Okay, firstly, everyone CHILL THE FUCK OUT!

Secondly, I know there's good intentions and all, but if people are gonna post huge things like that, can they at least put them into paragraphs? It hurts my eyes otherwise.

Thank you.

oh, wait...the us already have plans for that place as well (damn you just can't get away...)______________________________________________ Definitive answers may not be possible for another decade, however. NASA scientists had proposed sending a spacecraft called the Europa Ice Clipper to the moon in 2001, but the mission was scrapped due to lack of funding. The Europa Orbiter mission, scheduled for launch in 2008, is currently under consideration. This spacecraft would include instruments such as an ice-penetrating radar that could see through the ice to any ocean below.

I'm sorry if that brought you down, lets try talking about homeland security and our governments energy program ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------WASHINGTON – Backed up by Native American leaders from across the country, Alaska’s Gwich’in people assailed the Bush administration Feb. 11 for scheming to turn over to greedy oil companies their ancestral lands in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). A standing room crowd packed a conference room in the Methodist Building here as the Gwich’in leaders appealed for an outpouring to block the plan to drill in the 1.5 million-acre ANWR, a threat to the calving grounds of the 130,000 caribou in the Porcupine River herd that are the mainstay of their diet and culture. Drilling in the ANWR was high on the list of priorities set out by Vice President Dick Cheney’s Energy Policy Task Force. Bush and Cheney have invoked “executive privilege” to keep the proceedings of the Energy Task Force secret in the current Senate hearings on Enron. “Our ancestors have lived with the caribou for generations beyond time,” said Jonathan Solomon, chairman of the Gwich’in Steering Committee (GSC). GSC spokesperson Sarah James added, “The coastal plain is vital to our caribou. We call their calving ground ‘The Place Where Life Begins,’ and we cannot allow it to be ruined by oil drilling.” James opened the conference by singing a prayer song about protecting the millions of endangered wildlife that thrives in the ANWR. Present in the crowd were leaders of many Native American, human rights, environmental and religious groups. Dune Lankard, a commercial fisherman and executive director of the Eyak Preservation Council on Alaska’s Prince William Sound, said crude oil from the Exxon Valdez spill continues to foul the once pristine waterway 13 years after the disaster. “Enron and the Bush administration are creating their energy plan behind closed doors with no transparency,” he said. “We should be able to pull the plug on that plan and start over. We need to dream big and take control of this energy question. Oil companies are the highest subsidized, most profitable, least taxed of any corporations.” Instead of bowing to their greed, he said, Congress should approve a plan like California’s, which reduced energy consumption 15 percent through energy conservation. Tom Goldtooth, executive director of the Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) based in Bemidji, Minnesota, said, “Bush’s energy plan does not provide homeland security to the Gwich’in ... The plan is at the expense of the human rights of Indigenous peoples, not only the Gwich’in, but the Western Shoshone Nation in Nevada, who are opposed to the U.S. government’s and the nuclear industry’s planning to use Yucca Mountain as a dump site for this country’s high level nuclear waste.” He urged an outpouring of solidarity “to stop this axis of evil – oil industries and governments – who work together, expanding their oil frontier, destroying forests, wetlands, coastal plains, habitat, water quality, and are being a factor in climate change and global warming. The American public must stop this act of colonial terrorism by Bush and Cheney against a people that just want to be left alone to live in peace.” Robby Romero, leader of the rock band Red Thunder, said he had visited the Gwich’in lands on the Arctic North Slope. He blasted the right-wing dominated Congress for its Patriot Energy Act, which includes drilling in the ANWR as a main provision. “They are doing a snow job on the American people with this act that threatens our people. It has nothing to do with ‘national security.’ This act is a crime,” Romero said. Chuck Burrows, leader of a Native Hawaiian environmental group, put beautiful leis around the necks of many in the crowd. He said he has appealed to Hawaiian Senator Daniel Akaka, a Democrat, to reverse his support for drilling in the ANWR. Jackie Johnson, executive director of the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), said it is “lack of economic opportunity” that forces indigenous peoples sometimes to take positions inconsistent with their cultures and long-term economic self-interests. “We still struggle with the lack of jobs,” she said. “I grew up in a subsistence culture like many others here.” The NCAI strongly supports the struggle of the Gwich’in people to stop the oil drilling and protect their ancestral lands. Pat Sweetsir, a Tanana chief and leader of a consortium of 42 Alaska tribes, pointed out that 95 percent of Alaska’s arctic north slope is open for drilling, with hundreds of spills severely damaging the permafrost. He debunked the image of the oil corporations as benefactors. “Even though the Prudhoe Bay pipeline runs through their land,” he said, “a gallon of gasoline costs $4 and a gallon of heating oil costs $3, highest in the nation.”

Author: Terrie Albano and Judith LeBlanc People's Weekly World Newspaper, Feb 16, 2002 “Why did they bomb us? Why did they do this?” asked Afghan civilians captured and beaten in two nights of raids in Oruzgan by U.S. military forces Jan 24. They were released this week and told their story to The New York Times. The local police chief and members from the government disarmament commission were sleeping in the district headquarters when it was attacked resulting in 21 killed and 27 being taken captive. Prisoners were punched, kicked, tied up and walked on as they pleaded, “We are friends!” The new government of Afghanistan had to intervene to get the prisoners released. Judith McDaniel, national director of American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) Peace Building Unit, told the World, “I hope people read the story and read it carefully ... The kind of absolute permission that Bush has given himself to create violence and respond with violence to almost any situation, which he perceives as threatening is being mimiced by the men in the military.” Scott Lynch, communications and membership director for Peace Action, said, “Obviously these incidents are a probably just a fraction … of atrocities and tragedies that have been incurred. As we get further into the conflict, the truth inevitably makes its way out.” Civilian casualties “couldn’t be ignored,” said Marc A. Herold, in a telephone interview with the World. On Dec. 10, Herold, a professor at the University of New Hampshire, rocked the world with a report on civilian casualties in Afghanistan. Herold, who collected information from international sources, put the Oct. 7-Dec. 6 death toll at 3,767. He said that it would have been hard for the U.S. media to ignore his report after it was picked up by German, Canadian and British media, including Der Spiegel, the BBC and The Toronto Globe and Mail. Reports of Afghan civilian casualties from U.S. bombings emerged as early as Oct. 21, 2001, two weeks after they began. Pentagon officials and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld consistently denied or dismissed these reports as “enemy propaganda.” “The military knows they’ll get pummeled about issues relating to civilian casualties, and they don’t have a clue how to address it in a nonpropagandistic way,” William H. Arkin, a former army intelligence analyst who is military adviser to Human Rights Watch, told the Times, “The subject ties them in knots … and they avoid it.” Herold, a professor of economics, conducted the study for a chapter in an anthology, Sept. 11 and the U.S. War: Beyond the Curtain of Smoke, to be released this month. Herold said the revelations of the Jan. 24 massacre, along with a changed atmosphere, make it “acceptable politically to question the Pentagon.” Although sometimes his sources are questioned as “unreliable,” Herold rejects these charges adding that he read regular reports from the Associated Press who hired Afghani and Pakistani journalists inside Afghanistan and on the borders. “Are they saying the only truth comes through the American lens?” Herold asked. When asked about Bush’s State of the Union address, calling for more spending for hi-tech weaponry because it saves lives, Herold said, “Smart weaponry is more precise, but you have to put technology in context. When you decide to drop 500-1,000 bombs weighing 2,000 pounds in urban or village settings you have to know that you are going to kill people.” The Pentagon’s claim that civilians were “unintended” victims is a murky one. “Did the military consciously bomb civilians?” Herold said. “No. But, many targets are questionable military targets. When a tractor is strafed and bombed is that a military target? When a convoy of fuel trucks is systematically bombed, its drivers killed, are they military targets? Fuel is needed for hospitals, too.” Herold predicted that a legal case will eventually charge there were unconscionable attacks on civilians. He said the civilian toll has been systematically kept from the American public, but was hesitant to predict public reaction when the truth comes out. “People are fundamentally good,” Herold said. He hoped the public would exert a restraining influence on the Bush administration. “Among the students on campus here was a real discomfort to responding to the violence of Sept. 11 with more violence or curtailment of civil liberties,” he said. When asked how can the direction of the Bush administration’s policies be changed, Christy Ringore, communications director of the United States Students Association (USSA), told the World, “Our students are of the opinion that to be patriotic means keeping our government accountable. And means having a serious debate about what is happening to our country today ... We have to make sure that our legislators know that because they won an election it doesn’t make them an autonomous group and for them to stop working in conjunction with the people who voted them in.” AFSC’s McDaniels says that coalitions like the National Coalition for Peace and Justice are discussing, “what do we mean by security, are we talking about more missles and better missles or are we talking about healthcare for every person in this country or the security of our jobs?” Ringore told the World about USSA’s coaliton efforts, “The National Youth and Student Peace Coalition work is extremely important because we are doing something that none of us could do alone.” The coalition along with many other peace groups are sponsoring a national march on Washington on April 20. Tens of thousands are expected to attend. Lynch said, “There is a core of folks who may initially have supported military action. Their numbers are going to drop as [the Bush administration] widen the war. And people see the cynical use of the “war on terrorism” to further the pre existing rightwing agenda of the Bush administration which has been tax cuts for the rich and the corporations, Star Wars, and expansion of the Pentagon budget.” >The authors can be reached at talbano@pww.org and jleblanc@pww.org

Oni Press and Springman Records have announced the bands scheduled to appear on April’s Pounded: The Official Comic Book Soundtrack. The disc is inspired by the upcoming comic by Brian Wood and Steve Rolston and will be featured in an article about the miniseries in an upcoming issue of Spin Magazine.

“The band response to this project has been amazing,” commented Springman Records chief Avi Ehrlich. “Determining the final list has been a difficult process. There are just so many groups that wanted to be a part of it. This is seriously going to be one of the best punk rock compilation CDs out there.”

The bands scheduled to appear on the CD include: the Bouncing Souls, Bigwig, Dynamite Boy, Amazing Transparent Man, Fury 66, Pain, Big In Japan, Gob, Sloppy Meat Eaters, Strike Anywhere, One Man Army, Ann Beretta, King Monkey (MY BAND!), the Eyeliners, Mr. T Experience, Mid Carson July, and the Teen Idols.

In addition to a full-length audio CD, the Pounded disc also includes a bonus multimedia section. Fans can check out full-color Pounded comic strips, visit the creators’ websites, find a local comic specialty store and access information on the Pounded miniseries.

“I’ve never seen a comic book tie-in as cool as this,” concluded series editor James Lucas Jones. “Comic fans get the chance to check out a bunch of great new music and comics get exposure in a whole new arena.”

Pounded #1 (of 3) will feature 32 pages of black-and-white story and art, with a full color cover. With a cover price of $2.95, it will ship to comic book stores on April 3, 2002. Pounded: The Official Comic Soundtrack features exclusive Pounded artwork and multimedia section. It arrives in stores April 17, 2002 with a retail price of $7.95.

Kenickie...you really don't know what you're suggesting. But other than that I like the rock city idea.

I'm now going to three all night parties in the next month. Drum and Bass on saturday, Techno in two weeks, and then the Hundred Reasons All nighter the week after. My poor poor liver. I don't think this many drugs will have been consumed in such a short period of time since....well...last week...

By the way, i'm trying to quit smoking cigarettes. I've managed a month so far, but I plan to keep smoking dope, because, let's face it, it makes me cool. ;-). Any advice on how to keep the Tobacco out of it? I can't afford to smoke pure joints all the time.

I'm ranting now aren't I? It's been a long day. Oh, and KT, if you so much as touched phill's girlfriend, she'd kick your ass. Seriously man. :)

I'm sure I'll probably get flogged for this...but I think the only label out there that actually does a good job of promoting bands (those most of them are crap!) is Dreamworks....almost all of the bands that they've signed recently have taken off....Alien Ant Farm, Jimmy Eat World, Papa (I eat) Roach(s), Lifehouse, Nelly Furtado...I mean....I think if they could get on that label, they'd promote the hell out of them......and as everyone else has said-FUCK THE LABEL!!!

I had to post because I just heard the terrible news about The Start being dropped. Oh god what's next I hate the record business. I have had a crazy day first I heard this and then I heard that Saliva was nominated for a grammy? The only good thing I heard was someone told me that they went to the My Ruin message board and read a post confirming that Tura Satana will getting back together for Tairie B's birthday show atThe TRoubadour and playing after My Ruin next friday night! This was the only thing that made my day better. I wish The Start and My Ruin would play a show together and Scarling could play too(they are Jessicka from Jack Off Jills new band)does anyone like them here? I hope I see Aimee at the show because there is a rumor that Jessicka will be singing with My Ruin and oh god what if Aimee was there too..how simply perfect that would be for me and my camera. I know very selfish but a girl can dream can't she. Don't worry Aimee because these bastards haven't a clue !

if you havent seen vanilla sky yet, DON'T. i've never been more pissed off at a movie ending in my entire life. I take it back; go see it, but walk out RIGHT at the two-hour mark, because the last 16 minutes will completely fuck up the entire movie for you. 90 percent of the movie is great, but the last 10 percent ruins the first 90 percent completely, and you feel not only unfulfilled but as if you were just robbed of two hours and sixteen precious minutes of your life.

I sure it isn't true, theSTART is an amazing band.If they were dropped then the people who run that label are a bunch of freakin' morons.Just becuse Limp Dick and System of a Down can sell a million copies in a couple of weeks doesn't mean every other band sucks just becuase they couldn't sell millions in a few weeks.theSTART are way better then all the top selling bands out there. At least they something else to offer people besides lame a$$ powerchords and fat guys rapping and sreaming.News like this makes me really question my dreams of making music. It seems now a days it doesn't pay off to sound different then the norm, because either you won't get signed or they'll end up getting dropped if you don't sell as much as Creed in the first couple of months.

KT - you need to dial 0044 †hen the number... if the number has an 0 at the start you need to ignore it - for example, 0161 becomes 161 - 0044 161 etc... that will work!
Fiona
London, UK -
hey asshole i need a more coherent phone number than 0155-whatever it else it was last time. i called that and it said "wrong int'l number" so i called the operator and he told me with a very thick puerto rican accent that 44 is the UK's int'l number and that dialing "011" before ANYTHING was apparently a big FUCKING mistake and that there would be heinous consequences if i did. i described to the operator in a rusty tex-mex dialect of spanish the sign of the beast and he let me off the goddamn phone without coming over to my house and slitting my throat in the middle of some night in the coming month. He even told me he'd wear his motherfucking headset and lash me with an piece of ethernet cable. So i tried to dial the number with a 44 in the place of the 011 in the first four-digit block of the eleven digit number you gave me but the damn electronic voice operating system to whom i refer as Rosie(as in Rosie of the Ringing Bells) kept squealing at me that th number was all fucked and she further suggested that i hang up and check the number, and then dial ALL OVER AGAIN. so did. and the SAME GODDAMNED THING happened, Malcolm, and so i spent the next half-hour switching around the digits in the first four-digit block of the eleven digit number you gave me and rotating the 44 as WELL as the 011 in and out of the number JUST IN CASE the operator was only FUCKING with me the whole time. SO MALCOLM! what did i do next? well, shit, i thought. he gave his CELL phone number and it's worth a try so i MIGHT as WELL DO IT, you know? Malcolm? SO i did it. and rosie sounded pissed. i shit you not, man. She's normally all robotic and indifferent but when i entered in your damn cell phone number she practically snarled at me that i wasn't, and i QUOTE for the sake of quoting, "AUTHORIZED" to dial that number. and so i was given no option, to dial menu of go-backs; i was hung up on, with all of Rosie's unleashed emotional fury electrifying the telephone lines and sending me flying across the room. Malcolm. the number you sent me is FUCKED! i need a REAL NUMBER! i dont know if i could TAKE ANOTHER BOUT!!!

you know what... i really don't think being dropped could be the worst thing in the world for theSTART. they're a talented group and i think any label would be more than happy to pick them up - they weren't very well promoted but i'd say they picked up an excellent fanbase off gorgeous and are bound to sell more records off the second single. if they ARE dropped, and i'll wait for a confirmation before i believe that, i have a hard time believing it will be difficult for them to find another label. what they're doing is very different from the likes of the nu-metal bands or pop acts, but it's undeniably great music. let's hope everything works out alright.

Boy oh boy, I haven't been to the website since forever... I can't believe all the shit talking that is going on. It is absolutley amazing that so many intelligent people can be so judgemental and frankly STUPID. I have been a fan of TheStart since the day they "started" I personally really like the music , the fans and mostly the humble and talented band... What truely upsets me is the fact that who ever these people are that like talking shit about people who play music to have fun and express themselves must really not have any creative bones in their bodies or else they would at the very least respect and apprieciate others who are expressing themselves through music; At the least keeping real music(good or bad in your opinion)alive. Since today is the last day of the year 2001 I would like to wish everyone a happy new year and I hope if anything the world's chaos should teach people is that at least we have ear candy to take us away for even a moment from all the bullshit.. To the band members of the start I wish you the world and hope that you take all the critiscism and leave it behind you with the 2001.

Hello. You've reached 858-2675. Please leave a message and we'll call you back. *BEEEEEP* "Hello, good afternoon. This is Dr. Harvey Salisbury, with the Hays County Coroners Office down here in San Marcos...i'm trying to get in touch with a one Gus Earnshaw, whom i met with last week in regards to his deceased mother. Mr. Earshaw, i regret to have to tell you this in a message, let alone through the telephone but i'm afraid all others avenues in contacting you have yielded me with only this this number. There was an accident at out department yesterday, Mr. Earnshaw; an accident that involved our refridgeration facilities. I'm really sorry Mr. Earnshaw but it appears that there was a power surge at approximately 5 p.m. yeasterday afternoon that knocked out the electricity to the unit in which your mother was being...kept. Unfortunately Mr. Earnshaw, there was no faculty present until around noon today when the problem was discovered, so that means the body was without refridgeration for well over 18 hours and...well...we'd like for you to come down to our offices as soon as it is convenient for you so that we can discuss...hmmm...alternate means for the funeral, as i hear you were wishing to have an open casket ceremony and, well Mr. Earnshaw...it doesn't look like that's going to be an option any more. Please get in touch with me as soon as you can; either number on the card i gave you last week should do. Thank you Mr. Earnshaw, and have a nice day." *click*

whats sucks is that people get stuck in a certain type of music rut. Like only this kind of music rocks and all others suck. I think this 'rocksteady' is that type of person. Personally Amiee inspires my singing. What also bothers me is that this person calls them self 'rocksteady' the title of No Doubts new album, and used Gwen as an example. i like No Doubt, and don't like that this person uses them and other bands for their own ends simply because they don't know the people. They think they hear a few songs and know life...yea right, were it that easy. [does that make sense?]

what exactly, pray tell, could the connection be between nemisis and rock steady whatsitsname? quite a lot of bitter people out there, or is it just one? ip tracing on this thing would really be brilliant... in any case, i do think that theSTART are one of the most innovative acts in music today and their sound really can't be compared to anything else out there. for a band that preaches constant positivity and good will, they certainly get a lot of crap. i doubt either poster (if they are two separate people, although come to think of it, it is plausible) is jealous of aimee, but obviously something about theSTART irks them. it certainly can't be lack of originality or the band's bad attitude. don't let them get to you, guys, the majority of us are behind you and understand what you're doing. and scott, i'm thinking a flat-top might be more flattering :P
stefanie
philadelphia, pa -
Hey Scott, i think you'd look sexy with that afro *wink wink* Wow, you know what i dont understand? Why people who dont like the band waste their energy posting negative things? If you dont like them then at least do something better with yr time. I seriously doubt that you've inspired anyone. Aimee is amazing (along with the rest of the band!) so just get over yourself and leave us alone. The simple fact that Shakedown is #7 of 2001 should say something. aaargh! Some people just need a swift kick to the arse. p.s. i apologize if this posts more than once, my computer sounds like its going to explode.

i find it really ignorant that people will talk negatively about a band and musicians that they have no knowledge of. all the members of theSTART were in previous, successful bands before this one, and aimee has always been a magnificent leader for girls like myself. i am personally into music other than typical mainstream stuff, and it is pathetic to compare women in music simply because it is a stuggle in itself to become successful in the music industry if u are female unless your out there selling sex. each to their own, but have enough dignity to respect those who have worked hard to get to where they are.

It seems that there really are some very very bitter and JEALOUS people out there. I think that that is the problem. That they cant accept that such a brilliant formation in theStart has arrived and might begin to rival the likes of some other more established bands. But fuck, isnt that what the music is about? Creativity and reinvention? Why are people so threatened by theStart? Why cant they be open enough to accept and embrace their art? I know I've gone off on a tangent here, but I just dont get it. If you dont like it - dont listen/read/look! Realise that there are people who have been inspired by Aimee and theStart and just because you personally havent doesnt mean that it cant possibly happen. I for one have been greatly inspired by Echo and I dont understand how anyone could possibly attack her personally. If you dont get it now you never will. Leave theStart for the ones who want to dance and be moved. To the rest of you: fuck the hell off. Sorry to babble, I just dont understand some people.

Okay, I don't post alot, but i do check the board out every once in awhile and i have to say what is up with all these pricks and there egos. Stop being so damn judge-mental. First there is the hypoctrit who decides to post under the name nemisis and put down they band she claims to be a fan of. Save your constructive critism for the mirror you look in everyday because the rest of us are content. After that we have Rock Steady (your right there are alot of girl singers in rock but the ratio of girl singers to guy singers is just ridiculus) unfortunatley there are alot of people like you who think that just because a band has a female vocalist they are trying to be like another band who has a female vocalist, there-for making it hard for bands like that to be sucsessful. (think about it, listen to your rock radio and tell me how often they play a band with girl vocals) so that's that. Before I go I just have one question for the band, I heard a rumur that Aimee and Jamie were going to try out for the WB's Pop Stars and Scott and Jeff were auditioning for the next Making the Band. Is this true?

'Maybe in five years from now there will be all these wonderful girls in rock bands and it will be my fault?'Was that what she said for real?Pretty self promoting for someone who has not done very much.Erm, I think that there are many girls already in rock bands both playing instruments and singing and believe me Aimee you are not a leader, you are far more a follower.trying to be the next Debbie Harry orDale Bozzio or Gwen Stefani Or Madonna or whoever else you attempt to steal your image and vocal style from. The Start sucks and there is a real rumor going around that you got dropped by your label so how are you going to continue being the inspiration to all women? You are a silly little girl with a silly looking band but I have to hand it to you Aimee Rodriguez you sure have everyone fooled!

I think people who are stuck in the land of Hot Topic-ism (I'm not dissin' the store, but just certain people) need to open up there eyes a bit wider and see that there is more to "goth" "punk" "raver" "metalhead" and "freak"... theSTART has an indescribable sound that is their own... such a drag that it feels like I only respond on here to negative posts... as far as "calling ourselves metal in HWP" I HAVE NEVER CALLED MYSELF METAL IN MY ENTIRE EXISTENCE and was very surprised to hear that HWP were "classified " a METAL BAND by others due to the many bills we shared with "metal" bands. I love slayer, don't get me wrong. But Alas, the START is not HWP. As far as HERO being called "POP", once again I must say that I have never used the term POP to describe that incarnation of this band. To be POP you must sound like another group that is POP and be popular. WE don't and for that matter we aren't, very. And at this point, brought to the term "punk", I will tell my little nemisis, (nemesis is the proper spelling)to fuck right the fuck off for you know not what you speak of! You don't know me, know what I know or what I do in my life. You have created an idea of your own of us from a a few interviews (don't trust the press, they always get it wrong)some songs online, perhaps the live show and a CD you may or may not have purchased. I do not know what your idea of what defines what is, or is not "punk", nor do I venture to speculate. I, frankly, don't care. We are not "breaking up". The use of the anarchy symbol in our name is simply an identification with an ideology that we, personally, believe in and in no way a sort of fashion statement or means of gaining "punk" credibility. Isn't it sad that humans feel the need to compartmentalize things? This band goes in the "punk" box. This one the "metal". "That band sounds like ______." I think it's bullshit, but have been guilty myself. I have always put myself in the "punk" box. I have always been "different" and identified with those who are "different". I feel uncomfortable around people who try to be "like" someone else, someone they are not. We make music. I am not sorry. I am so happy the square does not fit in the circle for you! It really never has for anyone has it? On a completly different note, I do hope everyone everywhere ( yeah, you too Nemisis) has a brilliant remainder of the year with love and goodness and peace. Do something for good for someone you don't know it'll make you smile. We miss you AECHO

I really like THE START but i'm sorry you are not punk and I think its a little annoying that you would be saying you were metal when you were in HWP and pop when HERO started and now you are punk? PUNK IS DEAD and long over with and I think its a shame that you have to suddenly say you are punk when you are not. An anarchy sign painted as the "A" in the band logo does not equal punk. I thought THE START were a really original band but I have read a few interviews that really sort of disheartened me. I hope that the rumor isn't true and I hope that you figure out what you want in the music world because you are really cool and should not act like posuers.

To Winona? She was arrested for shoplifting... apparently she tried to hide like $5000 of merchandise in her shopping bag. The also found a bottle of "unidentified" pills on her, so she was also charged with posession of prescription drugs without a prescription.

I caught a US Machine Head show, when they were playing with Fear Factory, Chimeara (sp?) and Ill Nino. So what is it with you guys, trying to feed off other bands success all the time. When you gonna put out something good yourself, something worthy of listening to. Your music sucks. You open for band, without even being on the bill, then go out and pick up the chicks who came to see real band. You guys should get a real life of your own, and not work off others success. What did you accomplish by being on tour with these bands. You didn't get payed for playing that cramp you call music. Nobody was dumb enough to give you any money for what you guys did. just wondering... if so can you point me in thier direction, I like to rip off these people too.

you know how sometimes you write something, and you submit it to be looked at but you refuse to let anyone you know to see it because it's intimate or personal, serious? like you do certain things when certain people are around because you DON'T know them and their opinion doesn't matter to you, but your not like that in front of people you do know because you value their opinion, they matter to you. (i can't seem to put this into correct terms). but if thats so, who really knows you? the stranger who see's you without reserve because you don't care about them? or the friend who you are shy to because what they think matters to you? (i'm thinking about this as i write). yet if this were a good friend you wouldn't be shy, maybe nervous. but your never nervous around that stranger. so who really knows you? I know I said that I wouldn't post about this again, but oh well, you'll get over it, hopefully. Anyways, I know very well that Aimee and Gwen are two completely different people. I happen to also enjoy No Doubt's music, especially Beacon Street Collection, that album is the shit. Anyways, I was not saying that all of their music sounds like theSTART, (How stupid do you think I am! Nevermind, don't answer that) I said that ONE of their new songs sounded more than a little like theSTART. And no I never said that the song was "Hey Baby" which by the way has to contain one of the worst chorus' in the present music scene, next to "I'm a slave for you" by Britney Spears. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Ms. Spears herself didn't write the "Hey Baby" chorus now that she is a "talented" song writer. Once again I'm rambling, sorry, I don't know the name of the song, all Gwen said was that it was a brand new song off of "Rock Steady" that hadn't been released yet. They were just playing it at their concert and it sounded A LOT like theSTART.

hey kids.

Aimee posted on the new board the other day for whoever asked where she was.

as for the Gwen thing... i admire both Gwen and Aimee *Aimee a lot more of course* for their style and originality. and i have to say when i heard the new no doubt song (hey baby) i thought of Aimee and it made me smile. hehe. the song is all about being the only girl in the band and stuff. that's why it reminded me of Aimee not cause of the actual sound of the song. but i haven't heard the rest of the record... i can never figure out why people say Aimee is like Gwen. they're both two completely different people!

while i think aimee and gwen's voices have vague similarities, i don't think their music is comparable. i would say theSTART sound more akin to a modern-day blondie... no doubt's sound is influenced by very different types of music. eh why am i posting about this?

This is the last I'm going to post on this because I don't want to begin another my ruin theSTART discussion. I don't think that Gwen's new goal in life is to become Aimee. However, the new song that I heard sounded so much like theSTART that it was sad.

I hope.....although I wish they would release Glimmer Man so the whole entire world can hear it because it was the song that I remembered from the first performance that I had seen them at and made me go to another show of thiers.

IncubusPardonMe- I think it's the other way around. Gwen reminds me of Aimee! I went to see U2 on fri. who by the way put on an AMAZING show. And No Doubt opened for them. Gwen was kind enough to unveil a brand new No Doubt song off of "Rock Steady" to us. As soon as I heard the synth's in the song I knew that Gwen had been spending entirely too much time listening to theSTART. This song sounded so much like theSTART that it was ridiculious. I always admired Gwen for her individuality, however that night she showed how much she really has. I was very dissapointed. Oh yeah, she's also now doing her hair just like Claudia from Lunarclick.

Very good points made. The thing is, all the people who are on here regularly are very open minded and are willing to listen to most people's opinions. You get random people coming on here and dissing either Aimee or Tairrie and the regulars usually just think "Not again..." If you look at the people being bitchy, and then scan down a few pages, you're unlikely to see their names again. Debate is good, but the subject is getting dull. You're right, both are amazingly talented women, I seriously doubt either ripped the other off, but they were close, is it any suprise there'll be similarities?Anyway, let's just leave it alone.

On the other hand, where did you see the video? Must see video...must see video....

I am a huge Start fan and a My Ruin fan and I have been a huge follower and fan of both Manhole and HWP and Tura Satana and Hero for fucks sake. All I can say are here are the real facts as I KNOW them to be true for you poor misinformed people on the whole Tarrie B vs Aimee thingy...Okay Tairrie started Manhole and AImee was a back up singer in HWP (I know because I have a demo of the first HWP songs and there is a guy singing and AImee is a back up singer it was not really her band . Tairre was a rapper who put her own band together and yes it was very influenced by rap and she has even said in interviews that RATM and Body Count were more her inspiration for doing the band thing. Manhole was a very dark band itself. NOt a bunch of crappy rap lyrics but she did touch on some serious issues like rape and abortion and even beauty standards. She also had some deep personally painful lyrics which were very heavy. Tairre has stated in many interviews that the reason her second record had suck a drastic change from those issues to far more personal topics was because of her relationship with Burton Bell the singer of Fear Factory which had been an ongoing thing even as she wrote the Tura Satana record. Her reference to "One Night In Spain" had nothing to do with AImee(who meant Spain refering to the band "Spain" and listening to the cd or something like that? Tarrie's lyric was "One night in Spain-One day in Italy..you took away everything you've given me" talking to Burton. She has explained her lyrics hundreds of times in mags and online interviews and even in emails because I wrote her and asked her what Luna was about and she wrote back and told me. The other song you are talking about is called 'Flux" not E-LUX and if you look up the word Flux in your dictionary and listen to the lyrics you will see it is about something very personal like her band I believe she said in some mag. I think that AImee is an extra ordinary singer and in the same sentance so is Tairre B. They are very similar in many ways but oh so different in others. If you remember it was Tura Satana who took HWP on tour and helped spread the word about AImee and company. That is how I found out about HWP. Later I did crazy research and got old demos from trades and pictures and even a video from HWP that I think may even have Tarrie in it if i'm not mistaken(I could be wrong but there is a girl who looks a lot like Tairrie in it).Tairrie has always said she is not a goth chick. Black hair and pale skin do not always equal goth ya know. AImee however was right? Yeah and so what ! I saw HWP in Metal Hammer talking about metal and Mike Tempesta was the guitarist and he told me they were a metal band. Yeah so what now AImee is new wave/punkish pop and Tairrie has stopped rapping and is screaming over stoner metal? God get over it. They both fucking never cease to amaze me on the way they come back stronger and more intense than ever. Tairrie has never been shitty to Aimee in Kerrang. Infact she always mentioned AImee in good ways. I have seen her talk about plenty of people like Jessicka and Sugarcoma and even Kittie in high regard so that is not fair. Why is she made out to be such a bitch when she is not?HWP broke up and 2 months later Tura SAtana did and I don't think it was Tarrie trying to copy Aimee. People are so mean and it sucks. Can't you just grow up with this?

I loved what I saw at the Denver Weezer show in September. The crowd didn't show much love, causing me to think them to be a bunch of ingrates. I got to meet the Start after the show, and they were way cool, down to earth people. They were understanding of the crowd, saying "Hey, we're new on the scene, and everyone's impatient cuz they want to see Weezer. Aimee's stage presence was great, despite suffering a little problem with the altitude...the other guys straight rocked, too. Keep up the great work, guys!

This Aimee Echo vs, Tarrie B. thing is really funny because I dont think anyone from the starts board has ever gone onto My ruins board to talk shit on Tarrie, when there are facts that cant be ingnored. I loved HWP and through them I found manhole/tura satana/my ruin and this Aimee ripped off Tarrie thing is just false. Manhole were a rap metal band and damn good at it, HWP, goth metal band. Manhole changes their name to Tura Satana and with it comes a change in sound and look, a little more goth less rap.hmmmm. Tura Satana puts out a new record in late 98 with lyrics like "one night in spain" and "flux" or was that "e-lux"?E-lux was recorded in 96.(I read the liner notes in every record) Now,HWP breaks up, I saw their last show at the House of Blues with...Tura Satana opening. Two weeks later Tura Satana breaks up, and who does she hire to help her write songs for her new band, Jeff Schartoff of HWP. Aimee did'nt hire Marcello or Brian, she started a new band. As far as Tarrie saying in Kerannng that Aimee rips her off, it's kind af sad because she obviously stole lyrics from aimee for her Tura Satana record and had to cover for it. She only got away with it because her record came out before HWP's record in the U.K even though e-lux came out in the U.S a year before. I'm not picking on Tarrie, I think she's cool but to say Aimee rips her off just ain't right.

Basically we had 20 mins each, and one band decided they were gonna play 40. Which meant we didn't get on stage till 5 to 11. It's supposed to close at 11. Luckily we got an extra 15 mins, but half the crowd had gone by then.

Kenickie, we're the supposed Headliners!!!! Yay us! So about quater past ten-ish. I'll be wearing a Dead Kennedy's tee, come say hello.

As for the whole Aimee Tairrie thing, the arguement is pointless. I have met Tarrie and she's a very funny, very kind and talented individual. I loved Tura Satana, and while My Ruin aren't my Favourite band, they're certainly good. If we're gonna diss Aimee's lyrics, we really have no idea what we're talking about. "One Night In Spain" saved my life. Without that song I would be dead. I think that says something for the lyrical content personally. As for being staged (And in no way take this as an attack on Tairrie, it isn't) whan I saw my ruin last, she came out into dark green/blue light, recited the intro from the last album, and they went into Beauty Fiend. I wouldn't call that spontaneous. They're both equally fantastic, just differnet. NOW SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY!!

Jeez, some people.

Wish me luck at the gig all..see ya soon.

goodness...i cannot believe someone is trying to argue why tarrie b is better than aimee echo. they are both very strong front women with splendid voices! there is no competition there. i enjoy both women and both of their past n current projects in music. to critisize aimee for not being a "metal girl" anymore is simply ignorant. aimee has said herself she enjoys singing rather than screaming aggression. everyone evolves, u cannot expect anyone from past bands to make a new band that is identical to the old. people need to move on, and see what they can accomplish next. your opinions are your opinions, but stop being so silly as to claim one singer is better than another. whats next? explaining why britney is "better" than christina? each to their own. relax and put ur agression elsewhere. the heretics are a commuinity and we dont appreciate iggnorant people looking for an argument.

-
i gotta agree - why come to a band's website and attack them? i don't get it, it's a waste of time and energy.

i object to the idea that aimee's lyrics are less valid because they are not about anger or hatred or pain. "shakedown" as an attack on alienated society (see marx, ritzer) has as much to say as, i dunno, "speak and destroy". both are valid, both have their place.

also, why is it a bad thing if someone wants to explore a different style of music? one of the greatest bands in the world was the result of one band ending and a new band being formed from the ashes and reinventing itself (joy division/new order).
kenickie
-

I know I shouldn't let this get to me but it does, this has nothing to do with tairrie or my ruin this has to do with coming on the board of a band and bashing them, what's the ponit? So you can piss off people like me? Your attacks weren't based on fact, so maybe you should get those right before you come on here accusing people of all sorts of garbage. "If i'm not mistraken AImee used to be a so called metal chick(yes?)now she is all nu-waved out and tryna do this ?" I am sorry but you ARE mistaken, aimee never said she was a metal chick.. she has never professed to be metal. so maybe you should read up on things like this before you shoot your mouth off. There was a post way back on this board that dealt with this whole thing, maybe you should read it. This topic is old. grrrr

Why the competition between theStart and My Ruin all of a sudden?!?! They sound nothing like each other - only both happen to have female vocalists... so if that is the case then why not compare them to, uh, Shania Twain and every other female that has ever sung with a band... JESUS.
Fiona
London, UK -
Ok, well um... I just think that they are both great in their own right. I mean, why are we even comparing them? Is there that many similarities other than that they are both very cool girls that front very great bands? Is it so horrible that they have grown in different directions? The choice is personal of course and no one can hold that against anyone else - but I just think that they are both damn fantastic! I think that they deserve to stand alone and apart from one another - getting all the credit they deserve - not having to be seen as scrambling for popularity. Thats just my two cents anyway, Liesey** PS - I saw an Aimee Clone too!! Although near no-one has heard of her here - this girl was at my University - same hair, clothes - the works! I've seen her a few times and now and I'm convinced - Aimee is spawning Clones! :p

Dearest Start fans, My friend loves your band and that's all well and fine but personally I prefer My Ruin. Let me tell you why. I enjoy many female singers and even female based bands(which there are few and far between) but when someone comes along(and lets remember that Tairrie B has been putting out records since um...some of you were probably still wearing your shiny safety pins firmly attached to your wet diapers)who is herself and open with her art I respect that. It takes guts to spill open your heart and talk about things that really affect you rather than how "Georgeous" someone is. I am not trying to down your personal Gwen Goddess Aimee but if there is anyone who really thinks that AImee Echo's lyrics are so much more real or inspiring than Tairrie B you must be tripping. AImee is great at what she does but it is by no menas unique or new and inventive. Isn't this the same gal that was in HWP and went tour with Tura Satana a few years ago? I remember reading a Kerrang magazine from the Uk where Aimee and Tairrie were in it together and also a review where they basically said Aimee got her whole routine from Tairrie, I don't thing Tairrie's stage performance is anything close to a routine. If you think what she is doing is acted out you must be kidding because that is about as real as it gets. Try Kittie if you want nu-metal. They are the nu-metal low budget My Ruin. Tairrie has been doing rock music for many years. I do not personally know her guitarist MIck but that guy is just about as Randy Rhoads as it gets. I have never seen him busting Korn moves or staring at the ground like every other nu- metal guitar player does. The drummer Yael can run circles around most of the male drummers in the rock world and Tairrie can do the same with half the men. I don't know much about the new guy Kenny because it was his first show so I can only say he rocked pretty damn hard but I need more time to really get into him. If you think that Miss B is a rip off then you have your head up your ass. She is very original and the clothing she handmakes is very cool along with the home videos, fanzines, jewlery, buttons and candles. I appreciated that someone would take that kind of time with the fans to be so personal and I support her all the way. My Ruin are not n a major label and don't get tours and shit handed to them like some people. They don't have the kind of money it takes to buy on certain high profile tours like some people but that's okay because I can still be a fan and support them for all the right reasons. I don't think Tairrie is always angry. She looks happier now than she ever did in the past when I saw her because she smiles and dances and has fun on stage. I think that's because of her band. She does scream loud and get violent but that's who she is also. Just because she delivers her lyrics aggressive does not mean she is just acting or always mean. If i'm not mistraken AImee used to be a so called metal chick(yes?)now she is all nu-waved out and tryna do this ? Sorry but I don't get it. I saw The Start 2 times to try and get into it with my friend cause she likes them but it didn't work for me. Talk about an act? The whole band looks a little too feminine and silly for my taste and Aimees vocals just don't cut it. Tairrie B has something to say far beyond so georgous...she talks about how women feel about thier bodies and all th shit we go through inside. She also talks about the idustry and the bullshit she has gone through. SHe also has a beautiful song dedicated to Lynn Strait called Rockstar which is so heartfelt and sincere. It is better than anything on the tribute record(except I love the System song too). I love the album title and she has explained what it means on her message board whenever some asks so maybe you should ask her yourself. I think it is far more original and interesting than um....let's see "Shakedown".Especially with what's happening in the world right now. I don'tdislike AImee personally or anything I just don't really care much. Who needs another Gwen when we can have another Patti Smith.I just wrote this massive rant because I got into a massive arguement with my friend and just like she has her opinions I have mine. My Ruin rock like god and whoever you are Omar...you shouldn't call yourself a fan one minute and make an ass of yourself the next. Lets see The Start play a show with My Ruin ....YEAH RIGHT!

I have met Tarrie. She is a sweet gal. Which goes to back up KT. Why be mad and all that hogwash? I’d like to hear something new from My Ruin. They rock yes, but that show just didn’t. I own a few of My Ruins works and some live stuff. So sorry Satan for bursting your bubble. And by the way, what is wrong with liking Ratt? Didn’t you hear what was playing right when My Ruin took the stage? Geesh. And yes I do agree with you about how they could do better without people like me at their shows. They should have more angst filled brats that will spend an arm and a leg to buy poor lip service rip offs made by yours truly Miss B. I don’t mean to be mean about all that, but it is true. I’m a fan. But I’m not the kind to kiss ass and kill over when I make eye contact with the lead singer. I’m not the type of fan to do everything my rock star tells me to do. I have a mind of my own. MyRuin is a very "aggressive" band, yes! But there are people who identify with their type of art....she vents her frustration in her music like any other musician does (and if you ever have met Tarrie, you should know she is not “mean”, she is a total doll).Don't get me wrong, I’m not trying to bash your opinion but sometimes we should be a little more careful on how we state things....everyone has a right to an opinion, but some of us do it in a nasty way!

...learn what, exactly? i'm going to actually be devil's advocate here and challenge "satan" for a minute. what can i learn from sonebody who just prances around all the time yelling about how pissed off she always is? she's ALWAYS mad. at least, what with the website and the magazine interviews and shit, she seemingly wants us to think she's always mad. no? what is every song on all those albums basically about? what am i LEARNING? i'm sorry to butt in like that but Omar even stated that he thought it was fine that other folks dug myruin; he was just stating his own opinion AS his own opinion, not as all encompassing snotty fact. I'm the one that does that. here's my opinion: "A prayer under pressure of violent anguish"...now if you asked me, not having previously known of myruin, to come up with the must hilarious album title i could think of, that would probably be it. she gets to tour the country(ies) and play rock and roll music, which is something EVERYone wants to do, but few people get to; i dont see whats weighing her down so much. there. that's MY opinion, so feel free to lampoon me for it, "satan", because i believe i have properly braced myself for your rebuttal

I know what metal is and they ain't metal. They fit under nu-metal. I grew up with real metal. I know whats up. Yes they did rock. And yes it was a good show. But they just didn't do it for me. Sure they have gotten better, but rock didn't come to mind. Good stage show. But it was all so acted out. Nothing felt real. The show lacked emotion for me. Is that a better way of saying the show sucked for ME? I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the show. I'm jelouse. I get very jelouse when I find someone enjoying something that I can't.

I just got back from the My Ruin show at the Whisky. All I have to say is "blah." I'm just glad the Start's show rocked so much that it hung over me like a beautiful umbrealla and kept me dry from the poo that feel from My Ruin's speakers. The show could of rocked, but it didn't.

I just heard that theSTART unveiled a new song at the concert Tuesday night! When do the rest of us non-californians get to hear it?! The anticipation is just too much to take!! In other news, I just recieved this information from the ACLU: "Earlier this week, President Bush issued an executive order that would allow special military tribunals to try non-citizens charged with terrorism. This action followed another Administration-issued regulation that gives the government the power to listen in on any conversation between a suspect and his attorney." It's nice to know that we are fighting the war against terrorism in order to protect the freedom that us americans so dearly love.

Saira Shah is an independant British journalist, who, at the beginning of this year, before all this 9/11 shit hit the fan, decided one day that she was going to get a crew together and go to afganistan to find the area her father was from. along the way she and her producer and camermen were arrested like four times or something; she went all over kabul, obtaining from different oppostion groups amazing camera footage exposing the taliban's atrocities to the west for more or less the first time. she went north and hooked up with Northern Alliance forces as well. her documentary, "Beneath the veil", aired on CNN one fucking week before 9/11 and about three times a day afterward for two or three weeks. since, she's gone back---and returned with a whole new piece. like i said, she defines investigative journalism. she has balls, in the utmost respect of the proverbial term.

Good evening and welcome to NBC Nightly News, I’m Tom Brokaw. Today in Washington, surprise news from the Pentagon that US Special Forces will soon be scaled back, as the next phase of Operation Enduring Freedom continues; this next phase has apparently been active for some time, but, according to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, the moment has come to disclose to the public the details of this particular undertaking. Apparently, the United States Military has now commissioned several major American conglomerates to aid the in the Psy-Ops efforts, for which Washinton has thus far recieved criticism for failing to ‘win over’ the Afghan population; “They can run from our bombs,” said Secretary Rumsfeld, “but no one can run from our greatest weapon: American consumerism!” McDonald’s, the popular American food chain, has already mobilized several of its newly established TBDU’s, or Tactical Burger Delivery Units, which are currently laying siege to the southeastern Afghan city of Ghazni. Starbucks Strategic Command has also made substantial progress, having garrisoned entire city blocks in provinces along the Pakistani border and deployed squadrons of armored coffee vendors in the mountains of central Afganistan. A crack team of Phillip-Morris demographics experts has assembled, drafting a campaign strategy aimed at getting the Afghani youth to start smoking; Congress has alotted the tobacco giants a reputedly generous amount of money for the effort. Look for the return of Joe Camel soon. Also, music artists N*Sync and Britney Spears will now begin touring the country, relentlessly pummeling the Afghani citizens with candy-pop stylings specially written by the US Army with the intention of slowly breaking down the fundamentalist Islamic resolve. Mtv has scrambled its resources, which include truckloads of platinum and gold tinged gangsta rappers, whose strategy, according to Mtv’s Kurt Loder, will be to ‘bling-bling’ the remaining Taliban soldiers to death. What exactly that process involves, Mtv officials will not openly comment. Next on NBC Nightly News, an exclusive interview with the producers of Survivor, who, in their suprise press conference earlier this afternoon, affirmed the show’s next season will be set in the region near Jalalabad, Afghanistan. Stay tuned…

No problem Kenickie, I am available to be picked on. There are certainly tracks which would go down a storm, "Nemesis" for one, but they're notoriously bad for playing new stuff by unestablished bands. It's a job for the record label really. I was stupid enough to open the door when someone knocked, and got accosted by Trick or treaters. Put it this way, If you don't please them in this area, you get a pretty wrecked house. We've been looking out the window every time someone knocks, and if it's trick or treaters, we pretend we're not in. My only question, is this being nasty? It's just if we don't have anything to give (And none of us have cash), I feel wary when a group of 5 14 year olds with a pair of horns they stole come round asking for cash.....

I saw the start once at the Hara Arena in Dayton, OH, and the thursday before at Promowest Pavillion in Columbus, OH, and may i say that they are by far one of the greatest bands to grace us with their presence. I met Aimee at family values tour the night after the promowest show and she was the sweetest person that ive ever met. Then the next nite was the dayton show and i talked to her yet again as she passed out cookies (which by the way was the funniest thing ever). For those of you who do not have their cd i strongly suggest you go out and buy it coz ive had it for a lil less than a week and i listen to it every single day. ITS THAT GOOD! So to TheStart, I LOVE YOU GUYS! You keep it real! Keep on making the same great music for time to come! PeaCE!

Land Of Oz, -
My friends, recently i stumbled upon the website of this band...their called "Otep". it took several repeat visits to this website to convince me that they arent a joke. NEVER seen anything more ridiculous in my entire life...well, my friends, i take that back; i did once see a transvestite dressed like a nun playing an accordian on 6th street, but this definitely comes in a close second. i mean...what are they? spooky voodoo-shaman? Pharao swahili mystics? what's with all these religious images and references that otherwise have nothing to do with eachother being mish-mashed together into a sort of sales-pitch? (seriously! read their bio; you'll feel like your being pitched some sort of awful b movie plot) i, being knee-deep in the usual high humor in which i often find myself, felt compelled to email them and ask them just those questions. to my suprise, i got a response that said "We're sorry you don't understand."...excuse me? are you pitying me for not buying the schtick? whoa there...thats getting a little pretentious, isnt it? but i didn't respond with that; instead i asked them if it were ever, within any possible stretch of the imagination, possible to write a song about minutemaid orange soda. because, my friends, its just no fun to limit yourself. apparently though, they're just fine with it. something tells me that simply expressing the intricacies and nuances of minutemaid orange soda is so far beyond their artistic scope of things, that it would be utterly impossible for them to even begin. i have yet to recieve a response to that email. in the mean time, i have begun to assemble the necessary vowels to write me own lyrical tribute to minutemaid orange soda; when i am through, my friends, i shall send it their way and show those narrow minds that just such a thing can be done, and further avenues should be explored all the same...

I met theSTART last night at the BackstreetBlues show on Long Island!May I just say that they are probably the nicest band I have ever meet!It was like a really small club and they were just sitting around with everyone and watching the opening bands like they were part of the crowd!First we saw Jamie sitting all the way in the back and I was way too nervous to go up and just talk to him being the huge SNOT fan that I am!Then we just sat back and watched the rest of one of the opening bands and we saw a girl walk right past us and at first I didn't notice her and then my friend said that that was aimee. So we went over and asked her if she could sign some stuff for us!Aimee is so cool! She looked real happy when I handed her a Human wASTE pROJECT cd to sign she wrote "HWP 4ever" on the sleeve! Then Jamie came over and I almost shit myself!I got my snot cd signed he wrote"Thanks!U guys rule"on my booklet. He was phat as well! Then The Rest of the band Jeff and Scott came over and they were cool as well! They played Nemesis,Glimmer Man,Melt,Hang On Me,Gorgeous,Shakedown!Great show!

Late last nite/early this morning I was flippin' through channels since I had nothing better to do with my life and I needed to fall asleep. So I put it on MTV and there was a commercial for MTV and they showed 2 seconds of "Gorgeous"... I was like,"ERRR" and pulled my weirdo face... Thought I like to share that here, but I guess I'll shut up then...

As for Andrew WK, I finally Heard "Party Hard" at rock city last night. What a pile of crap. It's Blink 182 taken to the logical extreme...what I want to know is, are you guys in the US getting all this hype too? or is it just us?

Hi... This is Mike the guitarist/keyboardist from Rasp, i dont know if you remember me, but I caught up with you guys after the show and we went to starbucks to grab a coffee. anyway I gave Jamie my band's so-called demo. I hope you enjoyed it and hope we can work something out in the future, maybe open up some shows for you. It would be an honor. You guys had a great set at CBGB's and that was the best nite of my life, being able to converse with you guys on a one on one basis was the most awesome feeling. thank you!!!! Jamie told me to keep in touch so thats what I'm doing, if it could be mutual, it would be great, so if possible write back. Thank You again!!!!!!!!!!! A True Fan, Mike

Hi i'm new to this board as I just discovered The Start. The record is great and I am looking forward to the show at the Troubadour because it shall be my first(not last i'm sure). I heard about The Start and bought the record and loved it. I am a huge My Ruin fan and heard Tairrie B simply loves Aimee. That is so cool because maybe one day they will play together. Has anyone ever heard of My Ruin? I love Jack Off Jill too but they broke up a while ago. Jessicka has a new band called Scarling. I can't wait to see them live someday. My Ruin are playing a couple of days after The Start play on the 15th at The Whisky. If you haven't seen them you should. They are very different(not poppy but more heavy and metal) but they are so fucking cool. They were all girls and one boy on guitar but the bass player Meghan has recently been replaced by a boy and this is gonna be his first show so it will be like seeing them brand new for those who haven't. Anyway I love The Start and the song Nemesis is my favorite on the record. Aimee is so cute and so is Scott!!! See you at the show!!

I didn't mean to say that the other fans were "inferior" if it came across that way.(Well, I guess that is kinda how I phrased it.) There are are some people who seem really nice over there. It just gets frustrating. Like you said, you have a wonderful community over here and I'm a fairly new fan so I don't really fit in. However I think the majority of the members on the other speak out would like to see me stoned to death. I love the band, their music, and everything they stand for so much! So it's just kind of hard.
Jennifer
-
Jennifer.... I kinda see your point. I'm not suggesting that those on the new speakout are in any way inferior fans, but I think a lot of people on there are people who saw the guys at a show, liked them, and decided to get involved, without neccessarily understanding what the band, and the community are about. In contrast, this speakout is more like a community. Quite a few of us know each other off list, so we're more......similar? I dunno. More accepting perhaps. Whatever, tehre is a definte difference between the two. I try and check the new speakout whenever I can, but this will always be home. I'm so glad they didn't drop it....
Metal Malcolm
-
I know this is mean and I know it shall come back to me but I'm prepared for reprecussions! Why is it that there are so very many intelligent people on this speak out but the new one seems to breed just the opposite? Can someone please answer this question for me because I am thoroughly confused! I made the mistake of posting a "story" over there about how MTV stifles individual thought and you'd think I was the antichrist!

and besides, cold's been one of those bands lately that people use to mix with other bands in some sort of metaphorical mish mash to try and compare with any new acts other folks might not have heard yet. when that happens, my friends, a line has been crossed, somewhere in the great, grand scheme of things.
kt
-
i felt that one too. cold went through too much of an overhaul for me on that second cd...i like em and all, but i'm kinda wearing thin on the power-ballady thing, know what i mean? the whole suicidal thing is just...well...wont these guys ever CHEER UP?
kt

Yes, and let's not forget that this is the first album that the now play NOTHING from. I won't diss people for liking Limp Bizkit, but Fred a talented musician? He doesn't even fucking play anything. Fred is talented at one thing, and that's business...

There are so many good bands around...and puddle of Mudd just seem so....dull. Cold's first album was amazing, but 13 ways is such a let down for me...oh well...I guess it can't be helped.

Have Anyone Of you listened to the Puddle Of Mudd cd other than Control. There are great songs on the cd like Blurry, and out of my head.Fred also signed another band which sounds nothing like any of the aformentioned bands they are called Kenna.AND ALL THE LB ALBUMS DON'T SOUND THE SAME!

you forgot that they don't have an ounce of talent. had i wanted, and had i known it was going to get me a video on Mtv, i probably would have pulled the following OUT OF MY ASS: "I need to feel you/you need to feel me/i can control you/you cant control me..." i mean SERIOUSLY. i first saw them through their video, which was so ridiculous i thought it was a joke; did you all see the scripted prologue to it, like setting up some kind of a fucking STORYline when the lead singers girlfriend ditches him and he walks into the room with his band and his guitarist or whatever the fuck says "Dude...Seriously...Bro..." like JEE FUCKIN WHIZ, you know what i mean? is this rock and roll now? i dont mean to be whatever about it but if thats what gets you a record deal nowadays then why arent i on fuckin TV right now?

I had never heard of the Start, but at the Incubus concert, they SO kicked ass! I was really into the music, and Echo is a bad-ass. After they finished playing, Incubus came on, and I went to buy a t-shirt. There was Echo, just standing at their table. I freaked out! I went over and asked her to sign my ticket stub. HEY GUYS I ALSO HAVE A FRIEND THAT WORKS AT A VIRGIN RECORDS IN THE GRAPEVINE MILLS MALL AND THEY WERE TOLD TO KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR ANYTHING WIERD BECAUSE TOO MANY MALLS ALL OVER AMERICA HAVE BEEN HAVING BOMB THREATS AND ONE WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE A LOT AT ONCE. ALSO, THERE WAS A WOMAN WHO HAPPENED TO BE DATING AN ARABIAN MAN WHO PICKED UP AND LEFT TOWN ONE DAY. HE LEFT HER A LETTER SAYING HE LOVED HER AND HE WAS SORRY, BUT TO BE REALLY CAREFUL ON SEPT 11 AND OCT 31! SO PEOPLE BE REALLY CAREFUL PLEASE! >>>I got important news tonight. My dad works for FEMA and he's really involved with the goings on in NYC. He told me that within the last 24 hours, more than 30 Ryder, U-Haul, and Verizon trucks have been reported stolen across the country. The U-Haul and Ryder trucks were rented and then never returned, so they're considered stolen. Many of them were rented by people of Arab descent. I don't mean to make any assumptions, and I certainly don't want to scare you, but I thought you all might like to know. Be wary of these vehicles, pay attention to them, and don't walk or park near them. He said to stay out of major public places if at all possible because recreational sites would most likely be hit on weekends. I'm sorry to cause alarm, but he told me it was OK to share this information. If you'd like to forward it to anyone you know, feel free, as there is a possibility it might save lives.<<<

I don't think anyone doesn't want Bin Laden stopped. The problem is that if it's not handled in the right way then in 10 years time you'll have a hundred of them to deal with. And I just think there are better ways to deal with it than bombing the hell out of the entire country. We're always being told in the UK about how amazing and invincible the SAS are. So why don't they just send them in? Oh, I forgot, that was all just propaganda to make us feel protected....

KT, I wondered what happened to the shirt!

Oh and everyone buy the new Therapy? album, it's amazing....

First I would like to say, I read the long email about the shirt and am disturbed on two levels. One, that a shirt could be evil. Two, that someone had come up with a method of excorsizing evil tee-shirts. Hurts the brain. Ok, no one obviously understands the meaning of the word "anarchy" It is often confused with "chaos", which is what I am seeing from the posts. All anarchy means is "without government." The world itself is an anarchical system because there is no world government. It does not mean rioting, random violence, craziness and generally wacked out things found in "chaos" So just calm down about the whole thing. I got an email from Aimee not too long ago and I think that she is really nice. I am sure she had no intention of offending anyone, she was just trying to say something. Take it for what its worth. And lastly, about the terroris.*sigh* Look, I hate war. I hate fighting and conflict and innocent people dying as much as anybody. And if I thought for one second that we were doing what we are doing out of a sense of revenge, I would condemn it. But I don't believe thats why people are out risking thier lives tonight. Let me try and illustrate. If a man breaks into your house and tells you he hates your family, shoots one of your kids and runs, what do you do? I do whatever it takes to protect my family. if I have to hunt him down, call in everyone I know...if I have to kill him to protect my family, I'd do it. Not because I enjoy killing, but because the liberty and safety of my family, my responsability, is more important than anything. I'm sure as anything am not going to sit on my thumbs and say "well, Im not going to go after him. He'll only hate me more and continue the circle of violence." HELLO! People are accusing the government of just acting in its own self interest. Well DUH! its the government's JOB to act in the best interest of the country. It is the philosophy of power because, other than the United States, who is going to act in the United States best interest? Who is going to give a flip about American vaules such as natural rights, the freedom of speech, and the privlages afforded our country? No body but us, believe it.It is the struggle for power because if you don't have it and use it, someone else will. and not likely in a happy, smiley way. In these attacks, the deaths of innocent people were accidents. I highly doubt the pilots of the F-15's were like "hey look, U.N. workers, 20 points!" *woosh**woosh* I greive for the families of those workers, more so because I lost because of the attack and I know how they feel. But I also understand the sacrifice involved in defending yourself and standing for what you believe. What if we had that attitude during the revolutionary war? "Well, I know freedom is good and all, but the red coats might start a war if we claim independance. Innocent people would die so I'd better not do anything..." Talk about hypocracy. We would be hippocrits if we didn't stand up and fight for our freedom, for the people we love and the nation which protects us. This is the same argument that came up in Korea, Vietnam and WWII. " Are you justified in taking life?" If it means preserving 10 times as many lives, the answer is "yes"! If we had supported the military we would have won Vietnam and been done a lot faster. Because of our inability to support our nation, after we pulled out tens of thousands of south Vietnameese were torchered and killed by the red army. Killed because of our ambivelence and lack of resolve. I'm done ranting now, but, for goodness sake Love your enemy but that doesn't mean hand him a gun!

Hello, my friends. For just a brief holler in the general direction of what we down here in Hays County, central Texas affectionately refer to as yall, let us take a break from all the the hullahballoo, all the floonery, all of the great grand decisive and devisive bummer of yestermonth (as we being a culture who, while possessing the highest standard of living on the face of the planet, have yet to be able to live accurately in the present tense, and thusly find all of the logic and understanding of events only in hindsight of their occurence)…whoops I’m sorry. That’s precisely what I was avoiding and look what I went and done…ah well, anyway, let me tell you all, my Friends, of the events of Tuesday, October 9, 2001. theStart finally came to town for a show at the Austin Music Hall with Incubus. Now there are two very important elements to this story, my Friends, that you must keep in mind: First, My mother. My dear, dear Mother. Ok well, me and mom do not get along very much, and, of all, music’s probably been one of those chief divides. Well, to my continuing surprise she’s had a copy of the album for a month now, and I thought it might be fun to try one of those “bonding” things out and see how it goes by taking her out to the show. As we stood in line after we first got there, I was mortified to see a man came down the rows of kids in line yelling out to everyone “you kids go get rid of your dope, no drugs, we’re on pat-downs tonight!” and seeing, well, just about every other teenager turn around to go put their drugs back in their vehicles. This kind of thing made me very nervous around my mother…because I knew a lot of those kids. And so forth the evening went, as that awkward tension was occasionally prodded at when certain things…normal things that happen at any rock and roll concert started to happen. Now, the second plotline here, my friends, involves something beyond the reaches of our collectively feeble comprehension of the universe, something beyond our so-called peripheral scope of perception, something that involves the very forces of good and evil themselves; a t-shirt. Yes! Yes I know! ‘he’s gone batty!’ you say!? Oh no! Not me! For I could bring you the testament of hundreds who had witnessed the fiery temper that garment harbored! You all, my Friends, need not know of its origin nor do you need to be aware of the circumstances by which it got into my hands; all you need to know is that it belonged to Scott. Whether he wanted it back or not, I don’t care; it was not working out too well with me. Heinous things, I tell you, of the psy-para-fantasmicological nature. I took this shirt with me to the show, hoping to somehow jostle back into place the broken cosmic plumbing of swirling karma to which I was affixed, and purvey it back to its owner. I didn’t know exactly how it was I was going to do that, but my bringing the shirt along to attempt just such an act got my mom interested. “Does that mean youre going to meet them!?”. I didn’t know how to answer this question. You see, my plan was relatively simple; I was just gonna lob the goddamn thing up onto the stage and hope they made the connection. I didn’t know how that could lead to anything beyond them maybe catching a glance at my arm. Regardless, I will have seen the band live and that shirt would be out of my life! TheStart came up onstage at the stroke of eight and broke into their set, and I must say that while the Austin Music Hall is notorious for having royally fucked up the sound quality of every body from the Deftones to Fatboy Slim, the sound itself on this particular night was great. They delivered unto an unsuspecting crowd a dose of something new, something…well, new. Droves were won over in succession by the cover they played, which while I will say was quite worthy of the original, I will not tell you what it was, because that would totally take away from all you kids who haven’t seen em yet. Unless of course, somebody’s already said so. Oh, well. I was closest to Jamie where I was standing, and debated over and over with myself all throughout their set whether or not to just hurl the damn thing up there. ‘What if they think its anthrax?’ I thought. The thought of being hauled out and pummeled for such a misunderstanding had been gnawing away at the back of my mind. So, at the end of their set Aimee says “This is going to be our last song tonight…” at which point I folded the shirt, “…and we’d like to thank Incubus again for bringing us out…” raised it into the air, cocked back my arm to pitch it, “ …like to dedicate this song to Kidneythief…” and then I froze completely and blinked a few times as they began Shakedown. ‘Did I…hear that or think it?’ I thought. I turned to the schmo next to me and tapped him on the shoulder. “What was that? What’d she just say?” I asked. “Something about her kidneys, I think,” he said. Well, hot damn. Now the dilemma was really on. During the course of the song, I decided that since they knew I was probably here, I could convince that guy over there in the merch booth that I was this “kidneythief” character she was up there talking about, and maybe he’d deliver the the shirt for me, so as to avoid any potential hysteria or rioting from heaving it up there at the band. After they walked off stage I went across the floor to where a few of my friends were, and, while they chastised me for not actually throwing it, the issue was immediately put to rest when Jeff came a strolling on out. “Hello,” I said, “I’m this ‘kidneythief’!”. I speak to Jeff about the show, and then convey to him the imperative at hand, involving the shirt. Recognizing the perilous impliccations of the occasion, he told me to wait, and that he’d be right back with Scott. A minute later, out of the corner of my eye came Jeff again, with Scott this time around, who by the way, was all smiles. The fact that he was, as I said, ‘all-smiles’, was a slight befuddlement at first seeing how the man never smiles in any of these pictures on this thing; the residual email contact I had with him for a short period consisted of sentence-long, monosyllabic messages, and the guy ends an interview with “I suck at interviews”. This all led to to believe he was not an “all-smiles” kind of guy, but hey. He had the shirt finally, telling me that I should have burned it. You all must understand, my friends, that I was mortally afraid of this thing and never would have been able to do so on my own without falling into a comatose shock-state of fear. I once tried to excise the occupant(s) myself, following Aimee’s instructions, but I think that merely angered it, as a key required ingredient for the ritual was sea salt, which I took the liberty of replacing with my own mixture of ammonia, muriatic acid and peanut butter, believing that only a potion with a bizarre enough caliber of its own to match that of the shirt itself would do the trick. I was wrong. My punishment for that particular attempt at meddling with such things was a three-week long case of blistering pink-eye, the fourth time I donned the thing. Eurythromycin be damned! I was being scolded by the forces of evil themselves! Now that it was back in Scott’s hands, he invited me to burn the shirt with him after the show. Well…sure, I said. Not long after this, Aimee and Jamie came out, and I thanked them for the dedication, at which point Aimee pointed her finger at me and said “It’s…you’re YOU!” and as I recall that at that particular moment I actually was me, so I replied “Yes…I am me,” and for a few minutes we shot air about the show. I thought around then of Mother, sitting back down by the bar in the foyer, and asked the band if they’d come and say hi. Within the next several minutes the band, my dear, dear Mother and myself were all together down in the foyer chatting about this and that. I guess an attempt at hurling the shirt, in some sort of half-assed way, did accomplish the task, for myself, and for my Mother, who had hoped such a thing would happen even though I assured her it was doubtful. After the show, I caught up with Scott on his way back from a stroll through one of the more seedy corners of this fair city, and we were off to the tour bus to commence the deed. Mother asked Scott, “Does your mom ever come out on tour with you?” to which he replied, “Uh…no…she wouldn’t be able to handle it.” We joined Aimee, Jamie, Jeff, and a nice Dreadlocked Fellow Whose Name I Have Shamefully Forgotten, and while they unfurled the shirt and dug for matches, two young pierced hooligans joined my side and asked what was going on. “Arson,” I replied unto them, “…we’re about to excorcise the evils from this garment.”… “What?” he said. I told him it was a long story, and they understood the danger involved. “Which way is north?” Aimee asked. We pointed it out to her but we were never really sure of what relevance that information took once they began to light it with matches and Bics. “Pour some Vodka on it,” said Jamie, returning from the bus with Eno. Once the fabric was effectively ignited a slow black wisp began to orbit it’s crumpled outline and the odor of burning cloth and silkscreen filled the air. As the flames began to lick at its outer portions, We all joined hands and danced in a circle around it, drawing up and out of the smoldering t-shirt the vibrations of nether-death in a glorious plume. The circle eventually dissolved and pictures were taken, documentation made of the event, by the Dreadlocked Fellow Whose Name I Have Shamefully Forgotten, and a general vapor of ease swept over the group as the feeling of having accomplished something beyond our understanding set in with us. Aimee stood staring at the crackling slogan on the sleeve, and I asked her, “Is this a moment?” and without looking up she said, “Yep…” and nodded. After a little while longer several leather-booted feet came forward to stomp out the limp char left from the burning fabric. The smell was absolutely pungent. “Hey, boy, go piss on it,” Jamie said to Eno. Indeed. And so, after nearly a year now since my reception of the shirt, the deed had been done and the forces of evil conquered. I had, finally, after a couple of years waiting, seen the band live. And for once in several years, in the span of a few hours my dear, dear mother and myself actually had a good time in eachothers’ presence; the moral of this particular tale? I do not know. It was just another one of those fun things that happen in the midst of all this craziness. Thanks very much to the band for that, it was a blast. So, my Friends, go now, back to the deluge of opinions on all this mess we could never possibly wrap our little noodly brains around, and remember to wait for those things that come along once and a while and really break that awful tedium to which we all find ourselves bound by the toes at one time or another…

Okay, I apologise in advance because i'm in a really bad mood at the moment (Personal Reasons), so i'll try and be reasonable, but I'm sorry if I offend anyone.

This whole War situation has become incredibly patronising, very arrogant, and just so fucking stupid I'm having difficulty reasoning with it. Leo, let's look at this, you blame the clinton administration. Well, personally, I thought Clinton didn't do too bad. He was an asshole, undoubtedly, but all politicians are. I find it amazing that anyone can use some of the language i've heard this week and not realise what they're saying. Firstly, the powers that be in the US will have made some serious money from this situation, and anyone can realise that if the US really cared, this would never have happened. It's very true that the Taliban government have a disgusting regime, that their treatment of women is unforgivable, and that Osama Bin Laden is a truly fanatic man. BUT THIS DID NOT SPRING UP OVERNIGHT! The US trained Bin Laden, The US have given him the capabilities he has now, the US, had they a modicum of sense, would have known he was "Evil" from the start and never trained him, but they didn't care, they just wanted the russians dealt with. The Taliban has been in power for an age, and the US has supported them financially, mainly because of their supposed anti drugs stance. And now they turn round and say these people are evil? You FUCKING HYPOCRITES! I am not saying thatOsama Bin Laden was not behind the attacks. He almost certainly was. But that's how it looked last time. And then, everyone was wrong. The courts do require a lot of proof, yes, simply so that should never happen. And as for the west not having a Brainwashing mentality, that is so far beyond naive i'm not even going to contemplate it. Anyone who has read a British Tabloid Newspaper should know what I mean. The west will drag out this situation for as long as they can, because they will make more money for the military, the governments will gain more support, and they will increase their stranglehold over the middle east in the battle for Oil etc.The west has allowed this situation to happen, and to now stand up disgusted claiming they'll wipe this "Evil" from the face of the earth is sickening. It literally brings a foul taste to my mouth.

There's an anti war meeting in hyde park, 12 noon, saturday. If anyone in the UK wants to go, i'll be there. Mail me to meet up.

Again, I repeat my question. WHAT IS A TERRORIST? WHAT IS TERRORISM? NOBODY CAN TELL ME, AND I'M GETTING REALLY PISSED OFF ABOUT IT!
