmates at the other. the women leave with lollipops and painkillers, the inmates leave in bodybags. shit, forget the body bags. they can just dig a big hole out back to throw EVERTHING in! heh? heh!?

In nature, if the fetus is malformed or unhealthy, or if the mother is under severe stress, often an abortion (miscarriage) will occur. Abortion is natures way of protecting the mother, so she will still be around to reproduce when the conditions are better. In America land of the free, it was once illegal even to have birth control information. Of course wealthy women always had access to abortion, even if they had to travel abroad to obtain it, where poor or working class women would have many children, and often died in childbirth. We have come so far. Women now have reproductive freedom, along with which comes with the ability to work and earn economic equality. It is easy to forget the women who have died and suffered along the way to earn this freedom. There is really only one freedom. It is the freedom to choose. If we can't choose we are not free . ~human

This has always been an issue, although, only slightly riding with my own beliefs, I believe it's where hypocracy falls into topic. When one says that "every life is worth living," you can't pick and choose who this is to apply to. It must apply to all.. so even if someone has commited a crime, murdered, if every life is worth living, so is theirs. Personally, I could say that my own hypocracy is that I am pro-choice and anti-capital punishment. But when it comes down to my own moral beliefs, I would never actually get an abortion, therefor, no hypocracy. I hold the pro-choice stance in knowing girls who have been raped, in knowing girls that have been 14 and have been pregnant and have been completely alienated from all of their friends and some of their family. But as I never thought before whether or not I'd get an abortion if it came time to make that decision, I also witnessed a girl, whom I went to high school with, go through a pregnancy senior year, be alienated from friends, teachers, and family, and get straight A's and walk down the aisle in cap and gown the day before she was due. Capital punishment.. perhaps another issue completely. But again... hypocracy of moral beliefs, I suppose, it what it really comes down to.

while i totally agree with punchy on the issues being completely seperate, i feel completely opposite. i am pro-life but anti-death penalty. in my government class we have extensively discussed this because many liberal politicans feel the same way that i do and conservatives feel the opposite [like punchy] and people think this is contradictory. i think that terminating a preganancy at the very first stages and killing a fully developed human being are completely different, but that's just me....

I can only hope that you're anti-death penalty, just to back up your belief that every life is worth living. Just a thought..." -- annne well i guess im pro-life, but having an abortion and killing someone who was convicted of a crime is something that is totally diffrent. on one hand you have an innocent baby who essentially is being killed because it's not wanted, or whatever the reason. then you have someone who is most likely guilty of a crime deserving of the death penalty. im not sure how i feel about the death penalty, but i do think those are 2 seperate issues that shouldn't be compared to each other.

Just as a matter of interest... the news tonight documented a state parliament meeting held recently that brought the topic of legalising abortion in my state. There was 15,000 abortions last year when it was relatively illegal. Their theory is, how many more will occur if it is available on demand? Interesting thought. I really still believe that there is no 'one' answer and its necessity is in relation to many factors. Anyways, take care all,

hey, elysah, if you scrolled down you would have seen my comment about rape victims. allow me to quote myself "personally i believe that there should be acceptions [to an abortion ban]. i think the morning after pill is not abortion (and i do support it) and that a rape victim should be allowed to abort their child during the first and maybe the second trimester only. third trimester and partial-birth abortions are fucking grotesque and there's no reason why they shouldn't be outlawed."
i totally agree that sex can be a way of expressing your love for someone, i never said that everyone should be stripped of their pleasure sensors and have a legal limit of three children; although the latter does sometimes seem a novel idea. since i don't despise all forms of abortion i can't exactly call myself pro-life, so i too am pro-choice.

~sir puke~
-
I fully agree with what puke has said and all the things he hasn't. Sex was designed for reproduction whether you choose to rule it "old fashioned" or simply choose to ignore it. They are sooo many other ways 2 people can be intimate and share their selves but it just takes more creativity and intelligence then unzipping your pants. And with that i'm not saying sex is the idiot's playground. I am pro choice because i feel that every life is worth living whether you were born loved in silk sheets or abandoned in a dumster. Anyways experiences aren't good or bad they are simply experiences. It's our mind that desides the effect the situation had on us. Once you honestly and fully accept that suffering is as an equal part of life as being happy then you can realize pain isn't sad it just IS.

I’m not saying that anyone is a "mistake"...it's just that sometimes a pregnancy isn't planned and it usually isn't at the best time. shit if everyone who didn't plan for their child would abort, then I wouldn't be here, so please don't take anything I said in the wrong way. punchy

i think that if a woman is raped she should have the privilage of having the choice to abort or not. but do you understand how little the percent of abortions come from raped women? most women abort for convienence. if abortion is ever banned, there should deffinantly be some exceptions, like if the woman was raped or the pregnancy is dangerous to her own life, etc. abortion is a form of birth control. you're preventing the birth of a child right? its like a last resort birth control.
punchy
-
now, i agree with all of you that people need to be more responsible and use protection during sex. that would most definitely cut down on unwanted pregnancies, obviously. but, i've noticed that you've forgotten a very important issue. what if the woman is raped? no amount of responsibility can save her from that. and what if that happens and she's just a 13-14 year old kid? it's not her fault. she shouldn't have to bear that burden because of some sick asshole. some people, like puke, are always so quick to blame women for getting pregnant. get a broader perspective. a woman doesn't ask to be raped. she does not provoke it. a man doesn't rape someone out of sexual arousal, he does it out of anger, using sex as a weapon. now, don't you think a woman should have a choice then?

I totally agree with kenickie - its completely up to the woman involved. There has been several attempts to ban abortion where I live, yet none have been totally comprehensive. You can still get them performed, provided that it is safe for the mother. On the other hand, my boyfriend was an adopted child and his philosophy is that if his mother had of aborted him, he would never have existed. I really believe that it is up to the individual and reliant on the situation. I dont believe, however, that sex has nothing to do with closeness. Perhaps you've just never expeienced the right kind or with the right person. It can be fantastic but of course, if you dont take any precautions you must be prepared for the consequences. Abortion is not birth control, but for some people it may be a necessary 'evil' where the birthing of the child may be dangerous (for the child or the mother). Its really up to the individual and the individuals situation. You'll find that there will be alot of resistance to pass a bill of this kind. I'll stop raving now :) Take care all,
liesey <purrsnickety33@hotmail.com>
-
i believe it should ALWAYS be the woman affected who is the final decision maker on something like this - and state banning of abortion is a stupid idea that would serve no realistic or useful purpose.

having unprotected sex when you're not ready for children is a dumb idea; equally, not having sex period to avoid the risk of pregnancy also smacks of fallacy to me. sex is as much about expressing love as it is procreational.

practically, yes. honestly, no. but when i lost my virginity i was having unprotected sex at the time. five minutes later my girlfriend and i talked about pregnancy. at that point in time i realized what a mistake i had made and was totally freaked out at the possibility of being a father at 16. of course i had just lost my virginity so i wasn't about to stop having sex and all i was thinking about was myself in the present, not myself my child and my girlfriend in the possible future. after we broke up a few months later i was starting to "sleep around" but refused to have sex without birth control. then more and more of my friends started becoming single mothers or were having pregnancy scares of their own. i started to figure out that sex is mostly in the mind. i noticed how people would experience the pleasure and emotion of intercourse and get hooked on it like it was crack cocaine. and since i refuse to give in to any addictive vice (sans possibly marijuana) i decided that moderate sexual encounters with the constant use of birth control was the way to go, or better yet just staying away from it. the only form of birth control that is 100% effective without fail is to not have sex at all. the only sure fire way to aviod herion addiction is to not do herion. of course i usually feel like some kind of prude or a really lame individual for not hooking up with someone every time the opportunity presents itself (which honestly isn't often) or feel like a hypocrite every time i'm overcome with "earthly desires" and would do practically anything for a little copulation. but feelings like these are a lot easier to deal with than the feelings that go along with unwanted parenting.

erika- My conception was what you'd call a "mistake". My parents were both young unmarried, just out on their own and they REALLY did not want a kid at that point in their life. However my mother decided to take responsibility for her actions. And you can't even begin to imagine how incredibly grateful I am for that. She choose to think of someone other than herself and to give me the greatest and most precious gift possible....life. And even though they didn't want me at first they didn't really have to "learn" to love me. They had nine months, just short of a year, for the idea to grow on them. There actually is a prebirth attachment that occurs. And no I don't feel in any way that their love is "fake". Even though I know I was not wanted at first.

Hello to all.....puke...I have to agree with Brogan, that was a bit sexist, but clear and blunt way of stating a actual solution. If people only noticed how much poverty there is due to having so many offspring’s; not only poverty but negation and all sort of abuse, whether physical or mental a child is due to suffer if not planned for. I personally am very pro-abortion....I believe a women should have the right to decide what she wants to grow in her body or what she wants out. Yet, the stupidity of just having sex as a recreational time, is something most absurd. How would one feel if one were to know that your "parents" in-fact didn't want you, yet, learned to love you; would it not feel fake? I don't think anyone deserves this, no matter how much a person opposes. The women who is going to give life/birth to this offspring should have the right, and I think they will ALWAYS have the right to decide. Abstainance is the best way, but some just don't understand that, and it's cool and all, but just be careful of what you do, and remember...it was your choice to open your legs now it's your choice whether to keep them open for life, or to have that piece of you removed. I do feel a women should have a right, so I totally am pro-abortion.

hmm, okay. firstly, bronagh, i respect your opinion a lot. you've taken a stand on many subjects on this board and i've completely agreed with you. you're very insightfull, we just happen to differ in opinion on this topic. differences like these can lead to what some may call "arguing" and can make everybody uncomfortable and i'd like to squash that as soon as possible. i've never been reffered to as sexist in my whole life, i actually find it offensive. maybe i can clarify a few things. "but I'm sure as hell not going to tell any other woman what she should and shouldn't do with her own body." and "but id never condemn anyone for their choice, i just wouldn't agree with it." were statements that i disagreed with. people are free individuals (depending on what country they live in) and have the right to make their own choices, but to say that you would never condemn or judge someone based on those choices or to say that you would never influence another person's personal choice is just not true. as an example i used a refference to smokers (and lumped them in with drug users, because that's what they are, the same as people who drink coffee and soda all day for the caffeine rush) stating that smoking is a personal choice. smokers are condemned every day because of this choice. there have been laws passed making it illegal to smoke just about anywhere. of course second hand smoke can cause cancer and second hand abortion is just disturbing, but it's an analogy for chrissakes. also, correct me if i'm wrong, but a fetus is a body in itself connected by the umbilical cord of it's mother. so having an abortion isn't a woman doing what she wants with her own body, it's a woman doing what she wants with her body allowing a much smaller body inside of her to get cut into little pieces and flushed out.
now about the comment that made me a sexist, i'm not taking back a word of it. males can't get pergnant (unless you're a member of the seahorse family) so obviously the ugliness of my words were directed towards females. sorry, that's just how it worked out. but frankly, if you're not in a position to have a child then you shouldn't be having sex at all. that goes for males and females alike. like lola said "it's not fair to bring a child into the world who isn't wanted" or, even worse, a child who wouldn't even be able to survive without government help. the answer isn't death, the answer is abstainance and moderation, something that this world doesn't want to understand.

~puke~
-
i agree with puke...sex is taken far too lightly these days...its become a form of recreation...i find this disgustiong...people need to respect each other and themselves and stop being so indifferent toward each other. whatever happened to saying 'good morning or hello' to people you walk passed? well...i guess it doesnt really matter...were all gonna be slaves soon anyway. good fences do not make good neighbors...just a future of antisocial aliens. PEACE RESPECT AND REVOLUTION!

Oh, by the way: "if you didn't have the answers to these questions before you decided to get fucked then you're a dumbshit and you do NOT deserve to be able to waltz into some office and have them scrape out your offspring. you deserve to have your boyfriend leave you and your parents disown you and wallow in your own stupidity. years of pain for minutes of pleasure." was the most sexist comment I've heard in a long time. Well done.
Bronagh
-
I really hope you don't use that first paragraph as pillow talk, puke.
I don't think you can compare a drug user with somebody who has an abortion? I personally don't care if a complete stranger uses drugs. Again, it's their choice. Now, if it was somebody close to me, of course I would, out of concern for them, not because I'm taking a stand against drugs in their entirety. As for the children comment, parents are responsible for their wellbeing, AGAIN it's not a case of a group of strangers dictating what a woman should and shouldn't do with her own body.
It's a shame that this argument always gets to the point of somebody getting overly upset about other peoples' opinions. I respect yours, at least do the same for me.

Bronagh
-
i would have to agree with bronagh, although puke did say some things that make sense (the whole jellybean thing was very funny :0) i think that in some cases abortion is being abused but to get rid of it would not be right. i mean, everyone who has an abortion has a different story and there are so many valid reasons that there is no way to make a law to pick and choose. i also think that the morning after pill should be more readily avaible because it would stop many unnessary abortions. it's not fair to bring a child into the world who isn't wanted. i know someone's thinking "what about adoption?" well, here in california there are so many kids in adoption that it would be impossible to give them all homes, and spending the first 18 years of your life in foster care is tremendously painful. i think that everyone should have a choice of what to do with their body and not have someone else's morals imposed on them.
lola
-
having sex for your own pleasure is as selfish as becoming a minister for your own salvation. we have sex organs because we're supposed to use them to make children, plain and simple. if it didn't feel good we'd never do it and our species would die out.

as far as choices and condemnation go, for someone to say that they'd never tell someone what they should and shouldn't do with their own body is 100% pure bullshit. you know why? because we don't draw the line at your body, we start thinking about how what you do with your body affects mine. for instance, i remember when smoking a cigarrette was considered a personal choice, something you're doing to your own body. but now, good god, show me a smoker or virtually any other "drug user" and i'll show you somebody being condemned for their choices. or what about if/when you do have children? you wouldn't influence them or scold them for decisions that they make concerning their own bodies?

nobody knows what choice they would make until they're staring the situation in the face, true. but too many people have knee-jerk reactions when faced with something they're affraid of. a girl becomes pregnant and she starts worrying about tons of shit like "is the dad going to have anything to do with this, will my parents be supportive, how much will childbirth hurt, am i financially capable of feeding two mouths" and so on. if you didn't have the answers to these questions before you decided to get fucked then you're a dumbshit and you do NOT deserve to be able to waltz into some office and have them scrape out your offspring. you deserve to have your boyfriend leave you and your parents disown you and wallow in your own stupidity. years of pain for minutes of pleasure.

punchy
-
I dunno, if sex was JUST about having children then there'd be no pleasure to it, or it wouldn't be so hard to GET pregnant in the first place, which IS surprisingly hard to do. I'm definitely pro-choice. I don't know if I'd personally have an abortion, I don't think anyone really knows what they'd do unless they've been in that situation, but I'm sure as hell not going to tell any other woman what she should and shouldn't do with her own body.
Bronagh
-
abortion is like jelly beans. i really wish i had an actual analogy to go along with that but i don't, it's just a cool statememnt, don't ya think? but anyway, i guess it depends on what you consider abortion to be. of course pulling a baby halfway out of the womb stabbing it in the back of the head and sucking out it's brains would be an obvious example of real abortion, but christian fundamentalists have argued that even masturbation is a form of abortion. personally i believe that there should be acceptions. i think the morning after pill is not abortion (and i do support it) and that a rape victim should be allowed to abort their child during the first and maybe the second trimester only. third trimester and partial-birth abortions are fucking grotesque and there's no reason why they shouldn't be outlawed. the morning after pill is a very acceptable form of birth control for those who's other means have failed. since the fertilization process takes up to 72 hours, if the condom breaks or something stupid like that the woman can take the pill within a certain time which kills any sperm in her system thus perventing any fertilization from taking place.

on the other side of the argument, infacide exists among almost every species. we've even found evidence of this in early man. if a tribe couldn't feed and support a newborn then they would kill it for the benefit of the tribe. we were killing our children long before we ever dreamed up god or money or morality as we know it today. it's only been "wrong" for the last few centuries. of course adoption wasn't really around during the early days of man but the notion of maturity sure was. if you think that you're mature enough to handle sex then you should also be mature enough to raise a child. correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the whole point behind sex to make children? or am i supposed to believe popular culture and think that it's going to bring me "closer together" with someone?

I personally do not believe in abortion no matter what the case, in that sense I guess I would be considered pro-life. HOWEVER I also believe it is NOT a political issue but a moral issue. And I do not and will not condemn anyone for having one, some very close friends of mine have had them before. We all have a free will for a reason, and it is not my place nor anyone elses, nor does anyone have the right, to impose a set of values or ideas on another person. But that doesn't mean I have to agree with theirs either. If that makes any sense at all.

i dunnno if id go so far as to say im pro-life but i think abortion is a pretty sad means of birth control.

Ehh, Jeff? I don't think Elyzah said anything anywhere about holding a gun to your head and insisting you're pro-choice. That post is not "dictating", it's having an opinion.

greetings, fellow heretics. i just signed a petition for million4roe.com. go there! they are trying to get lots and lots of people together who are in favor of keeping abortion legal. i swear, is bush a moron? maybe i don't need to ask that. but i wonder if he realizes that by making abortion illegal, that will only increase the amount of women who will die using illegal and unsafe methods of abortion, such as wire hangers. it will also increase the amount of children born in potentially neglectful and abusive households. if you personally are pro-life, i will respect your opinion. but i would just like you to think about something. what good is life if your parents don't want you? i've seen a lot of kids in that situation and it is absolutely heartbreaking. abortion does not prevent life. the soul that would have been born in that body will go to another body who has loving parents. and so i urge everyone, please, please at least consider going to that site and signing the petition. it's free, and your karma level will most surely go up. thank you all.

Hey everyone i'm new here because I have finally got computerized "yeah". I love the new record and can't wait for the tour. I just saw a band called My Ruin a couple weeks ago when I went to see Kittie when they came to my home town. I am a fan of all girl fronted bands and some are even metal. I met the singer and asked her is she had ever heard of the Start and she told me to do my homework so I did. I had no idea that Aimees previous band and Terri B's previous band toured together and they have been firends for like years or something. I felt really stupid. I think that My Ruin, The Start and Scarling should do a tour because although it would be a little incestuous it would be fun to see for the fans of all three bands. Just a thought for later. What does everyone else think?

Yeah, Mikey was the old guitarist. Left a while ago, then Jamie switched from bass to guitar and Jeff took over on Bass. The Mikey "Rumour" seems to be true, as Kerrang printed it *ahem*

In my opinion, he's a great guitarist who was asked to join one of the biggest bands in the world. Whatever anyone thinks of Limp Bizkit, and I think my opinion of them is fairly well known (For those who aren't sure, It's not a particularly favourable opinion), I don't think anyone would ever turn a job like that down. I say best of luck to him, and I wish him the best of luck.

I still want Fred Durst to drown in a vat of his own faeces though.....

Hey there! Just to tell all you car owning people that it is Boycott Esso day on Sat 18th May, 2002. The reasons can clearly be seen on www.stopesso.com but basically, they gave Bush one million dollars for his election campaign and he then conviently pulled out of the Kyoto agreement. They also deny that Global Warming exists. Also known as Exxon or Mobil. Go on, help save the planet!

I need someones help!! at work (tower records) my manager is giving me a listening station. So i get to pick 6 cds that are going to be on display for everyone to hear. My 6 are: Jack off jill - clear hearts. Far - water + solutions. New End Original = thriller. Circle Jerks - golden shower of hits. My Ruin - a prayer under pressure...
and bikini kill - the singles. ( i would have picked deadsy + theSTART, except they're already in the IN-store play.) Anywayz, i have to write bio's for each of the bands. Maybe 10 lines each. maybe a little more than that. anyway i'm wondering if any one would like to help out with this. if you think of something spiffy to say, just email me. anything will be appreciated lots + lots.

so whats the deal with theSTART/scarling/enemy doing east coast (NY!!!) stuff??? oh and Human! i love you!

Being a music industry major at SUNY Oneonta has opened my eyes to the fact that if I remain in Watertown for the remainder of my life I may have to live devoid of a music scene. That is, unless I can bring one there in the future. I just want to say, assuming someone from the band catches this message, that were I closer to your shows I would go to everyone I could, and you have my support. Echo, your vocals are beautiful and are a very, very welcome change from today's spiraling music scene. It's good to see a group standing for something again, I thought that almost died with Rage Against the Machine. Thanks for the boost, con amor, Dev.

did anybody ever watch that show family matters? some people called it "the urckle show" or however you spell that motherfucker's name. anyway, if you did, answer me this: when the fuck did little ritchie become an orphan and how did this take place? you remember little ritchie? no, not little richard. you know, aunt rachel's kid. bitch done got knocked up, had a kid, raises him at her sister's dysfunctional house and had a rather successful restaurant career. then one day they never fucking speak of her again. little ritchie still rides his goddamn three wheel through the kitchen all day and nobody wonders where his mother went. that's more than just a little odd. if you ask me that bitch of a grandmother fucking ate her alive. and do you think a kid like steve nerd-offspring-of-beelzebub would be able to pester laura winslow at school like that without getting slapped with some harrassment suspension? bullshit, how about a restraining order. you know the kids nothing but trouble. he'll probably end up working for the government one day.

ps, i just noticed how kt-esque that all sounded. sorry for the lack of originality, i just wondered if anybody else noticed little orphan ritchie.

Kt~ I don't get what your beef is. I see you here talking about kids on the bbs like we don't come here. for the longest time I was allout anti-bbs for this band. But it does clean up this board. conversations like the ones you love to carry are easyer to take on the bbs. Unlike in here, it just seems like your ramblin. If anyone read the post on the whole manson trip... it's clear that you were sticking up for the guy when everyone was talking about how much of a sellout he is and a wash out as well. You defended him and what not... and when you saw that everyone get sick of hearing you, you started to agree with the board. Maybe I'm wrong I dunno. But I've read what I've read and that's all I see. Let's just drop this whole thing. Just remember... "We watch. And we are always there... we are legion for we are many."

There is a street team, but due to the lack funds from big brother shit ain't goin down. This topic has been a dead horse for some time on the starts bbs. Long story short... if you want stuff to pass out, go to the shows. they have free stickers there, you can pick up a buttload and then pass them out on the street, at bus stops, and at your local bath house :)

Yeah, Layne's death has bummed me out, not because I ever expected them to reform, but just that there was always a chance. Dammit. Well, if the rest of them want to recruit me as a new vocalist.......I can play guitar too....

Human, Thanks, i'm mailing him now.

coal chamber split up but at least they're still at a capacity to make music...layne staley's death has completely bummed me out. i knew it was going to happen...i had casually remarked to a friend of mine recently about how it would be great to see a reunion, seeing how jerry cantrell and the boys have always said they'd love to tour as alice in chains again as soon as layne ever got his shit together. i told my friend that it was unlikely, and that chances were they'd probably someday find him alone, dead, his body finally having given up from the years of smack...

Ahhhh, Its nice to see that Coal Chamber are back to their old ways again. I remember touring with them when they used to break up every night. Best of luck to them, I got a feeling they'll be back.

""Although no official confirmation has been released as of yet, it appears as though Coal Chamber have once again split up. The bands recent show in Lubbock, TX this past Wednesday was cut short around 4 songs in after tensions between band guitarist Meegs and band frontman Dez Fafara boiled over and Meegs allegedly hit Dez in the head with his guitar. This prompted Dez to walk off the stage only to return and announce that "this is the last coal chamber show ever," before once again leaving. The remaining members of the band tried to continue on with Meegs on vocals, however they quickly gave up and the set ended with band drummer Mikey trashing his drum set. Not surprisingly, the band were not present at last night's April 18th Oklahoma City stop of the tour and it was allegedly announced from the stage that the band had broken up and would not be performing on anymore of the dates. According to informed sources, heavy drug use and money issues are said to have played a big part in the blow up. Dez and Meegs are long rumored to have had a history of in fighting, a relationship which is said to have erupted into a fist fight that brought about the temporary split of the band at a June 2000 NY gig of the "No Home" tour, causing the group to cancel their stint on the Tattoo The Earth bill. The band then took some time off before eventually deciding to regroup. Despite their current situation, their upcoming new album "Dark Days" is still set for a May 07th release through Roadrunner/Island/Def Jam."" ~ from theprp.com

To ease everyones brains... The show was taped. Just about every show they play theres a camera-man(woman; just for you picky people). I was supposed to get hooked up with a show the last time I ran into the camera guy(and yes this is a guy filming it) but I never got it. *shrugs* Oh well, no skin off my back. But dude if your out there, my b-day is coming up! What ever happend to the tape of me singin at the vidie shoot??? Anyway. I wouldn't know about the kids not knowing the words. I was on stage too but I was in the back next to Jamie. Yall shouldn't bust on the kids for not knowing the words anyway. We were there to dance and that was it. Hell, here's two kool-aid points for those who knew the lyrics and here's one for those that tried but boogied that buns off anyway! Rock On rock'n'roll kids!

something went terribly wrong last nite. after my limo showed up and my handlers were moving everyone out of my way so i could get out of there it had completely slipped my mind that i didn't get a goddamn ep. and the "hi flyer" song was a different song than i thought it was. there's another new song, it probably doesn't have a name. i'll try and describe it and maybe somebody who wrote it might understand and shed a little light on this poor dim soul. scott does 4 stick clicks and the guitar comes in. sounded like it had a little delay, kindof u2-ish chord progression. 4-4 time i believe. there's a little bass synth (which might be hard to do now) and it has this real ambient sound to it, especially in the choruses. i have no clue what any of the words are but aimee sings her ass off. there's all these vocal swells in the chorus that sound like eerie hollow vowel sounds. this is the only way i can describe this song and it was the best one i heard of the new new stuff. maybe someone knows what the hell song it is.

okay, the show itself ... it went really well. if i remember the set list correctly it was nemesis, melt, hang on me, time, the 1234, big shot, hi flyer, glimmer man, gorgeous, and shakedown. i think i'm missing a song between melt and hang on me. so the show went like a typical show only with seemingly less problems than ususal. they were starting shakedown when dan "the man" schartoff suggested that they do the "breed" cover (nirvana). jamie was the only one who knew that shakedown wasn't the last song. i go to take (or leave) a much needed piss and i come back and there's a bajillion people dancing on the goddamn stage (i would be told later that someone had asked aimee if he could come up and dance on stage during shakedown. she had agreed and, when the time came, he jumped up there and the whole front row followed him). i look at dan like "what the fuck is going on?" and then the end of the song comes. i'm not quite sure what happened because there were too many people to see thru but as far as i could tell jeff thought he was in the clash and started going ape shit. all i see is his synth go flying off stage left and his bass flying every other direction. he obviously had no idea that there was another song to do. so, surprisingly enough, after i pull his bass out from it's final resting place behind his cabinet, everything was still in tact and just needed a quick tuning. the synth, on the other hand, had a couple keys busted and was rattling like a maraca. good thing he didn't need it for breed, which totally kicked ass of course. and there you have it. i'm not going to go into what the fuck everyone was wearing because that's lame.

so this "hi flyer" song wouldn't happen to be ... you know, that one that hasn't gotten played live yet, is it? coz if it is, it's really good. not that the other new stuff isn't, in fact, i like it better. the last album was good but i honestly like the new songs more. and if there aren't like twenty hit singles off the next album i'm getting my tattoo removed. or at least turned into something else, like a diagram of the cataract or whatever. (you know i'm joking)
and about the east coast and everybody else who hasn't had as much of a chance to meet theStart as everybody from their area has, there really isn't much that could be done about it. there's been a million and a half times that i've called into a radio station like mad trying to get tickets for some show. then they come back from commercial with the winner who's like "oh, i won? cool. knac rocks er something." and i'm screaming at the radio because some unappreciative fuck just won and i didn't. but i'm gonna see dio, the scorpions, and deep purple when they come through and nothing will stop me! noting! maybe they'll play some old rainbow songs. fuck yes!!

fresno, ca -
I am back. Once again in my quest to make people wake the hell up, I have sent 72 burned copies ( I hope nobody is offended by that as that can be construed as hurting the Starts profit)of "Shakedown" to my friends across the country. That's no shit! As a matter of fact, the next issue of ShortBus (due out on April 23rd) has a review of the Scratch 8 show and a CD review of Shakedown. Also our website (www.shortbusmEgazine.com) will be up here in about two weeks and in the interviews section, has an interview with Aimee from issue #3. We also had the fine pleasure of interviewing Tommy Chong, Pauly Shore, Tiffany (but she didn't take her clothes off for us like she did for Playboy) and coming up we have Les Claypool and Kid Rock in June. Anyways, that's enough of my shameless self-promotion. You guys and gals take care and stop buying Bon Jovi records.

If this band doesn't make it huge, I'll burn all of my Hanson CD's (oops, did I say that?)Anyways, I am the Northern Cal editor of Short Bus Megazine which is a humor/music mag with an ultimate goal to have every Starbucks Coffee on earth get shut down (and the one rumored to be built on the moon. I was turned onto the Start by Jenn down there in Palmdale who is the SB Editor of our southern branch and I am now going out of my way to get as many souls turned onto this band as possible.
