i had the most bizarre dream last night: i was sitting on a wooden bench in a faceless green park. it was very sunny and warm outside with comfortable cool breezes and a lot of bird chirping and oh cheery day. there were a lot of families and couple and other patrons, jogging picnicing and going about their sunny afternoons without a worry in the universe. i was reading a book. i looked up several times to spectate with the commonfolk a mime who had appeared out of nowhere to dance and flap and flail around and poke his finger into peoples' ears and such. he was wearing a black and white vertically striped longsleeve shirt and black highwatering trousers. he wore rainbow suspenders and a long, fat tie that had a giant exclamation point on it. he had on a beret, white face paint, red lipstick and cirlces on his cheeks, and big black suprised-looking eyebrows painted on his forhead. he was wearing white gloves. i watched him for about thirty minutes while he bounced around and did the crazy kind of shit that mimes do, and then suddenly we made eye contact and he stopped what he was doing and very melodramatically stared back at me. at this point we had everyone in the park's attention. not once changing his expression from a blank ear-to-ear grin, he danced right up to me, plugged his ear with one hand, pulled a silver .357 magnum revolver from his pocket with the other and shot himself in the foot. the book i was reading was an unabridged copy of Melvilles' Moby Dick.

HEY
1)I agree with what someoone said at one point in the long list of posted shit (no offence). England`s major exports in music are all indie bands and pop stars. I want nu-metal, rap, hardcore and punk bands from the uk to get out there to show we arent all a bunch of hearsay clones. I guess the prob must be there arent enough proper hardcore labels here for budding artists (I myself am gonna try and make a band after summer).
2) That song Gorgeous(by the start of course) suprised me first i thought Aimee Echoe`s voice would be deeper (found the site in the newest kerrang i know fuck all about the band ) but its fine. And secondly its the first kinda upbeat song that i don`t wanna kill the band for (most upbeat songs are shit).
Please reply to this with what you think about my views someone.
stay cool and chill everyone

Hey, I saw The Start in San Diego several months ago, and they were incredible. The only problem was that I was in MD when Shakedown! came out, and I couldn't find a copy!! So, I ordered online and it's as great as I expected! I also think its really awesome that this site has the "act" page. I think more bands need to take advantage of their position and call attention to issues. Keep up the great work!!!

Dean: theStart was supposed to be on the East Coast leg of the Warped Tour (but the Sugar Ray tour came up instead), so the comp was probably put together before the change.

Well, maria, it's a good thing you're a good driver and nothing happened. On Friday, I saw a car make a left lane change really sharply, and I guess he didn't judge the space between he and the car in front of him. The person ended up hitting the rear bumper of the car in front of him, forcing them both into the center divider. It was kinda burly. All the cars were smoking and turned around and crunched. It was sad.

Oh yeah, about Kerrang! If you look in the one with System Of A Down on the cover, there is a story with Goldfinger inside, and bald guy....I think he plays guitar...he is all sportin a theSTART shirt. I was like, yeaaaah!
Alex
-
i passed the first time with only one wrong. **it's the smart ones you gotta look out for** i've been a terror for almost a year now. let me tell you, last week on the way to this club in hollywood i was going 70 in the third lane then this lady in the second going 35 gets in my lane! no blinker no nothing! i slammed the brakes all the way and came that close *holds up thumb and index* to hitting her. that was stupid. so i honk and honk at her. i pull up next to her, of course my friends gives the finger. we pull in front of her and slow down to 40. then she tries to get into the left lane so i follow her, gets into the right i follow her. slowed down suddenly a few times. kept up the lane switching till she pulled to the farthest right lane. SHE BETTER NOT DO THAT AGAIN!!! personally i believe in fairness, you put your blinker on i slow down if your gonna go my speed. i stop to let people in coming out from drive ways (ya know how you always get stuck there) lalala, but don't cut ME off or other people cause i'm out there to get you!**when someone knows their car well, you better follow the rules around them**

Hey I just wanted to say I just saw the Start at a free radio show here in SLC, UT and what else can I say but it rocked. It was kinda funny/kinda sucked but half way through "Time" the blew the main breaker and lost all power so for about a half hour Aimee just sat down and shot the breeze with those of us up front. Jaime also busted out his accoustic and we all joined in a sing along of a few songs (about half of Bon Jovi's dead or alive, one of Nirvana's and the chorus to Green Day's time of your life since no one knew the actuall lyrics to it.) It was just alot of fun. Then the finally got the power up and they finished the set. Can't wait to see them again. Oh and Aimee and Scott both seemed kinda surprised to see that I and least one other person brought the HWP cd to get it signed.

Hey everybody. I finally got my Start cd, I had to order it because it didn't come into my town. It is brilliant. Thanks so much to the band for putting out such an amazing album. If anybody can direct me where I can buy a t-shirt I would love to hear. Also, a little side note. My small town in northern minnesota just got a new place for people to perform, ok it is the old high school auditorium. Anyway, Kevin Bacon's band played there tonight, and no they didn't suck, they were actually allot of fun. After the show, myself and my girlfriend waited out back for a while and got to meet him and the rest of the band. It was a great night, nothing like that has ever happened in this town. And get this, they closed with "Footloose", it was very funny considering his first big break was in the movie "Footloose" all those years ago. I think they did it to acknowledge his other career:) So now I can play 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon much easier:)

My sister and I went to your show in Los angeles. Were not the type to jump, yell or even sing to lyrics we dont know. But when we heard those amazing words come from the singer of our time, the new john lennon, we rocked out. fuck to be honest, we probably looked really stupid dancing in the aisle but we didnt give a shit, infact, we didn't even resent the fact that we were chiming in with "Heys" on shakedown and turning to everyone in the crowd getting them to join us with their little fists punching the air.
By the way,,you have the hottest band we have ever seen, while I (the big sister) am crushed out on you "echo"(even though I don't like chicks)my little mini me is completely smitten by the guitar player...Can't wait till you come back to town again..Brooke and Lizzie...hehe

alright, i messed up. i thought this was a "signature type thingy". (hmm...what should i say to all the strange faces). hi. i'm ender, i got theSTART's "shakedown" a couple of weeks ago (promo from my store), i love it, it's currently in my favorite slot at the store, along with the other things i promote, i forced my manager to listen to it. i knew if i could get her to listen to the promo that she would open one when we recieved some on the release date, success!! it's constantly being played, and i am happy whenever i work, well 1/5 of the time since we have to keep the c.d. player on spiral random. my favorite song is "dirty lion", i love how amiee says "desire oh-o-woe", makes me quiver, heehee.

I was at the dog fashion disco show a few days ago at the Irvine. The keyboard player was listening to the Start outside their bus. I had never even heard the Start before. Apparently the guy from dog fashion disco is a big fan and he burned me 3 of the Start's songs. Fucking brilliant. This band is amazing. Can't wait to get the full CD.

Thanks for the details, I shall order straight away. However, this may be of interest, a news article in Kerrang! today, with a Pic of Echo and Everything!
TheSTART, The band featuring ex-Human Waste project singer Aimee Echo, have just completed work on a promo vidoe for their debut single "Gorgeous". The clip was filmed in Los Angeles last month and was directed by Doug Friedman
"It was a really, really long day of us playing the same song over and over again in the Whiskey-A-Go-Go," Aimee tells Kerrang! "at one point I was onthis Giant Turntable doing this spinning shot and there was this 12-foot light that was behind me and it just keeled over. It fell in slow motion and it was really scary. It slid down my leg but didn't get me, thankfully."
Echo's new band sees the singer take a very different direction from her days with melodic nu-metallers Human Waste Project.
"My vocal style is the same,. but it's a lot more song oriented," says Aimee. "It's definitely got a post punk flavour. I've always been a punk rock girl. I think I was raised that way. I couldn't call it punk though because once you play more than three chords and your musicians play their instruments well I don't think that's technically punk rock anymore!"
TheSTART's debut album "Shakedown!", will be released in the UK later this year through Geffen. Sound Samples are available to download from the bands official website at www.thisisthestart.com
Not bad huh? Also in the "This issue was created with stimulation from..." section at the back, it lists " a phone call from Aimee Echo (echo,echo....)". Cheesy yes, but this raises the question...wil there be an interview next week? :oD. I'm off to rest my hands. That typing takes it out of you...

(THIS IS A REALLY LONG REVIEW...SO SIT DOWN AND READ IT EITHER WAY!...lol)
Hello Pretty Heretics
This my own review of ‘ShAkEdOwN’.
theSTART’s first record, ‘ShAkEdOwN’ was released yesterday, July 24, 2001.
(I’m sure all of us know that though, right?)
The cover art is something original. You receive a surprise when taking the cd into you hot lil
hands and see a wonderful doggie, my babe EnO.
Once you pop ‘ShAkEdOwN’ into your cd player, you don’t know what to expect from this
magnificent band. All you feel is energy arise from everywhere, this lil force field let us say.
The first song is ‘ShAkEdOwN’. This song is has catchy riffs along with startling drum beats.
Then you mix a bit of Miss Echo’s voice in there and what more could you want.
“rise up! dance to a different beat
rise up! shakedown
rise up! free your mind of what they say
rise up! shakedown
rise up! dance to a different beat
rise up! free your mind of what they say
rise up! dance to a different beat
rise up! shakedown” ~aecho
Then the cd continues with a song we all know and love, ‘GoRgEoUs’.
This song makes you feel what miss echo is saying. It makes you think of that special
someone we all have.
‘so gorgeous was the day we met
I couldn’t speak except to say how
gorgeous that I though you were to me’~aecho
‘CoMmUnIoN’ is the song that follows. This is a more melodic song. Miss Echo enchants you
with here voice. She draws you in, like puddy in here hands. Miss Echo is not out of her mind,
but we sure are as crazed fanatics.
‘i’m out of my mind
there’s no words to communicate to you
i’m out of my mind
there’s no words to communicate to you’~aecho
‘MeLt’ is the fourth song on the cd. This song is really up-beat and extremely explicit in the
way you feel for someone. This a wonderful song to declare to someone how much you
like/love them. Miss Echo is so romantic, isn’t she?
‘for one look at you
you know I pulled the stars down
from the sky
for one look at you
I would bring you every light’ ~aecho
Then comes ‘HaNg On Me’. This song is an ensperation for change, independence from that
someone. It’s super up-beat and catchy, a song we could all dance to.
‘hey hey, she said
i’m not half the man I used to be
the shoes you lent me
don’t seem to fit the same’ ~aecho
‘DiRtY LoIn’ is a song that makes you wonder it’s contents. It’s another catchy song that
draws you into it’s lyrics and music.
‘now you’re running around
in your own mess
cos you lied with the snakes
naked and so shamed
before god’~aecho
‘HeR sOnG’ is a song all girls live for. It’s a song that questions the wonders of life.
‘I could bleed does
it make me the same as her?
I could show you things
but I feel that you have
seen it all before’~aecho
Next is ‘gLiMmEr MaN’. This song makes you wonder what is it Aimee or ourselves want at
times? Catchy lyrics and up-beat music what more could you want.
‘I need a brand new glow
I need a brand new glow
I need a brand new glow’~aecho
‘KiSs It BeTtEr’ is one of those songs you could always relate yourself to.
‘there’s nothing going on here
not a thing at all
go on and call me jaded
it only makes me bitter
and that’s the way I like it
cos i’ve got mine’~aecho
‘nEmEsIs’ is a song about destiny. It makes you think why does your nemesis sometimes
screw you over, and at times it makes you happy.
‘and now upon my true love?
is this only a? tale?
the only? chance? she’ll let me wear’~aecho
‘TiMe’ is a song that makes you want to cry. This song is a song you could dedicate to anyone
you are afraid to say something to. Then at the end it’s beautiful when my babe EnO sings for
us all. EnO is such a rock star!
‘time
waiting for you
is it my secret
one I should never tell
i’ll never tell’~aecho
Sorry, for this extremely long review! This is the first time I ever do a review on a cd that is so
significant to me. If someone also would like to do a review, I encourage you to. Thanks
Katie for inspiring me to do this review. Remember be careful what you wish for.

The Start opened up for Uncle Kracker and Sugar Ray during the MGD Army Concert Tour, at Ft. Bliss, Texas. Can I just say..... "WOW!" This was the first time I've seen or heard of the band and they just blew me away! Now, I can't get enough. Being in the music business myself, it's hard to make me say "WOW!" But, again, "WOW!" Great show, man! Keep knocking my socks off!

I found this review at unearthed.com thought you guys might like to read it. I've only seen a couple of reviews so far but they've been pretty good :)
Without attitude or arrogance, and quite possibly without even knowing it, Aimee Echo has been the voice of a generation of hardworking, fearless women in rock that do not know the meaning of the word "quit". After fronting one of the most promising bands of 2000 (Human Waste Project), enduring the heartbreak of friend Lynn Strait's death, and then the untimely demise of HWP, and standing up to rumors about her relationship with former Snot drummer, Jamie Miller (who now plays guitar for theStart) - Aimee Echo and her band have wasted no time in picking up the pieces and starting anew.
One of the most poignant and respectful moments for me was seeing Aimee after hearing about the break-up of Human Waste Project. There she was, at the Roxy on Sunset, as gracious and beautiful as one woman could be, looking each one of the club goers in the eye as we exited the club, passing paper flyers from her small, pale hand to ours, and telling us about her new project. "Please come and see my new band, theStart..."
It was enough to make you internally weep. Her tiny frame, seeming frail and weary, her angular, angelic face humbled and hopeful, asking everyone to attend her next gig. She was battle ready, but she was gentle and sweet where many might have been defiant and bitter.
Seeing this project emerge triumphant and strong, with a positive feel to the material and a colorful new face has made it seem that 2001's theStart have unabashedly picked up where the Missing Persons and Kim Wilde of the 1980's left off. There are so many reminiscent sounds on these tracks that they whisk you away to the days of plastic bras, fishnet gauntlets and rubber bracelets, but the songs remain solid instead of feeble, and genuine instead of cheesy.
The new CD on the Geffen label is called Shakedown!, and it may go without saying that this collection of danceable beats and catchy lyrics will make you want to move with them. That truth is apparent when witnessing the live performances of these songs, and the crowd reaction to them. Clean, clear keyboard and synth-pop soars from the background blending well with the guitar and bass swells, and Aimee's undeniably endearing, sandpaper croon. Her voice is pure, and shattering on some tracks, and delightfully warm on others.
Right off the bat, the listener is wide-awake with the aforementioned Kim Wilde-esque chorus of the title track, and immediately bounced into first gear. Track 2 brings you into `love story mode' with the pretty but rocking, sing-song qualities of "Gorgeous", but my personal favorite is the moody feel of "Communion". The lyrics come through with some element of darkness, and perhaps secretive subject matter. "If you could take me with you/ would you be delicate with me/This is my first time communion/ I cannot breathe or speak or see." Nice, right? This song left me wishing for others more like it. Be sure to play it loud.
I also like "Melt" quite a bit, and a song called "Dirty Lion". In fact, it's difficult to choose which track is the most fun. There are plenty of goodies to indulge in on Shakedown!, and with 11 tracks to choose from, you'll want to hit the repeat button at least once or twice. Each track has potential for hit status on any radio station in the country that has a sense of taste and class.
Whether the band gets airplay with Shakedown! or not, (and let's hope they do!) from the sounds of the truly amazing songs on this CD, Aimee Echo and theStart are not returning to their humble beginnings at "square one", not at all. Instead, the band have taken the progressive approach by grabbing the industry by the horns and taking it from the top. Right where they belong!

alright kids. day has arrived. little over one year ago, on july 19th i posted here for the first time wondering why the hell the album wasn't out THEN. i'm listening to it right now and have, after much consideration in the thirty minutes since i've purchased it, decided it was well worth the wait, and i am inhaling this music right now like the breath of fresh air that i needed. i stopped posting about the album long ago, just resting assured that SOME day it would come out. thusly my posts have become more further removed from relating to the actual band themselves and moreover a braintrain expulsion everytime i came here to listen to the music on this site. and now here's the album. and they thank us in the liner notes, which to me is very considerate of them...what other band on this green earth treats their internet posting board like this one? fantastic. absolutely fantastic.

alright somebody has to try this sometime. i did it yesterday four times and had a blast, except i had to stop because i almost got arrested the last time. if you ever feel even slightly compelled to somehow make an impact on several complete strangers' lives, here's how to go about doing that: drive around until you find a good, substantially busy intersection, and time it just right you you stop, first car in line, at the light when it turns red. upon turning green, turn your car off and wait a few seconds, until about third time or so somebody honks at you, and right when you have everybody's attention, flick your hazard lights on, throw open your door and run flailing from your car as if it were about to explode. it's best when three or four people all break from the car at once, all implicating in different ways some sort of impending catastrophe, like have the front passenger plug their ears while they run, and tell the back seat folk to run low and wide with their hands over their heads. don't actually make any gestures to any other drivers or pedestrians, just RUN. observe what happens when people take notice.

Hey wassup guys and gal? I just listened to "Gorgeous" here at work, it's totally sick!! I'm Louie, from ToeFinger5. You met our guitarist Darren at WalMart today. He was all "Dude, you'll never guess what just happened here at work!!!". hehe. Very cool though. I totally love your stuff, I'm gonna' go home and listen to more of it! Darren gave you our website address and stuff, so that's cool. The songs on that are kinda' old (January 2001), but we're in the middle of recording our new 15-track CD... Just finished up drum tracks (three days! hehe.), and are starting on guitars and stuff tonight. Well, just wanted to say hi and stuff, tell ya' i think you kick ass, and I hope to catch you on tour or something! I must return back to the world of Radio Shack hehe. Latas!

My town is 4 hours north of Minneapolis and people consider Target and K-Mart "music stores", ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Does anybody know if they are selling merchandise? I would love to get a shirt to wear around town. Peace everybody, I am off to work on my music for the umpteenth hour today.

The Papa Roach post I did below wasn't meant to be an insult at all! I was pointing out how some bands are more road friendly than others. I meant nothing negative at all about them. I was simply pointing out how some bands stay on the road for so long working their CD. Coal Chamber did an amazing amount of time on the road for their first CD. I'm sorry if it came out wrong, but I was just pointing out something I noticed.

The Start is awesome! New wave all the way. I recently discovered a band called Skunk Anansie who are from Britain. They sound awesome. Funk metal! Too bad they broke up...it seems like all the best bands break up! Jack Off Jill, Human Waste Project, Tura Satana, Hole (Did they REALLY break up? "Live Through This" and "Celebrity Skin" are awesome albums), Switchblade Symphony, Skunk Anansie, Fluffy (Former band of Amanda Rootes of Harlow--from VH-1 'Bands On The Run'), L7, Nirvana (Even though Kurt Cobain was a prick who had to kill himself, dammit), Psychotica, even Black Sabbath (Ozzfest Reunion baby!)! Oh well...what can you do. I hope to hear The Start on the radio in Cincinnati soon!

Cincy, OH -
Someone mentioned Papa Roach down there (in a post below) a little bit ago...actually the remark almost was borderline insult about them touring for their CD "Infest". Anywho...did you know that Aimee Echo appears on that record? On the song "Dead Cell" she does background vocals. She sings on the song "Burgandy" on Coal Chamber's album "Chamber Music". Jack Off Jill thank The Start on the pamphlet for their album, "Clear Hearts Grey Flowers." Gee, Aimee, you've been busy! :)~

All I can say about tonight's show was wow. I left after they performed, but it SO ruled. They had a lil enter song thing, and tons of strobe lights. Anyone going to see them soon is not going to be dissapointed. Out of all the shows I have been to, prolly the best visually and best sounding. I am not gonna ruin the suprise, but they play a song that they never played at the lil shows. Awesome job, guys!

Whereas I jumped for joy. I hated the spice girls at that time. Okay, I admit, now I can see the "Ironic" potential, and yes they were half decent pop songs, but really, they've gone even worse. Geri in particular makes me feel ill.
And kt, you scare me more than ever.
Metal Malcolm
-
oh, Fiona, i remember that daay very well... i watched all the news hoping for a hoax-type of explanation, hoping that my entire universe wasn't completely shattered, but of course, it was true and i was crushed. while mention of the spice girls on this board is the first i've even thought of them in several years, i honestly don't think i ever fully recovered her leaving. you all might think this is funny, but i am very serious
kt
-
Hey! I expect the so. cali heretics to come on here and give me a detailed report of the show! I want lights, stage design and wardrobe info PLEASE!!!! ;) thanks guys!
-*-
-
KT you are the fountain of all Geri knowledge! Most impressive. Alas, the Spice Girls were never the same after her departure...
Fiona
London, UK -
ok my friends...confession time. when i was in junior high, i had a serious unrelenting bizarre and at times unhealthy obsession with the spice girls. i'm over it now, but i'll deomnstrate its severity: Geri Halliwell was born one of five children in Watford (outside London) on ausgust the sixth, 1972. Geri's mother is a cleaning lady from Spain, and her father died an unsuccessful English carsalesman when she was twenty-three. She spent time in Istanbul as a "price is right" style television show prize presenter-person, and at around that time she did her first nude modeling shots for a european page-five girl type of publication. i think this alone, as retained, applied knowledge, shows just how deep this obsession ran. i know i know, in hindsight it creeps me out, too. and you all know what? i honestly never really cared for their music.

Hmmm, well, let's see. Possibly his heightened intelligence means he is able to communicate telepathically? Or maybe just pathetically....
It just occured to me, maybe this board is being used as a meeting place for secret government agencies. It's all in Code. "Going to see Sugar Ray" means the operation will begin at 9:30, "You guys suck" must mean that night vision goggles are necessary, and "Paul Dooby" means "I am an illiterate bozo with the I.Q. of a particularly dumb table."...or maybe it's just me...
Metal Malcolm <metalmalcolm@hotmail.com>

how come all the really smart, witty, cool people like paul dooby never leave their real names and city they're in so i can put them on the guest list and hang out with them and talk about sports or how much weight we can bench, or how much we hate chicks in general, rats, another missed chance to find a pen pal. oh well.

high there, everyone. sorry the report is taking a while, it'll be up this week. cant wait to be back in la tomorrow to see all the usual beautiful faces. the odd thing is i keep seeing some of you at these different venues. i think to myself "holy shit, is that actually one of the california kids out there?" just the usual tour hallucinations, i'm affraid. now i know there shouldnt be any problems but there's something all of you need to know. these past couple of shows have been completely amazing. i didnt think it was possible but you have some competition. the crowds have been insane, which means you guys have to be the most insane. we're talking pure institutionalization here. you may be thinking that this is no small task. the problem is that you are required, as the fans from the bands' home state, to rock harder than any other city for the rest of the tour. this might be difficult because of the popularity the band is gaining in so many other states. but, if all of you are as crazy as i think you are, this shouldn't be a problem. i wanna see posters and madness and dancing and everything else that you can possibly manage from beginning to end. from the first note to the last. the show starts at 7:15 (the earliest show on the tour) and doors are probably around 6. you're gonna hafta camp out or something to beat all the rabid prepubescent sugar ray girlies. tear gas works as well. rise up, see you there.

Hey guys! Check this out!
"The Artists Against Racism Tour will be starting early this October and will consist of the following bands Tokyo Storm Warning, The Start, LeFt, Adema, and many more since there are still bands being added to the lineup. This tour will help promote the awareness of just how big of an issue racism really is. The tour will not only be nationwide but worldwide as well. Many bands in the past have helped us when it comes to benifit concerts, but never have we ever had a tour like this in the history of the Artists Against Racism Foundation (www.artistsagainstracism.org)
We're sure that this will be a great experience for everyone because the gigs will be taking place at big venues as well as small venues, colleges, and even a few highschools. This will be the biggest event of the year. "---Leslie Burkets (board member of the AAR foundation) in Up N Up Magazine

Just to let ya know I'm representing for the Heretics at my job (Forever 21, it's a trendy chick's store). There's an interview with Aimee in it (spelled AMY in the mag) and the idiot writer asked if HWP was an influence on them. And the person didn't even know Aimee was the singer of HWP! Jesus, man! Do your research before asking a dumbass question like that. It's writers like that that give me hope to be a music journalist. If I get some time I'll type it out it isn't that long.By the way, my homies going to the show (Lex, Ellen, Erika) at Univ. Amp lemme know...I wanna get a START shirt. Holy Shit! A RULE! Made me grin anyway. Somehow I cant imagine A and Bloodhound gang members doing a DJ Shadow style record, but then I couldn't imagine Therapy? covering DJ shadow until I heard it, and that ruled too..
Great comeback Jamie. Hope the tour is going well. Can't wait for the Puke Reports...Oh, and although there's nothing there yet, that's my new website above, incase any of you wanna change bookmarks or anything..

I went to your show last night at Libby Army Airfield on Fort Huachuca with Uncle Kracker and Sugar Ray. Everyone in Sierra Vista had a preconcieved notion on how you guys were going to be, and I am ashamed to say to I was one of them. But, last night you won hundreds of new fans. For it to be your first tour, it didn't seem like it. You guys but on one hell of a show. You guys were awesome! Someday soon I don't doubt you guys will be headlinning your own big tour. I would definitley go see you.
However their is also a little matter to deal with and that I am very pissed at the way my fellow Seirra Vistans treated you guys. You guys are a whole hell of a lot better than they gave you credit for. Most of them wouldn't know go music if it killed them.
You already have two new people that are going to buy you album when it's out on July 24th from last night. You guys will make it, your awesome!

I play in a band from the UK called "A". I have just got a side project together with some friends from a band called "Understand" and "Bloodhound Gang". Its called "The Lucky Nine". Its somewhere between Nation of Ulysses, Dj Shadow, Quicksand, Refused blah blah blah. You'd like it.
I would really like it if you would put some vocals to one of the songs... I'm not too keen to leave an email address so I'll figure out how to get in touch soon. Have a think about it and I'll send you a CD. Its only demos but we record in a few months... Um I'll get in touch soon.

last night, my friends, i made a phenomenal discovery that i wish to share with you all; first you will need generous portions of all of the following items: an entire bag of oreo cookies, two quarts of WHOLE dutch chocolate milk, a bag of butterscotch chips, a stick of butter, aunt jemimah's maple syrup, hershey's chocolate syrup, a few bags of almond M&M's, a fist-sized gob of peanut butter, a few colors of food-dye, a whole cylinder of pillsbury chocolate chip cookie dough, and a bag of marshmallows. Take liberal helpings of all the items listed above and place into a large bowl. Mash and churn with a spatula to a finely textured paste, then serve over waffles or pancakes. or waffles AND pancakes. but whatever you do, DO NOT use an egg-beater in the mashing process. this might very well send you hurling through to a whole other dimension.

there are rivers of cholesterol and tense thinking right now, all flowing between those tiny little cubic grains of salt that encrust these wonderful little bite-sized snacks called cheeze-its. i love them. occasionally my keyboard gets so clogged with crumbs of cheez-its, funyons, french fries, chili-cheese fritoes, soure cream and onion lays, and gobs of sticky chocolate syrup that i have to unplug the thing, take it out to the garage, and pluck every single key out one by one, and clean them all off with muriatic swimming pool cleaner. that usually does the trick. i have to scrape out the inside of the plastic console with a screwdriver and a really-nasty looking rusted file, but it really doesn't seem to do any harm. all the numbers letters have disappeared from the keys on account of the muriatic acid treatment, so i have had to reapply them in ball-point pen and marker. it seems to be working quite well though, so far. i would also like to tell you all that for the first time in eight years yeasterday i had a tall glass of whole milk. my dear, dear mother has, out of simple habit, bought skim for the latter half of my life. i don't know why, we're certainly not healthnuts or anything...but let me tell you what: if two days ago you gave me a glass of whole chocolate milk, my friends, and told me it was some sort of exotic persuasion of creamy french dessert...i, quite frankly, wouldn't have known the difference. i'm off to work now. my fingers hurt from keeping them crossed for the previous month's worth of drives there. the boss is going out of town, however, in the coming weeks...hopefully this will help with these damn involuntary pacing fits.

Hi Y'all. We've been in Texas for five days now and I am picking up an accent. The first show was a bit glitchy technical difficulty and whatnot. To be expected first show after a two month break. We were pleased. Show 2 felt very very nice and we should be just aproaching proper form. When in El Paso one must eat at La Nortena. Best Mexican food in these United States. It is hot here in TX, very hot. I have begun to question the sanity of those who dwell in these parts for putting up with the temperatures! Exceptof course KT for whom the heat is simply a propellent for his genius. (kisses to you KT darling, you brighten my days) Now we must all remember this place is like no other, realistically, perhaps in shape and form but never content. All are welcome here, all welcome. When new people arrive know that our circle is simply widening. As for the bickering of late, I say create, my friends create that's what this place is for. Without dark - no light. For now my friends goodnight. love to you all.

there is this sort of...odd, inexplicable paranoia that has
solidified within my gut. i am deathly afraid of going into work every day now. i'm doing ok, i guess...i'm not stealing, i'm not embezzling, i'm not doing drugs ON the job...i can't explain it. i can;t face my boss without getting extremely red in the face with anxiety. i pace for two hours or so every day wondering "is the sheriff going to be there waiting for me today?"...see, back when i was rather liberal with the cash drawer and didn't see the point in paying for any of the snacks or drinks we have in stock, i would get caught and the last thing said on the matter was a vague threat about havin' ole Sheriff Tovar waiting for me when i showed up he next time. my friends, i love my job, it's very important to me. but i dont know how to get rid of this irrational phobia of being arrested for erasing friends' late charges. i don't even do THAT anymore, but for some reason, this thick choking conceern will not removee itself from my stomach no matter how hard i try. one and a half hours to go............*sigh*

Jimmy Rubsam, Showstoppers Video store customer #6791, is not actually named Jimmy Rubsam, nor is his customer number really 6791:
“Well, I know you’re pretty trustworthy, but seriously man, don’t tell anybody this, ok? I’m serious now…nobody else knows about this shit…You remember when ole Dunlap’s place got jacked up for that two and a half grand and then he got shot in the head? Remember that? Yeah, well it was all bullshit. The ‘two armed robbers’? Everything you probably heard about it, the story in the papers and on the news, its all bullshit. You wanna know what really happened? You’re not gonna tell anybody are you? Yeah yeah, I know, you’re cool that way…well, here’s the real story:
“You know ole Dunlap’s owned that liquor store for like…45 fuckin years, right? Well, the old man opened the place hoping to make a fortune seeing how Hays county is dry by law, and he built it right on the county line down there on ’12. He was bettin all his money that once he opened the joint he’d tap into an unforseen demand that had gone unsupplied for however long this town’s been out here. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
“The plain fact of it is that nobody around here really drinks except for three days out of the year, and the old man ended up getting stuck with the place for the better half of this century. Yeah, well ole Dunlap had had his share of money troubles over that period of time but in the past couple of years it was all coming to a head for him. See, ole Dunlap didn’t have any family, and he had more enemies than friends on account of his constant debt, so supposedly he would resort to illegimate methods, if you know what I mean, to try and pay them all off. Gambling mostly. That shit put him in even deeper, and so he had only one choice left.
“About a year and a half ago I was doin’ some commission work painting interiors. Ole Dunlap hired me for a three week job doin’ the inside of his store. It was the first time I had any clients ever request the most hazardous kinds of paint to be applied indoors, as far as flammambility goes, but hey, you know, money is money and I didn’t ask questions.
“Over those three weeks I got to know ole Dunlap pretty well. Well, not exactly his whole personal history or anything, but I got a pretty good handle on the way he was. He drank a lot, you know. Oh yeah, the old bastard was pushing, what? Seventy-eight? Seventy-nine years old? Oh, ninety-two? He was ninety-two, really? Damn. Shit man, I missed his obituary and I turned off the news every time the story came on cause I knew it was bullshit. I just never bothered asking him. I knew he was old, but ninety-two? Jesus.
“Well, anyway, the old man didn’t have that sharp’a memory. In fact, he barely recognized me every time I showed up. I never thought anything of it, I mean all it took was a couple of seconds and he would snap out of his haze and remember who I was. We got to talkin’ right around my fourth day on or so, and he started to let me in on his situation. He had lost his liquor license fourteen years earlier but, somehow, no one ever seemed to be bothered to go out and enforce his old ass. Bookies were driving out into the bush to hassle him about once a month, and he never had enough cash to pay them all off. He had already taken out so many loans his credit history had been run right into the ground.
“Until the third week I worked on into the evening painting and talking with him, until the power got shut off. After that he could only afford to turn a few of the lights on during the day, but by twilight the store was pitch-dark inside.
“On my last day of working, ole Dunlap didn’t have ‘the cash to pay me’, so he paid me in ten free fifths of Jack Daniels. We shared the first two that night and during that he propositioned me to burn his store down. No, seriously! He offered me two and a half grand to burn his store to the fuckin’ ground. He said he was going to collect some sort of really fat insurance on the place…and I really don’t think he was planning to ever re-open the store. With that insurance money, he told me, he could pay off his all his debt, and find some place to live down in Eagle Pass or some other shit border town. He was on his way out, but I don’t think he even knew it. If he did know it, he just didn’t want the bookies or the law to get to him first.
“So I was so drunk off my ass I told him I’d do it. He said he’d give me twenty-five hundred bucks right on the spot, which I graciously accepted. It was his life-savings. He kept all this cash in his safe; the old man forgot the combination some while back so he said that if I could help him break it open I could take the two and a half large that had been stuck inside for almost as long as he’d had it, and that would be my fee for the job.
“It was a cheap model; all it took was a few good wacks with my tire iron and the thing cracked right open. He gave me the cash and told me to come back in exactly one month and set fire to the place. That’s right around when I realized why, in a spur of the moment change-of-mind on my second day, he had me start to apply the kind of paint that would burn really easily.
“I went home that night pretty mixed up about the whole thing. Exactly one month later I figured what the hell? I hadn’t seen him at all that month but I thought that was probably for the better, as far as suspicions among anybody else were concerned. I figured the best way to start the fire was with a molotv cocktail on the floor closest to the flammable-paint walls; as with the place selling liquor and all, a fire starting from just another bottle would be harder to spot with any investigation into the cause.
“I made one out of a leftover bottle of Jose Cuervo and went out to the store at about three in the morning. The door was unlocked, which I figured was a commonplace instance what with the old man living in the small house next door and all. It was pitch black inside, and when I was feeling my way around, I knocked some rack over and made a loud racket. I didn’t really think much of that. I expected the old man to be waiting for me there, to maybe help or something, but from the looks of it he was probably asleep in his house. Again, I thought that this was for the better, and would make for a truly convincing situation to the police or firefighters or…whoever showed up first.
“By the time I got to the back of the store where the walls were that had the three or four coats of the paint, I flicked on my lighter to light the cocktail and saw that the rag and fallen out somewhere. I fumbled around and flicked my lighter again, like around on the floor to see, but couldn’t find it anywhere. When I got back to the walls where I was going to set the fire, I heard a loud noise behind me, and suddenly a bright flashlight shined right into my face from like ten feet away. It was ole Dunlap, and he started yellin and screamin about me trying to steal his beer. It dawned on me right then that he didn’t have the slightest clue who I was. Before I could remind him, he pointed his big fuckin 30 ought-6 right at me and pulled the trigger. In the next second, I heard three distinct sounds.
“See anything? Fuck no. I hit the floor like a little bitch. I heard the crack of the rifle, the impact of the bullet against the wall behind me, and then a muffled plopping noise as he fell to the ground.
“His fucking bullet ricocheted off the wall, bounced right back and popped him in the head. I ran over to him and picked up the rifle. He didn’t look like he was breathing. I was so fucking scared out of my wits, right? I was so scared that I ran right out of there like a flailing schoolgirl. I drove home and the next morning I hear on the news that ole Dunlap was alive, but he was drifting in and out of a coma and not expected to last that long.
“Before he did croak a couple of days later, he ended up telling the police that two men in white t-shirts and blue jeans robbed him. See, this is how it went down: the police found my prints all over the place, and the broken safe without the cash from some weeks before when the whole thing was started. I was so shaken by the whole thing I never put his rifle down. Fuckin’ ended up taking it home, so they never found the ‘murder weapon’ and they had no fuckin clue it was his. Still have the damn thing.
“Cops think someone robbed and murdered the old man, plain and simple. I know now that over the course of that month he completely forgot about our agreement, and that his story to the police was sincere. He honestly thought I was trying to rob him. He was drunk, of course, which explains why he told the cops there were two perps dressed exactly alike; the old bastard was seeing doubles.
“There. That, man, is what really happened to ole Dunlap. Robbed? Yeah, my ass. That old bastard paid me to burn his place down, but forgot and instead accidently shot himself to death. I know it sounds crazy, but that’s really what fuckin happened, man. Craziest fuckin’ thing, man. Craziest thing that ever happened to me, anyway. Shit…now, please assure me again you won’t ever tell anybody about this…please?”
…I cannot divulge the particulars of “Jimmy Rubsam” as a customer; such details would be incriminating to him and could potentially land him into a whole heap of trouble with the Hays Co. Sheriff’s Dept. “Jimmy Rubsam” gets two free rentals every Thursday for telling me this.

Alright, I am not using a name because I don't want to get harrassed for this comment. BUT! Has anyone realized that to the people who like BSB and NSYNC, their music does have substance...it just doesn't appeal to everyone. Just like KT mentioned LB...to a lot of kids, that music does have substance, as well, it just doesn't fit everyone. But I will give KT credit because he made many good points. How about we drop this?

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but does anyone know when the album is getting a UK/European release? I asked in Tower today and they hadn't any idea...bah.

Ahem, I think kt was pleased about a possible downhill for the Backstreet Boys, not because somebody is depressed or whatever...easy, tigers. I think acceptance of the tripe that they call music is a bad thing anyhow. It's so defeatist. If more people decided to start playing or writing music that actually meant something, maybe more people would listen to them as opposed to mindless drivel...ok, I'm off on a tangent! Hehe.

Kt~ we aren't trying to pick on you but it may come off as that, i was just trying to show the diffrent views on this situiation, bsb thing. other people may ask what is so great about theSTART?...everyone is intitled to THEIR own opinion but let us not wish/hope for a brake-up of something that others love. may everyone be happy in someway-or-another.......

I hate to jump in the drama...but it seems as though KT is getting misunderstood and picked on....she wasn't saying it was a good thing that AJ or JR or JC or whoever it is has a drinking problem...she was just saying that the BSB's music is empty and has no real meaning...and as far as the music aspect of that group is concerned...the less music that they make...the better....am I right?

youre missing the POINT though. what are they making them happy WITH!?!?!? NKTOB already DID that. and the MONKEES before THEM! all i'm saying is FUCK appealing to these little kids. we've BEEN there. let's MOVE THE FUCK ON. as far as limp bizkit is concerned, theyre nothing more than a franchise now, and that has nothing to do with anything more than the direction they themselves CHOSE to take, which is, can anybody guess? ------> $$$!!! Nothing fucking more. I want to see a marilyn manson tour where it's just a big statue of David Bowie on the stage and manson walks out and dryhumps it for like an hour or so, and then that's the show. it'd be pretty much the same as if he played his own music. i dont know about tool. theyre a tough one. they havent spread themselves shamelessly open for any vh1 specials or TRL exlcusive interviews, so to me, they're doing just fine. they're selling MUSIC, not an image. there is something even harder to define. image. all i can say about image is that to me the things that are very easily discernible between good and evil lie along the motivations of a group of musicians about whether or not they want their audience to get more music or more image. he best bands have the best and most secure balance between the two. the worst sell their image on top of their music to try and stay on top of the scene. FUCK this, let's move on. i guess i'm a big picture person. i know what i say and what i put across may seem harsh and not very feasible but hey, i have high hopes. i'm not trying to force my views into anyone's face, i'm REALLY not, its just that...well...someday i dream for a moment when, simultaneously, thousands upon thousands of JUST THE RIGHT PEOPLE will come to in a sudden, jerking motion and realize 'hey. FUCK this. hey guys, let's change the world' and then they will. what can i say? i have high hopes. fuck it, yall, while i'm here typing this, i might as well apply it to theSTART and show you all why i think they are of the utmost importance. Aimee, Jamie, and Scott come from two of the bands that everyone else is now aping the shit out of, and it's really fucking annoying. These musicians were doing this shit back in the day, part of this sea of music there in LA. The ozzfest tour this year, for instance, was absolutely shameless to me. culminating since HWP's breakup, theSTART, as MUSICIANS first and foremost, have shown that they have the capacity to EVOLVE. compare all four of korns albums to eachother. i'm not saying theyre bad albums or anything, they just haven't EXPANDED...on ANYTHING. i'm looking for bands that are into doing that. EVOLVING. to me, that's REALLY important. now, can you see why music--- no, wait, why ACTS like BSB get not props from me, whatsoever?

Hey KT, plenty of fans the world over are saying the exact same thing about Limp Bizkit. They are making tons of kids happy all over. I may not like em, but I respect em for that.

i DO think about it. i do not see anything redeeming about them. before telling me the obligatory "that's just your opinion" why doesn't somebody REALLY defend them, tell me what's so good about them, what are they giving us that's so valuable, that we will remember for years? what's worth having them around, always on TV, always on the radio, making millions off of their NOTHING music?

what really bites my ass about this tour is that i wont get to see them live but there is the likelihood that their fucking bus will pass right in front of my video store. Hey puke - Sorry you feel that way, but I'm not sure which stories you're referring to. There is one article where theStart is mentioned in the headline but not covered, but that is only because we didn't get to the show in time - and that is noted in the review. -----http://www.unearthed.com/reviews/review_s_0084.shtml -----
However, there is another review where they not only are mentioned, but reviewed and photo'd... ----- http://www.unearthed.com/reviews/review_s_0079.shtml ----- so try to relax a little, all right? Next time you're running a website the size of UNEARTHED between only yourself and one other person, let me know how easy it is for ya. 'Kay guy? Give a sister a break. Here's teh link to the review I posted last night. And I'd say it's well enough in advance since the release date in JULY 24th. *shrug* Can't please everyone. But to everyone else, THANKS FOR THE PROPS! See you in the clubs.

deadlesa ~ nice article and all, but it's about fucken time. i've read every show review on unearthed.com that said it had theSTART in it and every single one was completely devoid of any mention of the band. seems like your writers have really horrible deadlines and cant catch the headliners very often. oh well, a decent article regardless.

I was lucky enough to find a promo of theSTART @ a record store for a dollar (the same place where I had previously found the absolutely untraceable HUMAN WASTE PROJECT cd). I have to say, this album is awesome! It's one of the best I've heard in years. You can sort of hear the similarities between theSTART and HUMAN WASTE PROJECT, and you can't compare the two because they are two different musical sounds. But this, as it is, is a perfect album. It's absolutely captivating from beginning to end, and as always Aimee's voice is seriously one of the most unique female voices in music today. The song-writing is on another level, and this is sure to make any person dance, sing, or feel. You have to hand it to theSTART. They know how to make great songs.

Your review was RIGHT ON POINT! i dont think it could have been written any better! and the whole kim w. comparison is PERFECT because i think aimee's presence gives off the exact same feeling as kim's "kids in america" song. and there are so many, many, many different sounds i hear in the start from souixsie to missing persons to the cure. plus more. thanks for posting this here! i think its exactly what the board, heretics and band needed to read right now!!!

Aimee and theStart: I have just completed a review of the Shakedown! disc that will be posted at UNEARTHED.COM tonight. Hope you''ll link to it, or use it in your press clippings. We love and support the band, and wish you all the very best of everything. xoxo, Lesa
HERE'S THE REVIEW: (It will be much prettier when it's posted on UnEarthed tonight.)
Without attitude or arrogance, and quite possibly without even knowing it, Aimee Echo has been the voice of a generation of hardworking, fearless women in rock that do not know the meaning of the word “quit”. After fronting one of the most promising bands of 2000 (Human Waste Project), enduring the heartbreak of friend Lynn Strait’s death, and then the untimely demise of HWP, and standing up to rumors about her relationship with former Snot guitarist, Jamie Miller – Aimee Echo and her band have wasted no time in picking up the pieces and starting anew.
One of the most poignant and respectful moments for me was seeing Aimee after hearing about the break-up Human Waste Project. There she was, at the Roxy on Sunset, as gracious and beautiful as one woman could be, looking each one of the club goers in the eye as we exited the club, passing paper flyers from her small, pale hand to ours, and telling us about her new project. “Please come and see my new band, theStart…”
It was enough to make you internally weep. Her tiny frame, seeming frail and weary, her angular, angelic face humbled and hopeful, asking everyone to attend her next gig. She was battle ready, but she was gentle and sweet where many might have been defiant and bitter.
Seeing this project emerge triumphant and strong, with a positive feel to the material and a colorful new face has made it seem that 2001’s theStart have unabashedly picked up where the Missing Persons and Kim Wilde of the 1980’s left off.
Clean, clear keyboard and synth-pop soars from the background blending well with the guitar and bass swells, and Aimee’s undeniably endearing, sandpaper croon. Her voice is pure, and shattering on some tracks, and delightfully warm on others.
Right off the bat, the listener is wide-awake with the aforementioned Kim Wilde-esque chorus of the title track, and immediately bounced into first gear. Track 2 brings you into ‘love story mode’ with the pretty but rocking, sing-song qualities of “Gorgeous”, but my personal favorite is the moody feel of “Communion”. The lyrics come through with some element of darkness, and perhaps secretive subject matter. “If you could take me with you/ would you be delicate with me/This is my first time communion/ I cannot breathe or speak or see.” Nice, right? This song left me wishing for others more like it. Be sure to play it loud.
I also like “Melt” quite a bit, and a song called “Dirty Lion”. In fact, it’s difficult to choose which track is the most fun. There are plenty of goodies to indulge in on Shakedown!, and with 11 tracks to choose from, you’ll want to hit the repeat button at least once or twice. Each track has potential for hit status on any radio station in the country that has a sense of taste and class.
Whether the band gets airplay with Shakedown! or not, (and let’s hope they do!) from the sounds of the truly amazing songs on this CD, Aimee Echo and theStart are not returning to their humble beginnings at “square one”, not at all. Instead, the band have taken the progressive approach by grabbing the industry by the horns and taking it from the top. Right where they belong!

My friends, three and a half hours ago I imbibed four grams of these fantastic amsterdam dickhead mushrooms and I have now listened to Tad’s InfraRedRidingHood album about three times over, and at this very second I am halfway through the forth; it is a very good album, and I recommend it to all of you. Tad is a Seattle band that is fronted by a chainsaw-weilding fat guy, who, coincidentally, is also known as Tad. When I see Tad the singer, I envision a fantastically enormous drunkard that dresses in flannels and sweats with a beenie stretched over his head and sits on a couch in the middle of his lawn with a six-pack in his lap and drifts in and out of euphoric states of epiphany like Buddha under the tree. This strikes me, my friends, on many different levels. I am so fascinated by this concept that these complicated, fiery conflicts develop internally. I am unable to remember just how many tangents were spurred in only the last couple of hours that have so far encompassed quite a trip, but there have been quite a few. There is so much hazy but intense thought and consideration happening right now, concerning Tad, but I have no idea where to even begin. I think I already did begin but I have no idea where I’m headed. Sometimes during these isolated seizures I grab for a whatever is nearby as quickly as possible, and try to write as much as I can; here is one of the many passages that have been written in the last hour alone, this one in Hebrew, with jalapeno mustard across the wall over the thermostat: “The amazon rainforest is being cleared to service the cattle industry for American fast food corporations such as McDonalds. The purchase of a hamburger contributes to the slaughter of thousands of endangered species, as well as the homes of the natives. The cures for common diseases among the native peoples of the Amazon are only found in their natural habitat; consequently, the only sources of medicines available to treat the natives are being destroyed. The clowns must be hanged my friends; lynch Jack and Ronald, obliderate the fast food stranglehold, and the world will be made one better.”...I cannot explain where exactly this fit into the equation with Tad and the whole bit, but it is somehow apparently one of the major internal debates that was wrought by the image and sound of Tad itself. Or himself. There are so far about three hours worth of this stuff, all lost somewhere en route in my brain, and all yielding no more or less direct connection with Tad; there are even several pages of mathematical equations that figure compounding algebraic functions that I was never consciously aware of being able to process. Some of them are downright crazy. Even more bizarre though, is that some of them even make sense! But those ones are boring. Here’s one that was not written, rather cut and pasted with letters and word fragments from magazines and Weekly World News headlines: “It has been documented that there is a widening hole in the ozone layer over Australia. This causes extreme temperatures and severe bombardment of dangerous ultra violet rays, which cause skin cancer. Australia leads internationally in the number of mellonoma cases diagnosed in coastal reagions each year. This is believed to be directly correlated to the hole in the ozone layer. In looking for a cause for the decreasing ozone, researchers discovered the likely possibility that Japan might be the culprit. Japan leads in the use of disposable Styrofoam that, when broken, releases chemicals harmful to the atmosphere into the air. The Earth’s axis tilts in such a fashion that seasonal jet streams carry high concentrations of these chemicals right down to the atmosphere above Australia, instigating the whole thing. Japanese hotel in the fall + coffee in the morning = Australian Surfer stricken with cancer…”….Now I know I am starting to lose some of you. Sit down, sit down. Let me reassess this situation; let me get my bearings goddammit. I just don’t know, people. You see, somehow, this was actually extremely relevant at the time, which I cannot really explain. Hold on my friends, I have to go to the bathroom. Alright, I’m back. It’s been about half an hour now since I typed the word ‘bathroom’, because on my way back I got distracted by something. I forgot what it was, but, according to the clock, I either spent thirty whole minutes preoccupied with it, or I was really just standing idly in front of the john for an impressive stretch of time. Either possibilty is just about as likely as the other at this point. And you all know what? I completely forgot what I was even writing about in the first place. But that’s ok, too. See, the handy thing about these Internet contraptions is that the stuff is usually still there when you come back. Oh, ok. Tad. Again, I cannot quite grasp where exactly all this nonsense fits into the grand scheme of Tad, but somehow its there (…along with 15 bar napkins covered on both sides with quotes from the English Oxford Dictionary Appendix IV B, written backwards in purple lipstick) helping to hold it all together, my friends, and keep all this from getting completely out of control. I love Tad.

Damnit I wish I still lived in Cali so I could see them at the Ampitheater, too..but what the hell can I do. I am going to be going to theSTART concert here in AZ alone, cause I don't have any friends here. But hell I'll be singing and dancing by myself and STILL be having a great time! I know it!

oh wow. it finally let me see everything new. and you know what - i agree with puke. this place used to be so different. i've been hanging around here since it started. and it's changed so much. meaningful went to meaningless. and i don't give a shit if you're going to jump on me for that. this place used to feel like a community. and now seeing as most of the oldies have disappeared. the feeling disappeared with them. life isn't full of sunshine. so why should a message board be? does it not say at the top of this that anything goes?
hypnaughtika
-
my computer hates the speakout. i can never see new messages till like a month later. blasted fucking computer. kill it! hope everyone is well. malcolm - email me sometime man! same things goes for you puke! take care. byeee.

My two cents.
There are very few things that make me laugh more than what I read on this board. Especially certain long winded posts about cannabalism and weddings. The people on this board are all fantastic. So we disagree sometimes? FANTASTIC! The important thing is we can sit and discuss it, and not resort to the school of "Yeah, well, you smell of poo" insults I see on some boards. We all rule.
Secondly, Good to see you back Jen. Hope life is good. Doing anything mid august? Only i'm having a birthday bash in london if you can make it. That goes for anyone else who thinks they can.
Thirdly. I'm having a pretty bad week. To cap it all off it looks as though my grandmother won't live to see wednesday. My mother and stepfather are leaving at 2am to get up to scotland to see her, and if there's a funeral, i'm travelling up by train, but I can't go tonight, as someone has to look after the house, and my stepfathers canaries. I don't mind so much, but I'm never gonna see her alive again. So forgive me if I don't post much for the bnext couple of weeks. Not that that changes much.
I'm off to play Hang on Me and One night in spain really fucking loud. See y'all soon.

the subject may be dead and forgotten, but i noticed that it touched more than one nerve, so i will continue ... in case anyone was unaware: this place, special as it may be, is a messageboard for a band. it's reason for being cannot be disputed. it was not created by national socialists who believe that only comments of the positive nature are to be made while visiting this messageboard. "be kind" but not be unreasonable. to say that somebody should sort out their negativity elsewhere before coming here is absolutely absurd. can you imagine how useless and boring this place would be if everybody had to be all smiles all the time? if every post was full of cheer and joy, not because the people posting are completely happy, but because we only want to read positive sounding posts? this should be a cool place away from all the usual messageboard bullshit, but it should also be a place where we feel we can speak our minds. i cant speak my mind if i'm worrying about how negative my post is going to sound. fuck that. you want to know the big difference between the speakout of now and the speakout of old? we dont talk about anything meaningful anymore. before, if somebody posted something really negative they would be talked to to see why they felt that way or at least get support from people. not "hey gloomy-guss, why dont you go rain on someone else's parade?" if somebody seemed sad they never got a simple "be happy," they got a friend if they wanted one. if somebody came up with a subject for discussion more than two people would reply. very rarely would a meaningful discussion be passed up in favor for talk of hair dye or blink 182. you can dance if you want to but you can also just fucking stand there and enjoy things at your own pace. it's time we celebrate our differences, not our similarities, and let everybody think for themselves. i believe that is much more theSTART's mantra.

This is very funny::
This is a true story about a recent wedding that took
place at Clemson University. It was a large wedding with about 300 guests. After the wedding, at the reception, the groom got up on stage at the microphone to talk to
the crowd. He said that he wanted to thank everyone for coming, many from long distances, to support them at their wedding. He especially wanted to thank the bride's and groom's families for coming and to thank his new father-in-law for providing such a fabulous reception.
To thank everyone for coming and bringing gifts and everything, he said he wanted to give everyone a special gift from just him. So taped to the bottom of everyone's chair was a manila envelope, including the wedding party. He said that this was his gift to everyone, and told everyone to open the envelopes.
Inside each manila envelope was an 8x10 picture of his best man having sex with the bride. He had gotten suspicious of the two of them and hired a private detective to trail them weeks prior to the wedding.
After he stood there and watched the people's reactions for a couple of
minutes, he turned to the best man and said, "Fuck you!". He turned to his bride and said, "F--- you!", and then he turned to the dumbfounded crowd and said, "I'm out of here."
He had the marriage annulled first thing that Monday morning. While most of us would have broken off the engagement immediately after finding out about the affair, this guy went through with it anyway, as if nothing was wrong.
His revenge:
* Making the bride's parents pay over $32,000 for 300 guests for a wedding and reception.
* Letting everyone know exactly what did happen.
* And best of all, trashing the bride's and best man's reputations in front of all of their friends and their entire families. This guy has balls the size of church bells.
Do you think we might see one of those MasterCard "Priceless" commercials out of this?
Elegant wedding for 300 family and guest...$32,000
Photographers for the wedding... $3,000
Non-refundable Deluxe Honeymoon accommodations in Maui for 2
weeks...$8,500
The look on everyone's faces after seeing a photo the Bride and Best Man having sex... Priceless
Hope you all enjoy!

i am kind of offended by the fact that the thing i said at first (in regards to keeping this a happy place) was so twisted, then two other people basically said the same thing without the thought that that was what i was saying all along.

i have completely given up on bjork. she has moved so far beyond my scope of musical perception to a level of artsiness i will never understand, and quite frankly one that i will never work up the energy to even bother to attempt...radiohead was almost at that point with me when kid a came out but amnesiac aleviated that threat.

Joan Billings, Showstoppers Video store customer #3487, studied anthropology at Columbia University in 1974: "At the end of our senior year, our professor took us on a trip to the Amazon to help him in his studies of a tribe native to the area. He would go there once a year for about, oh i dont know, a month or so every year and live with them; apparently he had been...accepted or something into the tribe's customary lifestyle. So we spent a week gathering all our equipment that we had been assigned to collect, but one of the odd things was that nobody was told to bring any sort of food supplies. i ended up asking the professor while we were actually on the flight there, and he explained to me that we would be fully immersing ourselves in tribe's environment and culture, and that includes food. 'Besides,' he told me, 'you'll like it. You're not a vegetarian or anything are you?'...i told him i wasn't and he said i'd do fine. it was three more days before the group choppered, drove, and hiked to the tribe. I mean, we're talkin seriously rural here. These people live so deep in the bush it's insane. The only contact they had with anyone outside of a few other rival tribes in the area was our professor. He brought them a lot of medicine and whiskey, so his presence was revered to the tribe as an annual coming of good fortune. This was the first time he brought anyone with him, but we were accepted right away. There was supposed to be a big feast that night to celebrate or coming to stay, and immediately we were seperated into two groups, the women and the men. all of our boys went with the professor and all the tribesman went off to cook the food, at which point i assumed was probably wild boar, on account of the indigenous animals in that region. Us girls were left with the women, to, accroding to our translator, prepare the herbs for the meats. We went along with them and picked and grinded and separated and sampled for about two or three hours, twilight, which was right around when i heard the scream. I don't know where it came from or if it was even human, but there was this long, loud shriek off in the distance that went on for like 10 minutes. We didn't say anything because the women apparently didn't seem to care. After a while we all came to the conclusion that it was singing---we'd heard tribal hymns more obnoxious before. After it stopped, there was another half hour of silence and then more screaming, but this time it was instantly recognizable as singing. Our spices were done, and we could hear the guys all shouting for us to come out, so we all filed out. I immediately smelled barbeque, and my mouth started watering. We walked through the brush to the giant lean-to where all the guys were crowded around. The boys in our group were all stripped down to their shorts, and they raised the arms and hooted along with the tribesman at the sight of us. The smell of meat was choking then, and big thick plumes of dark smoke rose from behind all the boys. They parted for us to see the fire behind them, and over it was a giant roasting spit made of sharp bamboo. The men cheered as we caught our first glimpse. Rotating slowly on the spit was a blackened sinuous crackly smoking human body. Turning the spit on the left end was my professor, with a grin from ear to ear..."...Joan Billings is a married mother of three. She's a practicing southern baptist. i dont even know where the fuck any of this came from. I was in a rotten mood furthered by the desire to see something tasteful and artistic on tv, furthered by the fact that there wasn't, and i just happened to be sitting here at the computer, out came the post. sorry. sometimes, things pop into my head and that i'd rather not have there, and a truly excellent wat to vent is to have them spread through telephone lines and satellite feeds at billionths of a second for me to feel a glint of release. sorry. sometimes, i just dont feel up to wearing a plastic smile, when mine isnt functioning properly. sorry. i don't know anything about the universe, and you all know what? i'm very comfortable with that. i never wanted to wax superiority over beliefs, i just stated mine when you brought up negativity. nothing more. i dont believe in pos/neg in the context of 'good' and 'bad', i believe in stimulation. good things come from the 'negative'. or at least it happens quite frequently with me. Calvin's dad said it builds character. he was quite close.

you don't belive in positivity and negativity? i can honestly say i have no idea how to respond to that. it sounds like saying you don't belive in gravity cause you're feeling more pushed down than pulled. positivity and negativity are fundemental elements of the universe, just look around.
oh well. i can see there's obviously no reasoning with you and what started out as a cautious concern, one shared by many, for keeping the one place we can really call our own happy is now a battle over beliefs.

kt, the fact that you let that get to you and go so far as to post it on a board with the purpose of inclusion, dancing, and happiness is very nagative.
i agree that she is skanky and david lachapelle has more talent than he's shown lately. however, it is such a small part of my life that i really don't care.
maybe in your everyday life you are not a negative person but on this board you have proven otherwise.
as so many of us said a few weeks ago, its so refreshing to finally have a place where we can leave nagativity behind and just share with people who have done the same. i only want it to be kept that way, and many people have told me the same.

to help more adequately prove my point, i'm going to recite a bill hicks piece that helped me to understand:"...Debbie Gibson had the NUMBER ONE ALBUM in this country?!? does that not make your blood FUCKING CURDLE?!?...now, i don't know if i'm just romanticizing the past, but i remember a time when music had passion, music had courage, and music had BALLS. Member that? Member Jimi Hendrix? Any question about that guy? This guy had a dick. Right now, at this point in our evolution we have at our fingertips instant conveyance and communication of the greatest thinkers of our time, but no...what's that little white girl sayin'? What's that lil Debbie Gibson sayin'? i think i'll buy her album. FUCK that. what a waste of good body organs...to think that someone could use a could liver, too...and then some of you say 'oh, she's just a little girl, she's just workin as hard as she can, she writes her own music, she's just a little girl'...NO! THEY ARE DEMONS SET LOOSE ON THE EARTH TO LOWER THAT STANDARD OF THE PERFECT AND HOLY CHILDREN OF GOD!!!"
kt

since when am i always negative? i'm sorry if my blood comes to a boil when i turn to see if perhaps they might be showing a music video somewhere, there's that little mall creature bouncing up and down wearing virtually nothing. I typically wouldn't have a problem with this, except for the FACT that her target audience are girls in the 10-14 year old range. This bothers me. This makes me feel 'negative'. Especially after all that hoopla thrown up about manson playing a denver show. N'Sync hump the floor with gyrating pelvises and then say "Dirty Pop". now, why am i being asked about negativity again? i forgot. please people. i know im not exactly a fucking ray of sunshine or anything but i feel my reasons for being horrofied and disgusted at a photographer who does nothing but perpetuate all of this horseshit are somewhat valid. And you know what else? i'll go you all one further and just say that if only you all did the same, and then everyone else beyond did too, we would cast out the false and live in the highest standard, and utopia would replace 'society' in all our vernaculars. cause you know what, my friends? i'm so goddamn tired of that word.

as we speak there is a contingent of politicians and statesmen in North Dakota who are desperately lobbying to have the "North" dropped from the state's name because it "evokes the kind of imagery that we believe misrepresents our home state"...all throughout the CNN report, clips of the film Fargo were shown, the only connection to the story being that it is set in the same town the chief lobbyist is from. The cnn anchor asked him if he enjoyed the film, where he responded "I liked it as uh a comedy but i think it helped fuel a lot of misconceptions about this area" leaving me, my friends, with the burning question: aren't there BIGGER problems out there to be committed to?

So me and my partner went over to check it out and we were the second unit on the scene; The first was waiting out in front of the apartment door for us, all shaking their heads n'shit. they said 'you're not going to fucking believe this one...go on in and see for yourselves' and my partner asked him, 'well what the fuck is it?' and he said, 'just...go on in and check it out for yourselves; we didn't even find the body yet'...so the two of them stood back while me and my partner stepped forward and opened the door. immediately there was the most awful fuckin' gust of this...you know what dead shit smells like, right? well it smelled like that ten fuckin' times over and right when we walked through the threshold into the apartment is was like...like a fucking jungle, or something...the humidity was godawful, and it was probably over one hundred degrees on there. All around the living room things were warped; the tv was still on, but just static, there was a dish of rotting food on the coffee table that was so far gone it was covered with flies and mold, and all the furniture was dilapidated and slowly losing its cohesiveness, the seat of the sofa was like only a foot off the fuckin' gorund by then...the ceiling fan, which was on, was flapping like crazy, and when we reached over and turned it off, all of the blades drooped straight downward, all warped from the moisture. We couldn't find the body in any of the rooms, but then we heard the shower running, and we were like 'oh...c'mon, not in the goddamn SHOWER' and we walked over to the bathroom door. it was locked, so my partner reared back and kicked it in. all of this thick-ass fog hit us, came all flowing out like crazy and the stench was just unbearable. Me and my partner fanned our way through to the shower. The curtain was drawn shut, so i looked over to my partner.
'i'm not fuckin' doin it!' he said, 'don't fuckin' look at me!'...so i just said fuck it and bit my lip and closed my eyes and reached out, grabbed the curtain, and pulled it to the side. I heard him turn around and fuckin vomit right there. right on the spot! so i opened my eyes, and i almost vomited right there, too: this old man, who probably wieghed about three hundred in this day, had a hard attack and fell backwards in the shower. he was a giant, rotten bloated sausage now, and various parts of his body were all different fuckin' shades of gray and green and black, and there was this fuckin' mold growth like climbin up the wall from his left thigh...we both fuckin' ran out of there like mad and got to the front of the apartment where the police and coroners were waiting. there was once ex-vice cop, this big black guy, been on the force like 25 fuckin' years, right? and he's got this little pinhead rookie with him, who's so brand-new he's carryin' around a pen and paper and writin notes! So the old man comes up to me and says, 'So, what do we got?' and i said, like the first unti before me, 'Maybe you should just go in and see this for yourself' and he nodded and grabbed the rookie and went inside. Me and my parnter turned and joked with the other unit for about thirty seconds when all of the sudden, he the rookie came runnin' out, leaning over the rail and pukin his guts out, pale as a fuckin ghost. The old cop comes stormin out of there and grabs me by the collar and says 'Son, what the FUCK you go and do that for?'...oh man...that right there was just about the worst. I really felt sorry for the coroners, though...he was so far gone that if they lifted him up his skeleton would fall out of his back..." ryan (heroelux@aol.com): so the actually removed three tracks from 'circles' & added two new one's? 'be mine', 'make it through' & 'the sin original'. i'm pretty sure the song they wrote & recorded with jay is called 'the sin original' though. it was mentioned in the old biography from www.shoutweb.com. nice, so that means they have three tracks laying around that might be released as b-sides. i didn't even know they had a finished version of 'be mine'. thanks a lot, tim.

hey all,
i was wondering if anyone on here still has the tracklist of 'thestart's record when they were gonna release it under the name 'circles' back in 2000? i know they removed at least one track: 'the sin original', which jay gordon from 'orgy' co-wrote & sang on. i have seen the tracklist back then, but i haven't been able to find it anywhere. thanks,

Hey Katie! I feel the same way...I am quite a content little bunny foo foo for being able to live where theSTART or My Ruin plays once almost every month! I am really excited about theSTART touring though so even more people can experience one of their shows...honestly, I always leave a START show with a big goofy smile on my face. I always have so much fun and I get to see so many friends and familiar faces there! The whole vibe at their shows is so positive! I love it! :D

kate...kate kate kate...i wish it were that simple. but you see, i've contracted a rare strain of the long extinct polio virus that has overcome my vaccination to it and thusly renders me incapable of doing certain things (this here is the 'rare strain' bit) such as physical multitasking; for however long it takes the disease to run its course, i will not be able to chew while walking, swallow while chewing, or even move while music is playing. nor will i be able to swim while laughing, smoke while swimming or practice my namesake hobby of organ retrieval, es-SPECIALLY while nodding. If i nod once during a procedure, i risk botching the whole thing; this, my dear friends, is a definite no no in the business. Clients tend to get a little upset when the liver they requested was dropped on the floor when handled during a polio-spasm. Livers are a particularly tricky investment, and i had three appointments for this which i had to cancel on account of my current condition. Dare i blink while typing or i might suffer a massive aneurism and die face-down on the keyboard with a big splatter of blood and brain-tissue all over the monitor. i know it sounds odd, but the proof is etchasketchable if anyone's interested. i am still on my crusade though, with helping people to overcome Finnicky Functions and resume their normal lives as proud micturators of the natural sort.

I just downloaded some tracks from "Shakedown" of Napster. I believe in Napster is it is used in the right way. If you love the music support the artist by buying it. And I was going to buy shakedown anyway but now I am even more excited. The songs are brilliant. I won't download all of them because I still want some surprises when I buy the cd. But everybody go out and buy it when it is released. This is what I have been looking for in a band for years now. It is nothing short of perfect. I love The Start, I still can't drive down to see them with Sugar Ray and Uncle Cracker (ahhhhh!) but I will drive down to see them when the are on their own or a better bill. By the way, I drove down to see Depeche Mode the other night in St. Paul and they were incredible live, one of the best shows if not the best show I have ever been to. The band was in top form and the crowd was fantastic.

puke - it isn't all that morbid. death is a weird yet fascinating thing. to go thru it is a strange experience. if you were dying and you thought about all the things you will miss all the things your life is about. you suddenly don't take life for granted anymore. like so many of us do or have. it's fucked up. i don't think any other words can describe it but those ones. it's just fucked up.

Sarah (our vocalist) had the chance to hang with Aimee recently...Sarah came back raving how wonderful it was to meet someone "that had a grip"...
I just want to support them as much as I can and I really hope that everyone takes a close listen to a beautiful record that has really made an impression on me (and made touring without my wife easier, because I listened to "Nemesis" every day for my fucking ROCK QUOTA!!!).
In short - THE START is absolutely THE SHIT ! ! !

death is certainly frightening, but just about as equally as life. a necessary "evil" in this world of duality. when i was in high school a couple of boys and a girl from a semi-neighboring school died in a car accident coming back from a rave. i had no idea who they were and, when i saw their pictures in the school news paper, i couldnt remember if i had even seen them on campus. we had a funeral thing and people made little stickers with the jersey number of one of the guys (he was on the football team) and stuck them on their cars and notebooks. i found it odd that they didnt do anything like that for the other one. he didnt play sports i guess. it made me wonder if he was somehow considered less important because of that. some people suspected they were "high on drugs" coming back from the rave and that's what caused the accident. others insisted that it was the other car's fault and even tried to reinact the turn of events using pieces of paper on a desk to signify cars on a mountain road. in a way death and birth are one in the same and, in another, one is more important. you dont remember your birth. your parents could tell you that you were born anywhere at just about any time and you'd never know better. death is the one finality in life that you will actually get the chance to experience with a (somewhat) mature mind. lots of people say that they want to die quickly or die in their sleep or die when they least expect it. for what reason, i'm not certain. all i can say is, when i die, i want to be able to experience it for everything it is. i want to know what it's like to fade into oblivion. to feel it and be completely aware that i am dying. some might call that morbid. i just think that my last life experience should be enjoyed and appreciated, since i dint get to do so with my first.

on friday at around one pm, a bright red pickup truck carrying three teenagers ran a stop sign and collided with an 87 year old woman on Ranch Road 12 in Dripping Springs. the truck flipped over several times, ejecting the two passengers 35 feet through the air before coming to a rest in the middle of the two-lane road, with the driver still in the car. The old woman wasn't hurt. the driver's head is being stitched together in intensive care and one of the thrown kids is being patched up in recovery right now. Death is an extremely tricky thing to come to grips with in a small town where you know everybody and everybody knows you. Was he a friend of mine? a lot of them ask. This, my friends, is hard to answer---how well do you know somebody you've attended school with for six years of your life, without them being a best friend of yours? Their not strangers, you see them every damn day, know their names and their lives. I knew for instance, that his parents were on the fire department and were probably called to the scene. It chills the bones, my friends, to wonder what exactly they got a chance to see before their son was air-lifted to Seaton Southwest. Every summer this happens in Dripping Springs. Last year, it was Travis Riddle and James Kendall on highway 290. Before that, Brian Vandergriff on 281. Before that, Emily Hubbard died also on Ranch Road twelve. This summer has claimed its presence among the fresh crop of bodies that occupy the walls of that school, and hopefully, this will be the last by the time i graduate. Matthew Stephenson, 83-01.

Funny, no one else is laughin...anyway, Katie must be new cause she would be VERY suprised if she found how many of us are Destney's Child fans. Anywho, I am not a fan of Blink 182 or anything, and I wont be going to that sighing, but I say anyone who can go should, cause if you do get something signed, that's a birthday present for someone that you don't need to worry about. Or is you are ever in a tight squeeze, put it on EBay. Anyway, anyone been to any good shows lately? Other than the video shoot?

i figure the video should be out relatively soon, considering the way marketing is done in the music business. singles are usually released long before the cd, then a video comes before or very near after the cd is released. its coming out on the 24th, so it should be soon (i hope!!!).
videos dont take that long to edit, either.

I didn't go cause my ride flaked out on me..listen to this drama...i found out 3rd period that she wasn't taking us, so we attepmpted to find another ride. Her 22-yr old brother said he'd take us. His baby girl was in the backseat. She was sick and screaming her head off, throwing up and crap.So there we are, about halfway to LA, and all of us are going crazy from this child's incessant screaming. She starts throwing up a mixture of Pedialyte and mucus (and was choking on it also), and we had no choice but to turn back. There. Demon child. But hey I finally picked up those pics from the Chain show and they came out really good. I'll scan them in soon. Oh, and the article I wrote was printed. I'll scan that in too. Peace.

(6/13/01…1:14 AM)
They call it Finnicky Functions…the street name for some odd urban mythical STD that causes the contracting muscles, those which control unrinary flow, to violently seize up, and the bladder swells up to a point where all of the pressure on the inside of the body is focused on one area, mostly in swells in the abdomen and groin (seething across the thighs) causing the legs to shake and writhe spastically to try and alter the direction of the sharp pains prying upward from the lower gut, until, in a final and ultimately climactic display of this ironically efficient facet of nature, the body bursts gloriously open with one ruckus of a wet pop, and the intestines go flying into the air like brilliant sphinctered party streamers, plopping about all over the place; this occurs mostly in public restrooms, within the privacy of stalls. In this particular event, the mess is typically contained within the stall and on the ceiling directly above it, but, as it has been recently documented, the ceiling residue usually falls down on its own, or drips, as the chemicals in human stomach acids and blood do not really form useful adhesives. Clean up with a full custodial staff is usually around forty-seven minutes. Sodium Hydrochloride is definitely recommended with any restroom case, as bodily fluids can indeed cause permanent stains on the grout between the tiles on the floor and walls behind the toilet. In the event of a urinal-related incident, the afflicted is usually hunched over the urinal itself during the rupture, defensively shielding their painful disease from the other patrons of the urinal wall. When this rupture occurs there are usually several more surfaces to clean than there would be had it happened in a stall, and there are several other cleaning products and detergents that are also required to handle such instances. I myself was once afflicted with this rare disorder, which sat dormant in my body for several years since my days in Venice frequenting the canal-side cathouses. I myself was also once faced with the imminent and inevitable explosion that would claim me in some dank yellow-lit public restroom some night. But I’ll tell you this, for I know that there are also some of you out there who have also been afflicted with this mysterious and utterly dreadful condition, and I know that you too are searching for a cure, but I have come to end that quest for you all for I have found the cure! I have discovered the very process by which to attain your old lifestyle, and also to maybe, someday possibly drink fluids again! Are you tired of timing exercise and your metabolic rate to coincide with rigorous injections of saline and chemically enriched fluid into your veins to avoid ever having to naturally imbibe and pass liquids? Do you want that old rush again when you hear your perfectly unique resonation against those impeding walls, your own true splash and rhythm clashing against the impurities of guilt and sin? Contact me, my friends, for I can make those wishes come true with my easy and low cost program! You too will join the many whom I have helped to overcome this illness and together we can stand up with pride as survivors, and most importantly, victors……………………….kt

in the down time between takes the band would play little ditties. some their own and some from other bands. on top of playing a few snot riffs jamie also started playing electra. the whole crowd (well, everyone who knew the words, which was a good majority) began to sing the words. aimee chimed in and then scott got behind the drums and i did the lead guitar parts. not on a guitar or anything, though. after it was over aimee asked if we'd like to see a reunion and the place just exploded. she responded "okay, i'll talk to the guys," and that was that. keep your fingers crossed!

How are all the heretics doing after such a hot, sweaty, exciting, and all around kick ass time?!! I just wanted to say much thanks to the band who continuously go out of their way for all the fans. My friend is doing fine, she was the little star of the evenning. Just like in that live Deftones song "Bored,"when Chino stopped in the middle of the song for... Many moons ago I was living in a dingy 20 x 20 rehearsal room in downtown LA. One night while I was returning from my cowboy shower (from a sink in the rest room) I heard an Angel's voice echoing in the hallways. I followed the voice & it led me to Human Waste Project. I stood on the other side of the door & quietly listened. It was warm & comforting... I sighed & thought to myself... "there is hope in the land of Addias Rock... this will be huge." Fast forward to 1999 & I'm in a recording studio (same facility) tracking songs with this Wannabe-Producer-Studio-Hustler. After hours of arguing we took a break, he turns me on to a demo that he's been working on - HERO. I can't begin to describe the chills that I received the moment I heard that long lost Angels voice - the music swirled around my head, so pure, so sweat... sonic ecstasy. Time flies people come & go - music changes. 2001 & I find myself playing hooky from the daily riggers waiting in front of the Whiskey, with people that have also been touched by the sounds. Invited to take part in the creation of the "Gorgeous" chronicle. What a beautiful day it was for me... knowing that I don't have to shower out of a sink anymore... knowing that I was there at TheStart... knowing that soon the whole world will share in the joy that we've all experienced. It's time... this will be huge. Amor y Pas...

theSTART video shoot was soo much fun! I don't think we actually got in until 5:30 or something..and then it wasn't over until almost 10. Here are definitely some of the night's highlights.....1. The Voice of GOD....2. Jaimie's shirt, aimee's dress, jeff's tattoo, and scott just being himself....3. SCHWEATY (ha that sums up the whole night there)...4. A little HWP...that was really nice.. :) 5. The magical blow dryer....6. Seeing ENO...OH and 7. When I asked that guy if I could have the glass Aimee wrote on and he said "You really want it?" and I was like, "UH yeah" and then he said, "oh well sorry..you can't have it." and then just walked away...hmm um did someone say asshole? ....heh but anyways.......It was an AMAZING night...yay! I give a big thank you to theSTART..I can't wait until the video comes out!

Well.. I haven't been here for a couple months now... how are you people doing?? ... Anyways, I found a little comp. for 6.99 @ target with theSTART up on it.. the song "gorgeous". It sounds quite different than the demo version, but still very good. I've also saw an article about theStart show @ the galaxy that happened a long ass time ago.. the guy had the nerve to mock theSTART and Aimee. So send hate mail to SKRATCH Magazine(just add .com for website)// Anyways, you people take care and I'll try and go to the next srtart show in my area... the key word is try.. Alright, I went to the video shoot today.....but, it is 7:53 right now. Now, to the best of my knowledge, the video shoot is still going on. I got to the Whisky at about 1:45, and we got to watch Aimee spray painting theSTART logo onto a big piece of paper. Now, after that, we were told to wait outside. We waited out there till about 5, and then I had to take off. Maybe some of the others who waited around for the whole thing would have a better review of what actually happened, but I was sad because I thought we would have been done by 6. Anywho, the stage looked awesome, but I didn't even get to see em perform! :(

I will walk with shoes of solid rubidium with laces of incandescently lit silk. i trust i might wear my very special pants, the one of a kind pair of which i am so fond, the highwatering leather trousers i hand stitched, harvested from the thick pink hides of the rival clans we down here in Texas have been raised to cannibalize on sight.
Infra-Red contact lenses, Ultra-violet hair-dye, and i will be all set. As you might have guessed i will be attending solely in spirit, not in body...

Indeed, dude. That was NICE. Remember when John from SOAD was hitting on me at the Whisky? Come to think of it, that was a START show. Nice. Well, you and I are jaded Californians now so we don't get all crazy like we used to when we saw bands and rockstars. We're used to it. LOL.Although I almost swooned when I met Chino. I was cool, though. That was embarassing when I left the lens cap on the camera when I was taking a pic of him and Vince and Chino pointed it out. Dummy. (me I mean). Guys, wanna hear something cool? Alright we have a substitute in my government class. He was taking attendance and when he got to name he said "Chris..rockstar." Buddy's only been here like 3 days and he realizes this?? I felt very cool, and yes, rockstarish. HEY IT MADE MY DAY ALRIGHT??? haha. And yeah, I am wondering how the hell did I get picked for the Elite sector. Maybe my rad article had something to do with it? Who knows?

I just learned of The Start and I can't wait. I still listen to Human Waste Project all the time but have been wanting to hear more of the amazing Aimee Echo's voice very much. The dance aspect to there new music is fantastic and so is the entire vibe they appear to be going for. With everything falling into place so great for something to make me excited I just can't believe the tour. I wish the band all the best in the future, we need more great bands but Sugar Ray? Sorry, I just couldn't handle it. I have respect for so much music on so many levels listening to stuff like Portishead and Curve to 80's New wave and Pop like The Cars and Stacey Q.. But Sugar Ray is one of those bands I just can't have any level of respect for, they hit it big with Fly and have recorded cheesy pop songs every since. I don't really understand what happened to artistic integrity, or I should really say art in general. Every time I see them on TV I just get this terrible bad feeling that makes me want to scream and cry, kind of like when I see an N'Sync video. If I lived close to Minneapolis I would go just for The Start but I live 4 hours away, so I hope to catch them playing a gig at First Avenue or The Quest Club, that would be worth the four hours, gas and food. Ahhh, I can't wait. Much love and respect to everyone. I have to go work on my own music now, just me, my JP-8000, Modtracker and my computer. BYE!

Chris <FluxDiablo@aol.com>

Hey guys..here's the TENTATIVE article. If there are any facts that I was misinformed upon please tell me..thanks guys..tell me what u think theSTARTjust wanna make you dance by Chris Guerra Staff Writer-El Modena Frontline Some bands want to make you mosh. Some bands want to make you cry. Some bands want to make you scream. theSTART want to make you dance. "Dance if you want to," is their motto. And trust me, after hearing this incredible band, you'll want to. Their sound is like no other. "We're music from the future," guitarist Jamie Miller told Loudside.com. It blends the pop sensibilities of The Cure with the dark melodies of Depeche Mode, with a dash of Nine Inch Nails' and Orgy's technical wizardy added to the mix. And don't forget their upbeat sassiness, courtesy of Siouxie and the Banshees and No Doubt. As for the songs, they're catchy as hell. Once you hear the aptly titled "Gorgeous", it'll be in your head for days. The punk-flavored "Shakedown" and the sweet candy that is "Glimmerman" will have you addicted to theSTART in no time. Gorgeous singer Aimee Echo enchants you with her shimmering vocals that invite you to spin around in a blissful trance, while axeman Jamie Miller coaxes flirtatious melodies out of his guitar and into your ears. The rhythm section is solid and precise. Jeff Jaeger's bass makes you jump up and down with tuneful grooves that mesmerize you for days and drummer Scott Ellis skillfully punctuates each song with fast-paced beats and fills. They do this all with incredible showmanship and are remarkably humble and easygoing, prompting dedicated fans like Ellen Pham to remark,"I love theSTART's music because the minute I hear it, it just makes me want to get up, dance and have a good time. It's a rarity for music today to make you do that." theSTART may be considered by most to be newbies in the music scene, but actually, they're seasoned veterans. Echo and Ellis were in Human Waste Project, a devastatingly good heavy rock band that toured with the likes of Deftones and Korn, before breaking up in early 1998. Miller played drums for influential band Snot. theSTART formed in 3 years ago (under the original name of Hero) from the ashes of these bands and have been going strong ever since. They've played many respected venues including the Whisky, Roxy, and Troubadour in Los Angeles, Pound in San Francisco and of course, our very own Chain Reaction. Not to mention, they've also opened for Orgy, Cold, Videodrone, and strangely enough, Goldfinger. Where can you hear theSTART? For now, you can download a few songs off of their official website (www.thisisthestart.com) or Napster. And of course, their highly anticipated debut album, SHAKEDOWN! rumbles into stores July 24th. They're taking to the road this summer with Sugar Ray. Be there and see the force that is theSTART. theSTART w/ Sugar Ray and Uncle Kracker--Wednesday July 18th at Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles and Thursday, July 19th at Open Air Theater/Navy Pier in San Diego.

Hey guys...I'm just about done with my article on theSTART but I need just a few background details. When did HWP break up? I'm under the impression that it's 98 but I just wanna make sure. Also, what bands have theSTART played with that are a little recognizable? Remember, this article is going to your typical moronic high schooler. I've got Cold, Videodrone, Orgy, Simon Says and Goldfinger. One more thing, sweeties...did HWP ever tour with Korn? I know that they did that song but I'm not sure if they toured. Pardon me if these questions seem idiotic, but I'm just doing my journalistic duty of making sure my facts are straight. Kisses. ps. I need this by tonight. email me or post ASAP.thanks :)
